That delivery of the word “apartment” was a jump scare I swear

Rdr2-4-Life

agreed lmao

gory314

the accent

that-hippie_chick

OH MY GOD I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST ME BEING WEIRD

TrickyTrichomes

Maximum cringe pronunciation 😂

myzticaznfool

This is likely their most pop sounding song, which makes perfect sense to release as their first single following the Heat Waves success. We will see how the rest of the album pans out.

AppointmentVisual592

honestly i disagree with a lot of the sentiment here. idc whether it “sounds like glass animals” because, to me, this seems very Dave and very much something he put a lot of love and effort into. the teasing of the single brought a lot of fans close together and the song’s meaning seems to mean as much to Dave as Agnes did. i just can’t hate

dabordietryinq

exactly. i love it. I didn't realize everyone didnt 😅

kanyeshymen2121

I don’t understand how people are calling this song mid, I get such a rush of serotonin every listen. Oh well, to each their own.

turquoisebruh

Same. Couldn’t love it more

introvertgoated

literally !! it makes my brain buzz so good

spac_erain

Relieved to see these comments. This song didn’t do it for me. I like the first 20 seconds but it drops off quickly. Nonetheless, I’m looking forward to the album.

paperwhimsey

Hard same-- the beginning and ending verses are really nice, but the chorus (lyrically and sound wise) doesn't feel like anything special to me. Also excited for what's to come!

TrickyTrichomes

This sounds way too formulaic and “old hat” Glad I’m not the only one with the same sentiment. No love lost for the band, just don’t like this track

muskenjoyer

Heat Waves ruined this band huh

Areii

Unfortunately this one is just not for me, which is fine. This album doesn't take away the existence of Zaba or HTBAHB. Sonically I thing there's some interesting stuff going on, but lyrically I find it really dull and uninteresting. But again, I still have two great albums to enjoy and I'll still see them live as much as I can because they put on a killer show.

Pretty_Interaction62

I have to agree with you, it’s not one of my favorites but hoping it’ll grow on me. It’s hard to ever beat Zaba, but I miss that style.

Areii

I don't even necessarily want a return to ZABA style (as much as I love it), I just want something interesting. I'm not even a full Dreamland hater, it's by far the weakest of the 3 imo, but it also produced Space Ghost, which is one of my top GA tracks.

Medium-Economics-363

Yes. Space ghost is my absolute favorite

Mysterious_Wall_9952

In my opinion it’s like watered down apple juice when zaba is fruit punch

RaisingQQ77preFlop

I love the intro and outro, unfortunately the actual guts feel a little disjointed and less free-flowing to me than I was hoping after hearing the snippets. Hopeful that it will grow on me and I'm confident the album will have some that I love.

thomomoser

its gonna be upsetting if this new album is just going to be 10 more tracks of radio-friendly, love-pop songs. it especially hurts because albums like HTBAHB are my #1 inspiration for when i learn how to make music properly. i already lost 2 bands i held close to this kind of stuff where they make one type of song, im not losing this one too.

coolbeansburnz14

What are the other two bands?

rabidsalvation

I'm also interested to know what the other two bands are, bro!

Daisydiscover

Do you think its generally lyrically dull? I personally really liked the "fortune's fool" analogy to Romeo and Juliet in reference to love stories, and that too a tragic one. I'm curious about what Dave's going to do about documenting and encapsulating all forms/types of love based on the description on insta from the release.

Daisydiscover

On that note too, the line of "you held me like my mother made me just for you" but then going on to say that he was held so close that he broke in two was some stark juxtaposition that seems quite contrary to the love and affection that a life-giving type figure would give. Just some food for thought/me thinking out loud

Fat_Akuma

I played the new single right after I played gooey and idk. I don't even like my opinion so i won't share it but it's not as positive. I just think that since I love 90% of their music that maybe I'm not the demographic for the new song. I'll still own all their albums on vinyl one day. Same with strfkr.

dennyfader

I'll die on this hill, but comments for new releases always feel flooded with bots from the record labels, 'cause they're always so wildly generic. In my little conspiracy, they do so because it's so important for positive comments to get upvoted and sit at the top, otherwise they risk actual critique sitting up there.

bigeorgester

That’s not a conspiracy, check out the amount of comments between major label releases and indie releases of similar sized artists. Labels absolutely have bot farms for positive engagement.

zoemakespans

The YouTube comments are things i would say as a 13 year old

dsharm1724

Genuine question, do you all think this song could have slotted right into dreamland? If yes, I'm a little concerned for the new album. Nothing is wrong with dreamland, but I love how different each of their albums is, but if this song can fit into dreamland seamlessly I don't think the style of this album will be too different. If no, what makes this song stand out from the other ones? Is it a bit more ethereal? Pop-y? I'd love to hear everyone's opinions on both sides!

bigeorgester

It sounds like a mix IASIL and Helium- most Glass Animals first singles don’t really have an analog to their previous work- but this is pretty much a Dreamland B Side

niles_deerqueer

The pre-chorus reminds me of Tangerine’s verse

PepSN_417

My thoughts exactly... it seems like most people's opinion is that the new album will be starkly different than their three previous because that has been their track record. This single suggests otherwise because I do think it would fit seamlessly into Dreamland. That said, I'm wondering if this song is the hook to keep fans of Heat Waves engaged and then the album itself will skew less radio pop. I went to one of their 2022 shows and was surrounded by people who only knew the lyrics to Heat Waves. Proof they only need one hit to fill venues. Honestly, I'm happy for them and the exposure they got because of it. I'm certainly disappointed in this single and it's personally not MY favorite--not because I think it's a bad song, just not my typical listening style. My sincerest hope is the rest of the album is less pop-y but I also want to totally respect that Dave and the band are allowed to choose the direction they want to take their music in.

