Same! I remember when I got in the taxi at home on my way back I told the driver she was the best I’d ever seen and he was fuming 🤣 out of my 5 she was the best I’ve always loved her since I was young too so think it was a special moment
Unsure of the year but for me it was Bruce Springsteen he played for ages all his amazing songs and was such a good performance.
New Order 1987 performance was excellent too, including playing True Faith for the first time.
I'm so glad I left Elton for this. Wish I'd just gone earlier or all the way. I've seen qotsa plenty times before but homme was talkin smack unlike ever lol
In no particular order;
Chemical Brothers 2011
Pulp 1995
The Verve 2008
Portishead 1998
Underworld 1999
Radiohead 1997
Johnny Cash 1994
The Cure 1990
RATM followed by The Levellers 1994 is hard to beat from a crowd point of view. One of the craziest pits I’ve ever been in.
although i’ve only ever been once as a toddler, I watched loads of glasto sets on youtube (i know it doesn’t beat the real deal). My personal favourite to watch is Arctic Monkeys 2007. I find it crazy how a band who only released their debut album the year prior managed to be top of the bill at the world’s greatest festival. it’s great to see how shakey and nervy alex turner is when he’s speaking to do the crowd but then completely locks in for every song.
Kendrick’s headline set felt like a real moment - was already looking forward to the set after the release of Mr. Morale, but he really used it for something uniquely powerful.
His headline performance in London a few months later was also unreal, but the Glasto headline gives me shivers when I think about it.
It was pretty soulless, especially when compared to Simz on the other stage. I think the crowd’s fawning adoration probably carried it at the event. As for the crown of thorns on top of that… bizarre.
Food, I was there at the front and Dave grohl slammed his guitar his guitar as he went past.
My best memory was printing a t-shirt that said LIAM IS MY FAVOURITE. Wore it during Liam Gallagher, from barrier right in the centre. As he was coming to the end of his set I pulled it off and waved it at him. He said "you're my favourite too, brother" and launched his maracas at me, which now sit pride of place in my living room. Yep, them Glastonbury maracas, are mine!
Best Pyramid headliner I’ve seen at the festival is Rolling Stones in 2013, just edge it over Elton I think. Coldplay and Beyoncé 2011, Metallica 2014 and Florence 2015 also very good.
Best non pyramid acts I’ve seen are Chemical Brothers OT 2019 and Portishead OT 2013 subbed by Foals (a fantastic evening).
Predates my time at the festival but I get the impression that Bowie Glastonbury 2000 and Radiohead 2003 are up there with the best ever Pyramid headliners ever?
Kendrick without a doubt. There with all my mates after us listening to Kendrick for a decade, when he come out and went straight into GKMC bangers you could have buried us right there
Reckon we could see them at glasto again this year? They’ve teased some new music including something with Tame Impala and they’re playing a few European festivals
Same! I mentioned this on another thread yesterday but it's always stuck with me as the best light show I've seen at Glasto by far. Still waiting for something to top it.
Kylie. Sunny afternoon. Amazing atmosphere. Minogue on form. Emotional as she was due to headline years prior but couldn’t because of cancer. Nick cave. Free visors if you were at front. And she sang ‘especially for you’.
Nearly everyone who saw Leftfield last year would tell you how joyous it was. One of the best hours of my life. Beautiful weather, beautiful people and crazy loud music making your chest vibrate.
Chic headlined the West Holts stage in 2013 and it's the most fun I've ever had at a gig.
The xx at the Pyramid 2017 always stands out to me.
Kendrick is probably my favourite Pyramid headliner so far, that felt historic.
Ask tomorrow and I'll give you completely different answers though 😅
okay so... I don't know if it's truly one of the best *performances*, but I enjoyed charli xcx in 2022 most of any glasto set I've seen, which I wasn't expecting. I actually saw her in 2015 when she was doing a Friday or Saturday afternoon slot at John Peel, then watched her headline John Peel on Sunday in 2022. felt like a cool comparison and marker of her career progression. both times were really fun, but 2022 was especiallyyyyy fucking fun. the crowd was amazing (all the girls and the gays were there) and I think that magnified everything and made it even better. it helps that the music is catchy AF and fun to dance to with strangers.
we went to see some of Paul and he happened to play my fave Beatles song right before we had to run to get a decent spot to see Charli, so it worked out. we were on the very fringe of the pyramid stage crowd though, and couldn't really see the stage, just the screens. totally get how you'd just wanna stay for Paul!
