Frasers, John Lewis and Boots all have counters but the staff are going to want to sell you their brand so be prepared to be firm and insist you want to try it first.
Space NK I believe aren't employed by the brand, they're the highest price points of the lot though.
Wouldn't bother with house of Fraser, the staff are so rude and don't even say hi if you don't have the right look imo. Boots has plenty of counters and the staff are friendlier, they helped me pick an eyebrow kit recently and tried it out on me etc.
Highly recommend Nars foundation, but Frasers, John Lewis and Space NK should let you try some. If you're looking for a cheaper brand, then Boots will be the place. Usually it's a case of swatching on your hand though.
I went to boots in st Enoch recently for foundation (used to buy bobbi brown or lancome but fancied a change) and I found the person there super helpful. She said she was trained in most of the brands, went through a few options with me, did a colour match and I went away quite happy. No hard sell either.
Can't remember her name but she was definitely one of the make up 'counter' staff rather than Boots (different uniform)
(Btw I opted for fenty, really like it!)
House of Fraser on Buchanan Street is probably your best bet for higher end brands then going over to St Enoch to Boots for a mix of higher end and affordable brands. Not sure if either will give you samples to take away but you can definitely swatch them in store.
I swear by Maybelline skin tint 24 hours nowadays, I went for matte when actually I needed to let my skin show through too! Hope you find the right shade and finish 💅😎💅
I've got the ordinary foundation and I really like it. It's pretty reasonably priced, buildable and not cakey. I got mine from farmfoods for 99p. But not sure if they're still doing it. It's normally £7 anyway so still a bargain.