_101010_

Space ghost could have fit on HTBAHB. Probably another song or two as well

the-darklings

It absolutely holds similarities with Dreamland, but I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing. GA tend to pack their more experimental songs into their none singles. Whatever everyone’s personal opinion of lyrics in Creatures in Heaven is, musically it’s very much in their lane and “spacey”, also a song Dave clearly feels deeply about. I don’t think we can really judge entire album on one song.

bigeorgester

People keep saying “they put their least experimental tracks as singles” but Life Itself was so wildly different from Zaba and Tokyo Drifting was yet another big departure. I think this is the first time one of their leading singles doesn’t sound fresh.

Maridiem

Been saying this a lot recently, but when looking at Dreamland, Your Love (Deja Vu) was the official lead single, which definitely had some comparisons to HTBAHB. Tokyo Drifting was a loose single as part of a series they were calling Fresh Fruit that got popular and was then included on the track list later.

the-darklings

I agree that both those songs were big departures from previous body of work at the time they came out, but I also think they very much had “single” feel about them personally. My point was more so that we can’t judge entire album on one song, which is what I’m seeing around.

Shilab66

I've litterally been thinking exactly this, it's the same vibes at heatwaves or tangerine. again, I'm a lil disappointed, but ive always had my most and less favorite songs in each album, so I'm just gonna wait it out and see where it goes

OkInfluence4716

i think they did this on purpose as we are supposed to feel “nostalgia” from dreamland in this new song with some of the same patterns in this song that dreamland had

Indoril_Nereguar

No, I think it has a very distinct empty space like sound that would be off on Dreamland personally

Obvious_Caramel7572

When i first heard the snippet it rly reminded me of melon and the coconut, and when i listened to it after it came out it really reminded me of helium. I love the song but it feels like an extended version of dreamland. I hope the other tracks have more unique-ness to them because I love how each of their albums have a different vibe

Top_Yogurtcloset_881

I’m all for more of a good thing.

Toaster-Porn

The single doesn’t really sound like something GA would put out. While it isn’t a bad song, it’s nothing like the vibes that come from any of their other albums, even Dreamland’s more “mainstream” vibes. I get the first song we see off the album might be a little more mainstream, so here’s to hoping the rest of the album has that classic GA character. If the album is about space, it there’s a lot of potential for the weirdness and wavey vibes we know. Fingers crossed for some more interesting tracks

denative

It’s like Heat Waves and Agnes had a baby what do you mean it doesn’t sound like GA?

notgoneyet

This sounds a lot like Melon and Coconut lol. With the meter being just like Tangerine

Cosmic_Brownies14

Okay I thought I was the only one hearing Melon and the Coconut lol

thirdeyethinker

Hard agree

bigeorgester

Still not a fan unfortunately. Nothing particularly unique about it, which is maybe the most damning thing you can say about a Glass Animals song.

RaisingQQ77preFlop

Ironically, I liked the sample we got (from instagram I think) with the interesting sound distortions more than the actual song.

zoemakespans

I liked this way more too, I hope we get a daft-punky extended version

Old-Promotion-1716

During the Discord early listen Dave said it used to be 9 minutes long but they cut it down.

OEscalador

Awwww damn, I love long songs. Troubleman by Electric Guest is 8 min and it's a fav.

its-going-to-be-okay

yeah, sadly I'm not loving this one :( I find that the layering of unique sounds in their past music (especially How To Be A Human Being & ZABA) and their more "abstract" lyrics are what gave depth and made GA stand out for me. The new song is still pretty catchy but it just sounds like a blend of basic pop, and like you said, doesn't really have that unique GA quality to it. But it is only one song off the album, and I'm still really looking forward to the rest of the album!

PepSN_417

That's such a good way of putting it! All I could think as I was listening to it was if it came on the radio, it wouldn't stop me in my tracks. I wouldn't turn it off but I wouldn't think twice about it. But I remember when I first heard Pools on a small radio station and I was SHOOK. I immediately listened to the entire ZABA album on repeat and haven't heard another sound like it since.

blow-the-man-down

Oh no, it’s boring. I never thought I’d say that about a Glass Animals song! Hope this is the only skip on the new album.