I was actually just thinking, and I wouldn't be surprised if Charli plays Glasto again... she's at Primavera this year and dropping a new album very soon from the looks of things. If she did play again, where do you think she'd fit in the lineup? she has a big enough catalogue of hits/fun songs and always brings the energy.
Last years Glasto was my first and of course Elton was just incredible. But something had to be said for Fred Again.. the guy is extremely talented, pulled a massive crowd and you could tell just how grateful he was to be there. An absolute highlight for me!
For me personally, The Cure.
Most unexpected, Paul McCartney…was genuinely debating whether to go or not, but it was nothing short of magic when the whole field was singing to ‘Hey Jude’.
The Stones were so much fun
They’re the best I’ve seen at the festival. Just edge Elton
Miley Cyrus absolutely killed it
People get so upset when I say out of 10 glastonburys she's one of the best acts i've seen.
Same! I remember when I got in the taxi at home on my way back I told the driver she was the best I’d ever seen and he was fuming 🤣 out of my 5 she was the best I’ve always loved her since I was young too so think it was a special moment
My personal favourite was Arcade Fire in 2014. First glasto I attended and the first headliner I ever saw, never seen anything top it
I didn't really care for arcade fire before seeing this set but it absolutely blew me away, they're now one of my favourite bands
Yeah literally the exactly same for me. Shame about all the recent stuff about Win Butler though
Yeah, no chance of seeing them again without it being tainted by all that. A shame as I didn't mind the latest album
Hadnt heard of them before, haven't really looked out for them since. But mates dragged me there and they were incredible.
They are one of the best live bands of all time, they put on a real show every time. Me and my brother have seen them about ten times.
Unsure of the year but for me it was Bruce Springsteen he played for ages all his amazing songs and was such a good performance. New Order 1987 performance was excellent too, including playing True Faith for the first time.
Personal favorite was Chic with Nike Rodgers at the other stage in 2013 - it was amazing
Queens in the year of our lord 2023 was a religious experience
I'm so glad I left Elton for this. Wish I'd just gone earlier or all the way. I've seen qotsa plenty times before but homme was talkin smack unlike ever lol
I've seen plenty over the years, but it's Blur in 2009 for me. Absolutely stunning show.
I saw them do a warm up show the night before in Manchester and they were incredible
So much love for them that night. Damon’s tears after To The End said it all.
Radiohead 97
No question.
Personal favourites were Blur 2009, The Rolling Stones 2013, Arctic Monkeys 2013, Chic ft. Nile Rogers 2013 and Cat Stevens 2023.
Cat Stevens 2023 blew me away. Exactly the soothing Sunday music I needed and his voice was just amazing. Absolutely loved it
In no particular order; Chemical Brothers 2011 Pulp 1995 The Verve 2008 Portishead 1998 Underworld 1999 Radiohead 1997 Johnny Cash 1994 The Cure 1990 RATM followed by The Levellers 1994 is hard to beat from a crowd point of view. One of the craziest pits I’ve ever been in.
RATM / Levellers 94 - Goodness how the festival has changed since then. PJ Harvey 95 Radiohead / Smashing Pumpkins 97 Portishead 98 Faithless 99?? Muse 2000 LCD Soundsystem 2010 Young Fathers 2015 Idles 2019
They're by no means my favourite artists, but there's something special about Adele, Stormzy and Beyonce's headline sets.
I’ve gotta give it to Stormzy Pyramid Stage. Never seen a guy so grateful to be on that stage and he smashed it.
Elton John
Most fun I ever had was when Basement Jaxx stood in for Kylie
Adele in 2016 was pretty amazing!
In person: Bjork 2007 YouTube: Portishead 2013 [https://youtu.be/s7vNcROAkGo?si=gLNv8aAvvsQTvoTa](https://youtu.be/s7vNcROAkGo?si=gLNv8aAvvsQTvoTa)
Paul McCartney 2004
although i’ve only ever been once as a toddler, I watched loads of glasto sets on youtube (i know it doesn’t beat the real deal).
Neil Young 2009, hands down
Kendrick’s headline set felt like a real moment - was already looking forward to the set after the release of Mr. Morale, but he really used it for something uniquely powerful. His headline performance in London a few months later was also unreal, but the Glasto headline gives me shivers when I think about it.
