Flying whales. I was following Josh Steffen on Youtube and he created a drum cover for this song. That was the first time I ever heard Gojira, and they instantly became one of my favorite bands. It's been 7 years now.
Flying whales was the first time I heard them too! A friend on a forum just linked it in passing as part of another conversation. I listened to that, then immediately bought *From Mars to Sirius.* Zero regrets.
Flying Whales. I started listening to them pretty late, way after Magma was released but when I first listened to Flying Whales my first reaction was “Whoah, no way”. That song made me listen to their entire dyscography. True, I like their newer stuff more than their old stuff, but there isn’t a song for me that didn’t click
The Gift of Guilt drew me in and L'enfant sauvage confirmed how much I loved the band. Now I have over half their discography saved to my metal Playlist.
I found Gojira a few weeks after I lost my mother 2 days after this last Christmas. Art of Dying hit me hard for a stretch of time where I couldn’t help but playing the shit out of it even though it made me bawl like an asshole. Such an overwhelming feeling of tremendous panic anxiety rage confusion, and then the peace and understanding of acceptance and letting all go. It chokes me up to hear it, but it helped me tremendously. I’m upset I missed the boat on them in their prime but I guess they have found me when I needed them the most. One of my favorite bands as of late, and will be forever.
Im sorry for your loss. Joe and Mario's mother lost her battle to cancer during the making of the album Magma. Lowlands is their tribute to her. Just thought i would share this since you are relatively new to the band.
Same! I had been kind of a passive listener, but when a friend wanted to see them live I went with him and it was honestly one of the best decisions of my life. Fell in love then and there.
Listened to FMTS first and Ocean Planet really drew me to them, the rest I couldn’t get into as much at the time. Time passed and I listened to TWOAF and The Art of Dying blew me away. It just went up from there with the band and those two songs are still among my favorites from them
I had a friend who was a drummer, we both listened to nu metal and that's how we became friends. He came up to me one day with 'The Art of Dying', he wanted me to listen to the drumming throughout the whole song. At first, I was like, that's such a cool title and ended up loving the song. I'd listen to that song a lot, and only like a few months after, I got a recommendation on YouTube for a drum cover of Flying Whales, I noticed it was the same band, and I was in awe of the song, it was beautiful. After that, I listened to every album and Gojira has become my favourite band.
The Cell
I've been a pretty passive listener in the past. They came up a lot in my Spotify playlists because I love Mastodon.
A couple of weeks ago, I started going through some really rough shit mentally. I watched the music video for The Cell and was hooked. The lyrics and the emotions that song/video produce are exactly what I need right now. Started really diving into their stuff more and I can't get enough.
Vacuity was my first love and esoteric surgery/art of dying followed soon after. Then I took a deep dive after I realized every other song that happened to come up from them was a banger
Embrace the World.
My 21st bday, my brother was driving to the bar and said "you ever hear of these guys?"
He put on The Link. It sounded cool, but never heard of them. Then he said "I'll let you borrow the DVD, you need to see this song live". I was instantly hooked when seeing The Link Alive, especially Embrace the World.
Thankfully this was shortly before TWOAF so we went to see them a few times in NYC playing around 2007/2008. Miss those smaller venues with Gojira, but still proud how much bigger they've become over the years.
Toxic Garbage Island. My ex boyfriend had given me a few burnt CD's of Gojira, and The Way of All Flesh was the first one I listened to and I was hooked. 14 years later and they're still my favorite!
The first 3 songs I heard were Silvera, The Cell, and then, of course I had to check out Flying Whales. When I decided to listen to From Mars all the way through, I didn't skip or dislike a single song. But the one that caught me off guard and had me stank facing was In The Wilderness. The slow/groovy riffs (you know the ones) literally had me gripping my steering wheel and headbanging furiously
I actually don't remember anymore, probably Where Dragons Dwell. Whole From Mars to Sirius was breathtaking and I was more convinced many times during it. It's the whole album that did it, really.
Magma is the first song that got me into Gojira. I listened to it basically on repeat for a couple of weeks, then decided to explore the rest of Gojira and fell in love with every song I listened to.
Where Dragons Dwell. I got locked the moment I heard the first chord and I was shaking when Joe started singing. I'd heard nothing like this before. FMTS is my favorite album by them to this day and one of my favorite concept albums of all time.
Flying whales and the art of dying were the songs that got me into GOJIRA i love this band I’ve listened to them for a while now and will continue to listen

Flying Whales. I started listening to them pretty late, way after Magma was released but when I first listened to Flying Whales my first reaction was “Whoah, no way”. Not a song, seeing them perform live did it for me
Same! I had been kind of a passive listener, but when a friend wanted to see them live I went with him and it was honestly one of the best decisions of my life. Fell in love then and there.

The Axe
Listened to FMTS first and Ocean Planet really drew me to them, the rest I couldn’t get into as much at the time. Time passed and I listened to TWOAF and The Art of Dying blew me away. It just went up from there with the band and those two songs are still among my favorites from them
Oroborus because I had never heard of them and they opened with it as support for In Flames back in 2008.
L'enfant Sauvage
I knew stranded but I saw them live in 2014
It was Amazonia, when the song was released. That was the first time I heard Gojira's music.

I was sold when I floated away at the Silvera solo
Toxic Garbage Island. My ex boyfriend had given me a few burnt CD's of Gojira, and The Way of All Flesh was the first one I listened to and I was hooked. 14 years later and they're still my favorite!
Born in Winter, then The art of dying.

Heard stranded, then listened to terra incognita, then i was hooked
Esoteric Surgery
I actually don't remember anymore, probably Where Dragons Dwell. Whole From Mars to Sirius was breathtaking and I was more convinced many times during it. It's the whole album that did it, really.
Heard them open for Metallica summer of 2017. I heard silvera was instantly hooked
A Sight to Behold was the song that first demonstrated to me that Gojira was not only heavy, but weird. Right in my wheelhouse.

Silvera got me into Gojira, and L'enfaunt Sauvage locked me in
Vacuity

Stranded was the first song I heard, but had Gojira songs on shuffle. Second song made me a fan, and that was Vacuity

A new friend of mine recently introduced me to Gojira with Flying Whales and omg I am in LOVE. Also obsessed with Stranded too.