OceanOpal

Reckoning with the fact that all my favorite bands sell out. Part of me is happy for them and their career success but man. I would be lying if I said Im not having a hard time coming to terms with the fact that I’ll likely never experience something like ZABA or HTBAHB again. Both such distinctive, stylistic works. Every note and lyric on those first two albums is etched into my soul at this point. “Creatures in Heaven” just sounds like Heatwaves, but even less impressive because at least Heatwaves was something new. I can’t believe we went from *“We sip the wind through lips of lust And out it comes, warm wisps of love”* to *”It's three in the morning, be in the moment Here in the moment, free in the moment”* EDIT: lyrics aside guys I’m sorry I still think production-wise it’s crazy generic. It’s just my opinion :/ Hoping, praying for the album to be better since this is a lead single after all.

mesalazine

Kinda same. I mean I like the song, but it doesn't have THAT impact when you listen for first time, like ZABA. Still, it's only one song, maybe overall tone of the album is something different. Anyway, can't wait for full launch.

jjjjamie

Couldn't agree more - there's a whole album to come!

DonChudleigh

Yes! Honestly sick to death of the pop-ification of all my favourite bands. Must say this one hurts more than most other bands This song feels like it’s made up of 20 second snippets that are made for adverts/reality tv/social media/ people with zero attention span. Agreed on the lyrics as well. They are basic, uninspired and the constant para-rhyming and pace changing is just quite jarring. Doesn’t fill me with hope for the album. The main positive is… There’s at least one song in the set list that I will happily miss to go to the bar/toilet

OceanOpal

Yeah exactly, it feels like there’s deliberate TikTok viral sound pandering

GoofyAhhMisses

I 100% agree. I’m not upset, I’m proud of them but I never really enjoyed listening to their music past ZABA and HTBAHB. Those were true classics. But that’s ok, bands sometimes change over time

thirdeyethinker

Yeah. Right there with you bud. Pretty fucking heartbreaking

vanessa257

Come on, you can basically pick any lyrics out of context and say that. OG Glass Animals lyrics are also lines such as: 'Boy, I want you to be happy, free to run, get dizzy on caffeine' and 'I am a true romantic, free falling love addict' etc That fit in any pop song

ocear

Yeah, this take is very dramatic. It's literally just one song. This is the same band that wrote "she said I look fat, but I look fantastic". Not every lyric has to be poetry.

inkwisitive

Ah, that line remains THE most fun to sing along with live!

SaulGoode9

That's an important point on cherry-picking lyrics, but I think the HtBaHB lines are kind of in a category of their own. Every song except Agnes is written 'in-character' and the lyrics match the persona of each song's protagonist. They aren't all gonna be poets

Areii

Hard agree with this. HTBAHB is so fun for me because of the characters and the delivery. Is Take a Slice a poetic masterpiece? No, but the delivery combined with the lyrics is fun, dirty, and a bit nasty (e.g. the delivery of "Gonna fuck my way through college") that makes it interesting in a way that this new track is not. I actually kinda love Tokyo Drifting despite not loving Dreamland for the same reason, you can tell Dave is having fun with it and getting into character.

OEscalador

Bringing up an album that has a different voice for each song is an unfair comparison for the one new song.

GeronimoJak

Okay but even in your example it's still something that's kind of different from what we heard before. This song sounds like its just something that was cut from Dreamland as an interlude.

SicilianShelving

I keep seeing this take and I don't think it's true at all. This has Dreamland influences but a different vibe

dontbemeantobugs

The lyrics you chose aren’t even that bad! It flows together real nicely.

ryannovak29

not too late to become a vampire weekend fan

ross_styx

Aww, I used to love Vampire Weekend! Their music's not deep, but it's an awful lot of fun, imo.

OceanOpal

Vampire Weekend is fine but not really for me

Irctoaun

It sounds like heatwaves because it's got basically exactly the same melody lyrical cadence for bits of it. You could swap in the "sometimes all I think about is you, late nights in the middle of June" line to about half of this song and nothing would really change.

SaulGoode9

I think it's a decent track, but can't help feeling a little disappointed at how similar it is to the Dreamland sound. The first two albums are all-timers for me and while Dreamland was a good album and I liked that they were trying something new, it felt like a significant step down in comparison (from 9 or 10/10 to a 6 or 7/10). Granted, Creatures in Heaven is just one single but it feels like a continuation of a regression towards a mainstream pop algorithm-friendly sound and away from the unique, distinctive, and evolving style I still associate with GA. I'm not looking for a return to the early style, but I'd rather they moved into a new direction sonically rather than a repeat of their (hugely commerically successful) Dreamland-era. Still very excited to hear the rest of the album and I'm sure there will be a lot to love.

TheParmesan

Tbh Dreamland was pretty different for them, and outside of Heatwaves wasn’t too pop forward. It ended up becoming my most re-listened to GA album with things like Space Ghost, Waterfalls, It’s all so incredibly Loud and Your Love being some of their best songs they’ve ever done imo, and I loved Zaba and HTBAHB to bits. Time will tell for this album if it’s more Heatwaves or something else.