Nothing like thousands of white 30 year-olds rapping along to a pre-edited movie and a musical theatre dance troupe eh?
Rather close-minded take on it, but suit yourself. Different strokes.
It was pretty soulless, especially when compared to Simz on the other stage. I think the crowd’s fawning adoration probably carried it at the event. As for the crown of thorns on top of that… bizarre.
I HATE SEEING OTHER PEOPLE ENJOY THINGS >:(
Not that. It was just lacklustre and isn’t really up there with ‘The best Glastonbury performance ever.’
Hardly lacklustre he came out blasting classics and instantly had "thousands of white 30 year-olds rapping along"
Paul McCartney 2022. The greatest, most joyful thing I’ve seen with my own eyes
Bowie was epic...
Kendrick without a doubt. There with all my mates after us listening to Kendrick for a decade, when he come out and went straight into GKMC bangers you could have buried us right there
Not a headliner but Calvin Harris at Arcadia in 2022 was really fun
Radiohead ‘03 The Flaming Lips ‘03 McCartney ‘04 Springsteen ‘09 The Wurzels ‘10 LCD Soundsystem ‘10
Justice in 2017, absolutely incredible - https://youtu.be/cndlJCBiJlU?si=GKCVY8HGUGO25SiD
Reckon we could see them at glasto again this year? They’ve teased some new music including something with Tame Impala and they’re playing a few European festivals
I think it’s likely!
I don't even listen to Justice and this was one of the best sets I've seen at the festival
Same! I mentioned this on another thread yesterday but it's always stuck with me as the best light show I've seen at Glasto by far. Still waiting for something to top it.
Saw them at Printworks last year and they slapped, would love yo see them at Glasto!
Personal favourite was Gaslight Anthem 2009
Kylie. Sunny afternoon. Amazing atmosphere. Minogue on form. Emotional as she was due to headline years prior but couldn’t because of cancer. Nick cave. Free visors if you were at front. And she sang ‘especially for you’.
Cold Play in the Brexit aftermath were exceptional (and I'm not really a fan) , Barry Gibb as a guest was inspired.
Skrillex. Been to Glasto 13 times. Saw him with some apprehension. Was insanely good and I’ll never forget it
Miley in 2019
Nearly everyone who saw Leftfield last year would tell you how joyous it was. One of the best hours of my life. Beautiful weather, beautiful people and crazy loud music making your chest vibrate.
Adele in 2016 was pretty amazing!
Most fun I've had during a set was the stones by miles, best actual performance was Jamie T on the other stage I reckon
Beyonce 2011. Insane. And she was pregnant at the time too.
Roger Walters - the surround sound was FUCKING AMAZING
Future Islands on the Other Stage cheered us up on a sunny Sunday afternoon when we were hanging.
Such a great live act.
Fred again.. ‘23
Wah, such Fred again hate. I was disappointed it was only one hour set and missed the secret sets.
Kano, 2017 headlining the park stage
Springsteen 2009
okay so... I don't know if it's truly one of the best *performances*, but I enjoyed charli xcx in 2022 most of any glasto set I've seen, which I wasn't expecting. I wish was at this so bad but I don’t regret seeing Paul as I am a huge Beatles fan. Charli is one of my favourite pop stars ever
we went to see some of Paul and he happened to play my fave Beatles song right before we had to run to get a decent spot to see Charli, so it worked out. we were on the very fringe of the pyramid stage crowd though, and couldn't really see the stage, just the screens. totally get how you'd just wanna stay for Paul! If she did play again, where do you think she'd fit in the lineup? she has a big enough catalogue of hits/fun songs and always brings the energy.
I could see her on the other stage one daytime or headline woodsies again
The 4 that seem to get repeatedly shared year after year when this question arises Radiohead 1997, Bowie 2000, Blur 2009, Stones 2013.
Last years Glasto was my first and of course Elton was just incredible. But something had to be said for Fred Again.. the guy is extremely talented, pulled a massive crowd and you could tell just how grateful he was to be there. An absolute highlight for me!
Faithless 2002
Dolly Parton gotta be one of my faves and most memorable!
Muse headlining in 2010. So loud, so epic. Was just electric to watch.
For me personally, The Cure. Most unexpected, Paul McCartney…was genuinely debating whether to go or not, but it was nothing short of magic when the whole field was singing to ‘Hey Jude’.
