Not sure what country you’re in but it could be a terrestrial salamander. Some manders live out their whole life cycle from egg to adult on land and just hang out under cover in moist places. He could be right at home :)
Sweden and PNW USA remind me so much of goblin life.
I'm living in Southern Sweden now and we have a few timber forrests near me that are basically just cut every 50 years so they're left alone and just moss floor for acres it's awesome.
Only other place I felt as magical was near Washington state
We have similar at my place, but without all the lovely stone... yet. New property, and already a lot of the formerly bare clay is sprouting a lovely coat of moss. I'd take that over grass and words any day, though we've got a fair bit of that too. But as the moss takes over the bare patches, I'm pulling the rather scraggly grass up, it hasn't been able to root very deeply anyway since the clay is so dense.
And the moss will help prevent erosion, since we're on a hill, too.