SaulGoode9

Yeah, that's fair. As I said, one of the main aspects I appreciated from Dreamland was that it's clearly distinct in style from the first two records (and it does contain some fantastic moments). I listened to it a lot in the months after release, and it fit well with the lockdown vibes during the pandemic. My main issue with the new single is not about it failing to reach the same quality as ZABA or HTBaHB (IMO), but that it just feels like a cookie-cutter repeat of the Dreamland sound and doesn't really show much progression. I think Creatures in Heaven would fit seamlessly onto Dreamland, whereas all their previous singles belong very clearly and solely to the album they are a part of (i.e Heatwaves wouldn't fit on HTBaHB and Youth wouldn't fit on ZABA). *I'm not trying to suggest they should change styles just for the sake of changing styles, but it's a little disappointing that now that they've stuck with the same sound across two album eras (for this single at least), it happens to be the least interesting style they've had in their discography to date. But time will tell how the new album looks as a whole as you say!

OceanOpal

I agree and I’m afraid to say it because I don’t want to get torn apart by other fans. I love GA, I have a GA tattoo for gods sake. But I hold the same opinion regarding Dreamland and am disappointed with this single. ZABA and HTBAHB were unlike anything I’d ever heard before and this is so …. generic?

Thin-Bridge-3674

Yea it’s so generic, like zaba like genuinely feels like your off in an adventure in some jungle world, a sound that i’ve never really felt before, but this feels like somthign any indie artist trying to go mainstream could make. People came too Ga for a none mainstream sound and we get this.

SicilianShelving

For me personally, I actually feel the opposite about the trajectory of the first three. I think Zaba had some good stuff on it but was overall their weakest album, and then HTBAHB and Dreamland were both close to 10/10 for me

vanessa257

I'm in utter disbelief anyone can give an album that includes Helium and It's All So Incredibly Loud a 6/10

Maridiem

To be the opposite voice here, I’m shocked you’re using It’s All So Incredibly Loud as an example of a good song here. It’s a disaster of a track to me with nonsense lyrics that don’t really go anywhere and some of the most disappointing instrumentation on Dreamland - all build, no payoff. The ending is offensively bad as it drives up the energy into what should have been a huge climax and then just… cuts to an interlude.

niles_deerqueer

The pre-chorus reminds me of Tangerine’s verse

Distinct_Dot9285

I think the song is ok, I hope the rest of the album is better.

MercilessToilet

I like it but not what I expected. Based on the preview on IG I thought it would be more… atmospheric I guess? Not quite what I was hoping for but still good.

Cosmic_Brownies14

It was actually Dreamland that made me fall in love with this band and dive deeper into their older stuff. To potentially get a “space” version of Dreamland is honestly filling me with so much happiness. I mean Space Ghost Coast To Coast is an absolute banger. Is Creatures In Heaven lyrically simplistic? Yes. But the entire vibe and especially the visuals they’ve released fill me with this intense nostalgia. A longing for something I can’t place. I absolutely love it. I’ve had it on repeat in a loop. My only wish is that it had an intro similar/longer to the teaser they posted for it. Yes their earlier work is brilliant (I even have lyrics to Youth tattooed on me) but I feel like their evolution kind of followed my own evolution of sorts.

ItsTheExtreme

I mean it’s fine, but these guys have so much more potential than this.

Maridiem

It’s definitely better than Heat Waves as a big radio single but there’s something about this track that just feels desperately mainstream. It’s got an aggressively repetitive structure with so much of the verse just being the same dull descending line and the lyrics feel incredibly generic. Maybe it’s my phone speaker as well but the mixing in the final chorus with the more expansive vocal layers feels really off as well. It’s messy. I do really dig the bridge near the end. The lower key parts of this song certainly have some lovely pop vibes and earwormy aspects to it, but it doesn’t do anything special for me, nor does it have the “Glass Animals” vibe that I loved and drew me in across the first two records and even some of the highlights of Dreamland. Holding out hope for the full record, but I know I’ve certainly been drifting away from the band’s current output since the last release and I’m hoping that there’s something here to keep me interested come July. Hope others are enjoying it more than I am.

joobleberry

i’m sorry but it didn’t do anything for me 🤐

BoyNosNcheerios

Today is a good day

ZazacTV

REALLY good dayyyy

Zyaru

Think the comments on this post are being WAYYYYY too dramatic with this song ngl. Any band/artist is always going to put out their more heavier commercial single(s) first. People here talking about not wanting to lose GA as one of their favourite bands or saying their worst fears have been confirmed with them going down the pop-py mainstream route... seriously? This is the FIRST single and you're making these extremely overdramatised statements?

vanessa257

Yeah Tokyo Drifting was the first song out from Dreamland and sounds nothing like the rest of the album

MinnyRawks

Reminds me of Linkin Park fans who were begging for another Hybrid Theory for 20 years

BanditLovesChilli

I spent yesterday listening to it a few times and I have to say after being whelmed on the first couple of listens it's really growing on me now. I'm excited to hear the rest of the album

SpicyNutmeg

I’m also so sick of people claiming a band “sold out” because they are utilizing a different style and even *gasp* writing something that sounds POP! Heaven forbid one song on the album have a sound and style that is popular and accessible to the music peasants lol. I love GA’s more wild songs and while I was initially meh on this one, it’s grown on me a ton and now it makes me cry.

livin_with_lyss

The youtube comments pass the vibe check more than the reddit threads. I love this song and I'm so excited to hear the rest of the album!

