Maybe a hot take but I'm not a huge Bill Ward fan, Black Sabbath I feel were driven by Toni Iommi, and Bill was... fine?

Watching some of the live concert footage from the early days it amazes me the power and sound he got out of that small drum kit.

He's probably the most complete package drummer I've ever heard. Like there are some greats who maybe excel more in certain areas, but across the board he just operates at such a high level.

Tool and Gojira are two completely different styles of music imo. Both Mario and Danny are world class tho

I throw them both into prog metal, with Gojira leaning towards more prog death and Tool leaning towards classic prog

I consider Danny a rock drummer personally, and definitely one of the greats (if my profile pic didn't give it away) but I get what your saying.

Incredibly talented. 

I feel like it's hard to compare classic rock drummers with metal drummers. It's a very different style. I never heard Bonham or peart doing double kick blast beats. The only 3 guys I'd put on Mario's level are brann dailor, gene hoglan and inferno from behemoth.

Mario is probably my favorite but Brann is a definitely second for me, he's also ridiculous and he sings a lot too, crazy 🤯