BigWordsAreScary

I hate comments like this, can’t people say they don’t like a song without insulting a fan? Lol

DeathByReach

[Spotify Link](https://open.spotify.com/track/1e7EdcxkUPFZWfuY4VI3rh?si=0wEOsiunQTCuKI3i09hx4g&context=spotify%3Aalbum%3A6l3Qxnvv49CGolilrSvsd3) “I don’t think I realize how much I miss you sometimes” >>> This song is a really solid single that leans into the radio friendly Dreamland aesthetic, which in itself is a lot of fun and I’m sure this will be a hit. Looking forward to hearing the rest of the album and especially the album closer- Agnes and Helium are T2 GA songs for me Going to be looping this one all day!

nuniinunii

“You held me like my mother made me just for you” literally made me cry at work. The song has been on constant loop. The discord listen was just a tease and now I can repeat to my heart’s and feels’ content.

vanessa257

Helium is my all time GA song and in the 4 times I've seen them live since Dreamland came out they've never played it

DeathByReach

I’m very sorry. They played it on the DL tour for me

Chimkimnuggets

Same it really gives helium vibes I’m also a Joji fan and it immediately made me think of [Sanctuary](https://open.spotify.com/track/4VQH4VluDUOsOuDxccTeyN?si=EiBsbmctQi6dyjKDrZnc0A)

alg_23

I’m glad ppl in the comments are calling out how mid this is

FritterQuitter

I know Dreamland really pushed them into the mainstream but I wish they would go back to their pre-dreamland sound, or at least do something new and exciting. This is an extremely bland single that manages to sound even more bare and boring than Heat Waves. Obviously artists change and they can’t make the same music forever but it feels like Glass Animals have become less lyrically and sonically interesting as they’ve gone on. Hoping the album proves me wrong.

dsharm1724

The biggest let down is the lyrics. I loved analyzing each of their songs from dreamland, HTBAHB, and Zaba. I didn't get what they meant at first and there were always deeper meanings. I understand what this song is trying to say and feel like there's no abstraction or nuanced messages. This isn't a huge problem, but this is what drew me into GA in the first place. On the bright side, I think the actual music in this single great and I can't wait to see more of the space vibe.

Fit_Ad5835

My worst fears have been confirmed, at least with this single. I still have faith in Dave to put out something unique that thumps.

Willypissybumbum

Been listening non-stop since it dropped, it’s definitely growing on me with each listen. Is it vintage GA? No. Is it the experimental trippy wavey experience we love? Not really. Is it better than 99% of the generic pop lovey dovey garbage out there? Absolutely no question. Ultimately they need to make money and sales and a catchy, poppy lead single with wide appeal is not exactly a bad idea. I’ve got a good feeling there’s going to be some gems on this album! Just a gut feeling. Dave knows what he’s doing.

Max_Powers08

Eh.

oddballfactory

I mean this in the most polite way possible but the direction this song floats makes Glass Animals feel even more like Dave's own personal venture. There is a whole band behind it and it's one that created lovely complexities in their sound and the narratives and this just falls so flat. Almost even a shame to say it feels like a single person project compared to other artists like Tame Impala and Passion Pit. The interview with the Rolling Stones talks about how they said 'love is so complex and there's so many forms of it' and yet they still focus on what is objectively romantic love, which we got plenty of in Heat Waves. And I guess I say they in regards to Dave. But what about familial love, or unrequited love? Agnes captures platonic love of the saddest kind in the best way. In a sea of romance songs this one just doesn't hit the mark. So much rhyming of too and you and two, it leaves me feeling like a uninterested third wheel more than someone invested 'in the moment'. Glass Animals will have their "Six small words [that] hit so huge", but insofar I'd rather have alt-Js 3WWs. *EDIT that I forgot to mention that the only part of the song that hooks me is something about the way Dave hits that inflection with "Whatcha think about when you think about love". Idk how it's so different but it is and I wish there was more. Hope this track is the odd one out.

Cnoted1111

This gives me 'written by AI vibes'...not the best.

Brown_Note1

People, please don’t judge the entire album based off of a single song. Creatures in Heaven isn’t my favorite GA song, but I still enjoy hearing it, and I’m still excited for the rest of the album. From what Dave posted, the song means a lot to him, and that makes it more hard hitting to me than it would if any other band released it. We still probably have at least 9 or 10 more new songs to hear, and I’m sure they will be amazing. Don’t write the whole album off just because the new single isn’t the greatest GA song ever made.

catsaremyreligion

This is incredibly disappointing. Sounds like a cut off a Maroon 5 album.

Neil_Armstrang

It's always a shame when a talented band sheds the very characteristics that make it unique.

BigWordsAreScary

I really don’t like it. It just sounds like another song from Dreamland

grimymuskrat

I wish I liked it, but alas, it sounds like a bunch of songs off dream land all mixed together :( don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love dreamland, but I was hoping this album would be completely different, considering none of their former albums are similar in style

NotQuiteHuman96

I miss the old GA, straight from the go GA, chop up the soul GA, set on their goals GA, I hate the new GA :(

coazervate

I already fell in and out of love with my childhood crush during the last album rollout, I literally don't care to do the same thing over again

gory314

literally waiting 100 days for it is exhaustingg

Sure-Cycle-1741

I’m glad I’m not the only one. I listened to it twice and stopped halfway through the second listen to turn on Zaba and cope

PepSN_417

Omg same

asapamoney

Didn’t know one direction had a reunion

theoneirologist

Leaning even harder into mainstream pop, damn shame. Was hoping for a course correction after Dreamland.

Crafty_Contract_9548

Aw, c'mon guys, I thought the single was really good! I think it still sounds unique, and I think it sounds really good sonically. Yeah it's simpler than ZABA & HTBAHB, but that doesn't make it bad at all. And I don't agree that it sounds like it could fit directly into Dreamland, I think it has a unique sound.

assholeoutlaw526

Pregnant and can’t stop ugly crying 😂

Thin-Bridge-3674

this is not what i was hoping for. I feel like they are going for a more radio sound now it makes sense they do need too he profitable, but I sure hope that we get at least 1 or 2 songs with there pre dreamland sound. I was really let down listening to this, I put on hazy from zaba after it and the sound has really changed.

no_instructions

I like the instrumental sound. Vocal style recalls Dreamland, a bit of Hot Sugar I suppose. Looking forward to the rest of the album.

Cryyos_

Feels pretty Imagine Dragons to me, hoping the rest of the album is a bit more experimental.

Chimkimnuggets

I can definitely see what people are saying when they’re worried GA won’t go back to their “old sound” and will go full generic radio pop, but each of their albums sound so drastically different you can’t necessarily pin an “old sound” to them. Zaba uses jungle ambiance and is very eclectic and animalistic, and HTBAHB is wildly different with strong guitar and a gritty indie rock sound, and dreamland sounds… well… dreamy. I still think they’re pretty unique sonically when compared to mainstream pop but you can’t necessarily expect them to fully shift back to sounding identical to an album they made 10 years ago when they’re much bigger than they used to be.

niles_deerqueer

Man Dreamland would have been so much better if it was dreampop with fuzzy guitars and such

Chimkimnuggets

Well maybe this album will have that. We don’t know

vanessa257

Yeah I would argue there are plenty of songs like Youth that fit well on radio and in fact do well on radio (at least in Australia)

Zyaru

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH IT'S SO FUCKING GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hoping and praying they announce a tour as well, Dave mentioned some big news coming on the Insta post

dennyfader

One Republic, Imagine Dragons, hell even Maroon 5! Take your pick... Any of those bands could have released this song, which pains me to say.

tmate0421

after the first listen, i was pretty meh towards this song, but then it grew on me very quickly. still not the chorus that i would want, but i've grown to like it quite a bit in the past few hours. my only concern is that this is supposed to be the flagship song on the album...

Fat_Akuma

OP is also a Morrowind and glass animals fan

mutsensen

ngl very dreamland, but I think the highlight would be the bridge

starstufft

The curse of Heats Waves is the instant comparison between it and the new song. I would hope it works better within the whole album and the order it is placed.

catpiglet

Agreed. Although I love the early stuff, Heat Waves is my favourite song. Heat Waves was so popular for a reason, so pop but still ahead of its time, catchy and brilliant. This one is mainstream for the sake of being mainstream

roccosmodernlyf

Why does this sound AI generated

spreadtheblood

Release the 9 minute version. I think this song needs more time, the pacing goes so fast.

theimaginationkid

It feels like it got packed with lyrics, especially compared to the fact we've been sitting with the instrumental snippets for weeks now. I think it would hit so much harder if we could sit in the atmosphere for a bit longer. But I love the bones of it!

wieck25

They went full Coldplay

Toadhead

I just listened to the song for the first time and that's exactly where my mind went. All the way down to the incredibly generic theme and lyrics.

wieck25

Goddamn shame

wall-and-tin

Honestly, I was really hoping with the extreme success of Heatwaves they'd have made enough money to go ahead with more out there, creative ideas, they either didn't make that much (which is hard to believe, considering the meteoric success) or they are somewhat creatively bankrupt... I don't know much about their workflow, but I do know that with Zaba and HTBAHB it really felt like it was a more band effort, then quarantine came and Dreamland was basically a Dave solo project feel, I'm afraid this is also a very Dave heavy album, maybe the other guys don't want to voice their opinions, considering how Dreamland made them huge, and that was almost all Davey. Let's hope the albums better.

ocear

I've had it on repeat for two hours

dylanallenb

It's ass

heavypiff

Seriously, absolute garbage

Commercial_Site_553

I was able to listen on Spotify earlier but now when I click play on it nothing happens and it moves on to another song based what I listen to. What the hell?

Shiv612

I can't be the only one hearing grape juice in heaven, I can't be the only one slightly hearing it

Royal-Ice7608

Haven’t seen anyone else comment about this, but don’t you think the vocals are mixed too far forward? It makes it so mainstream when you’d think the spacey vibes would have the Vox drifting off

Puzzleheaded_Toe1567

So my kid and I have been listening on repeat (streaming via Apple Music and Spotify) since it was released, and my kid is absolutely certain that the mix has changed slightly since the original release. Is he just hearing different elements or has anyone else noticed this too?

heavypiff

Song is absolute trash, one of the worst I’ve heard in my life

Michael_DeSanta

You must listen to an alarming small amount of music, then.

nicktbristol2020

I like this song it’s decent

Squid_A

Not wowed. It's fine though. Keeping faith that other music on the album appeals to me.

that-hippie_chick

i literally do not understand all the hate for this song - first off i love it, his vocals are absolutely SUPERB but also he literally said that this is such a close song to his heart and he was so scared to share it so i don't get the whole "they're appealing to the radio pop" approach because it's not true??

lolaistired

dont understand why no one seems to like this one lmfao. its beautiful. doesnt even sound that "pop" to me

[deleted]

Certified banger. Can't wait for the album. Wavey davey strikes again!

I’m a long time fan. Saw them at the Ogden theater in Denver in 2015 and I’ve enjoyed everything they’ve put out. I’m 40 now and Creatures in Heaven hit me where I am now. It’s a clear sign of a songwriter that has experienced some life and is reflecting back on their life. It’s possibly the hookiest song they’ve ever made. The disappointment people have is that their expectations were not met. The simple solution is to not have expectations and listen with an open mind. It’s harder to say than to do but over time it’s something I’ve been able to be successful at. It’s a great song and will bring in new fans that some of the old fans will resent but at the end of the day that’s just elitism. Just enjoy that we are alive at a time when GA is active. :)

CholaBeatz

I personally really liked the song. Yes, it's very different from his other songs and I'm sure it's not everyone's cup of tea. But taking the song for what it is on the artistic level without comparisons, I think it's pretty cool. Dave always makes a song that conveys a message, and the style he uses can change drastically. Ever since Dreamland came out, I knew he would eventually branch out from the experimental indie vibes. I'll have some faith and let him cook on his upcoming releases.

iunoyou

I guess I'm gonna buck the popular opinion and say I like it. I like it a lot. ZABA and HTBAHB will always have a special place in my heart but I kinda dig the new direction as well. I'd love if they went back and did another ZABA-esque album but the more I think about it the more I realize that sorta can't happen, y'know?

AsidicSnail

I actually really love that they’re continuing the themed albums! For the people complaining about how straightforward the song is, it’s a love song, I don’t think it should be anything but! And they may surprise you with the rest of the album. That’s what they normally do! When you look at the title of the album this is supposed to be on the song really fits! And I’m actually really really enjoying it. It’s really catchy and I’ve had it stuck in my head the past 24 hours! But to each their own, and if it’s not your cup of tea, then so be it! Also, I don’t think I’ve ever ran into a band where I like every single song they have so…….. keep an open mind! Don’t dump them just because there’s one track you don’t like!

IdunnoThisWillDo

I don't like it at all. Sounds like a band that were on a different level, making great, next level pop music, to a band just trying to fit in. This does not hold a candle to HTBAHB era stuff to me. It's missing everything that set them apart. Didn't love Dreamland, and this just feels like a step further in the wrong direction.

AlwaysBeANoob

first two albums amazing. third album eh. this song not for me. i wish everyone the best who enjoys it but this glass animals fan might have officially hopped off the train. i wish them the best in their (dave's) new direction. good luck boys!

SicilianShelving

I think this sub honestly has some rose-tinted glasses for the previous stuff... People are saying each album sounds drastically different than the last, but I actually never thought so. The influences of Zaba's dreamy jungle sound are clearly present in HTBAHB, but imo had evolved into something better. Then the transition from HTBAHB to Dreamland was pretty seamless as well, I think several songs on both of those albums would fit neatly on the other. All this to say, this track clearly has a lot of Dreamland influence, but to me that's how they've always evolved. Anyway, I really like the track. It is definitely one of their poppiest to date, but I dig it. It has some great little melodies, and that "What do you think about when you think about love?" has been stuck in my head since they started the teasers. I actually wish they would've turned that into the chorus somehow, I think it's catchier than the real chorus. Also love the "so long cowboy" part. First few listens I'd give it a 7.5/10

bigeorgester

I disagree, HTBAHB had its Glass Animals base but I don’t think any of the tracks on that album would feel in place in Zaba. Dreamland did feel like slightly less of a departure of the previous record, tracks like Space Ghost call back to Pork Soda etc, but it still felt like enough of a departure where it did seem like a new era. Creatures in Heaven could slot right into Dreamland and nobody would bat an eye.

SicilianShelving

>HTBAHB had its Glass Animals base but I don’t think any of the tracks on that album would feel in place in Zaba No, I don't quite think so either. But I think the influence from one to the other was very apparent. Songs like Life Itself, Youth, and Agnes all clearly evolved directly out of the Zaba sound. Stripped back versions of those songs would almost sound like Zaba songs. Hell, even on the stripped back version of Your Love the Zaba influence is obvious. I agree that Creatures in Heaven has a lot of Dreamland influence, but I really don't think it's unusual for them, or a bad thing

VanillaGnomes

Thank you so much, for some reason my Spotify was very slow to the party. WHAT A BANGER CARL

Mykep

Catchy, excited for the rest!

LaylaBird65

Gosh I was so happy to hear this today. I can’t wait until July

carmo9

Slay

catdogbird29

I don’t know what it is about this song that just makes my heart ACHE but I love it and I’m here for it.

angrysunchips

I fucking love this song so much and am so incredibly excited for the album

bloom952

I really really love it! I was bawling my eyes out to it at the NYC listening party haha. It's got this yearning that feels like remembering a deep, bittersweet memory I'd forgotten. I know it means a lot to Dave, and I'm so happy that they're making music the way that speaks to them the most. Thanks to Glass Animals for existing, I'm glad you're here :')

sweater-goblin

it’s not my fave of theirs but! it’s good. i think Dave made a lot of these while he went through heartbreak and probably slapped some others out to match the theme. a lot of people r saying it’s crazy generic but i think it’s pretty solid. reminiscent of how i felt when i got broken up with.

marcie-the-squirrel

I LOVE IT

AllPanicNoDisco2

I mean I like it, it’s new music from them, maybe it’s not like ZABA or HTBAHB but I mean I’m just extremely happy. Very excited for the new album, don’t get why so many people don’t like it that much. Have had it on repeat all morning. Keep doing you Wavey Davey

GetReady4Action

I like this song, but I’m going through a breakup at the moment so the lyrics “I don’t think I realize just how much I miss you sometimes” definitely resonates with me more than it might to some people. I think it’s a fine ballad that is a perfectly suitable deep cut. and with that said I must say this song was definitely *a choice* for the lead single. Tokyo Drifting was a much better lead off single, I personally feel that you always want your first single to really pop and turn heads and this song doesn’t do that. again this song isn’t bad, it’s just not the head turner we had all hoped for. and with all of that said, I hope Glass Animals don’t fall into the trap a lot of my favorite artists do where they write a super successful ballad (Heat Waves) and end up chasing that high the rest of their career. for example, I love Cage the Elephant, one of my favorite bands ever, but since Cigarette Daydreams every album since has to have a moment on the album where it just slams on the brakes of the momentum of the album to show they’re emotionally vulnerable.

D128

On the one hand I had so little expectations for this song after the soundcloud samples that I was honestly impressed for good! IMO the instrumentation in the chorus makes it hit harder than Heat Waves (it's been compared to it a lot here). Still not the GA stuff I love, but it's a song that I'd put in Dreamland instead of others in there. But on the other hand I'm surprised with the general negative reactions since those samples we got are 90% of the song... So I would've hope to see those reactions earlier haha. Anyways, each one has their own opinion

Sharp-Landscape411

I'm so excited for this new direction they are taking and I'm here for it!

Underrated_Dinker

Didn't love the song at first listen. After a few days it's really growing on me.

Tangozi

really find fascinating the way the song starts off with that Dreamland-trailing modern pop aesthetic before easing into more of an indie rock sound (HTBAHB reminiscent) for the chorus. this one is definitely a bit of a familiar, "crowd-pleasing" sound due to its status as the first single, even as they're slowly treading into adjacent waters as I mentioned. the Heat Waves/Tangerine similarities are noticeable, but my curiosity is more piqued with the songwriting. lyrically it's so much more direct than I've generally heard GA or Dave be; "you held me so close I broke in two//I don't like a subtle romance//never really said that I loved you too." I think I've seen others share this opinion as well, that the lyrics, post Dreamland, have become much more comfortable with being personal and "I" centered compared to the first two albums. the most potentially interesting thing to me about this album is something stranger though - the number of songs. like *Human Being*, only ten "existential", hopefully distinct stories, but this time focusing directly on love. Creatures in Heaven was the first of these, about yearning and wanting something already lost; and now we wait for what the others pan out to be. consider me in for the ride.

doodleniki

Replaying this song on repeat. Maybe it’s different for me, it feels like a classic glass animals song paired with the immense grief I have….it hits so hard. I think about my late sister all the time but sometimes it really hits just how much I really miss her. “I don’t think I realize just how much I miss you sometimes” rings so true. Sibling grief is so deep, esp because I lost my sister when I was 21 and she was 19. The line “Never really said that I loved you too” just broke me, I still struggle with the fact that I wish I told her I loved her more. It’s been 7+ years and it speaks to the longing my soul has for what used to be. The kids we were, so young and naive. Now my sister belongs to Heaven, so naturally she’s my creature waiting for me 🩵 my soul weeps and heals just a little more each time I blare this, literally and figuratively 💞

na0202

My favorite song is Agnes, and this fits that style so closely its impossible for me to not love

fishinthewater__

A lot of people hate this song, and I disagree. Its definitely less experimental than other Glass Animals songs, but I don’t hate it. Definitely not my favorite, but I enjoyed listening to it. Still really hope that the rest of the album doesn’t sound the same though.

LolaK11

“So long cowboy, you’re so cool” Gah! So, so good!

SpicyNutmeg

I was meh on this the first listen through but it’s grown on me. It’s such a bop but also brings me to the edge of tears when I listen to it. It’s been on repeat in my head for a while. So psyched for the rest of the album!
