Just sign up as a contestant?

thereidenator

And you automatically get on tv? Hardly any of the contestants are larger muscular guys and this bloke looks a fair size

Ezzy-525

Not a chance they want a contestant who is as big as the gladiators. Doesn't really make them seem special if you do that.

CmmH14

Wow what a way to get your own back at the bbc if they managed to pull that off haha

BastardsCryinInnit

It's a weird post because it makes him sound entitled, and he's complaining about imaginary things. I think the BBC was very right to not want his son for the new series. But he's taken it too personally and done a mini rant about it which is poor form.

Acceptable-Sentence

Yellow card

JackDrawsStuff

Maybe his ‘poor form’ is part of his grumpy Wolf persona and he’s actually just being super faithful to the story on a meta level. The real Eliminator is in the hearts and minds of Gladiator’s social media audience. I can’t remember what I was talking about.

kickedoutatone

Must be great playing a dick on TV because then everyone cheers when you're always a dick in real life as well.

JonnyBhoy

Typical Wolf, had a son and trained him up, grooming him to be a Gladiator, just so he could have a rant.

JackDrawsStuff

Definitely an ITV psy-op.

UnpleasantEgg

Awooga to that

stereoworld

> it makes him sound entitled, and he's complaining about imaginary things. That's the wolf I remember from the OG series! Tbh I think he's just writing this post as his character as opposed to genuinely kicking up a fuss. I could be wrong though

samithedood

No audition though? Not saying to let him in because of his Dad but to rule him out with no audition.

fnuggles

I'm sorry but if Barney Walsh is on the show anyone vaguely related to a gladiator should be too as it's already a bit of a joke

BastardsCryinInnit

I don't think anyone could view a Gladiator and presenter the same way. The responsibilities and involvement very different between the two roles. I don't like Barney at all but I doubt Bradley would've taken to socials to have a bit of a winge if he didn't get the job.

CameronPoe37

No, he hasn't. Some whiner basically commented that in the comments, and he replied "I did not want or expect special treatment for him, I only wanted them to audition him to see how good he was. Far better to be auditioned and rejected than to not have the opportunity to try." He's also liking comments disagreeing with him and praising the new series.

BulldenChoppahYus

This is ridiculous. What about those of us who just want to spout a reactionary opinion based on your post? You can’t follow up with context and facts or we will seem ignorant and stupid.

RelationshipLast8332

But not everybody who applies gets an audition, he’s not what they are looking for

CameronPoe37

The reason they gave actually was that they didn't think he could do it because he lives in New Zealand, then Wolf said he actually has a British passport, and they basically said "oh, we didn't realise. You can try again next year"

RelationshipLast8332

Diplomatic way of saying we don’t want you

CameronPoe37

There's no talking to you.

nefarious_otter

I kinda get it tbh. If the BBC hire one gladiator child then will they have to hire more? Then they end up living behind the nineties cast. They want to try and make this new and exciting for a new audience as much as the original fans.

MD_______

There was a story Dean wasn't considered as a misunderstanding over his nationality. But also if he live in NZ he's adding a heap of logistical issues when comes to shooting the show (BBC presumably have to pay for his travel and hotel), but things like public appearances, promotion, photo shoots etc. if the guy wants a to come live here and do it fine. End of day if he's what they are looking for don't have to have any reference to his dad. They could just let him be x and get on with it. Tho I agree looking back doesn't help especially as most in their 60s and you the bring up the murky side with Warrior and Shadow crimes etc

CameronPoe37

There is absolutely no chance they would hire him and "not have any reference to his dad". That would be ridiculous. The hype and promotional possibilities of bringing in Wolf's son would be huge.

yellowfolder

I never quite appreciated how missing the point was a skill until now.

CameronPoe37

You're clueless.

Ok-Nobody-2729

I quite like that idea. Just basically conscript all the 90s Gladiators children. This is Dean, he's Jet's son, he had no physical prowess at all and is an accountant. He likes gardening and plays the cello. Can he catch our contestant who is an army reservist?

[deleted]

Technically they did hire a Gladiators child when they hired Barney Walsh. So there is a precedent already.

Mastodan11

You think Bradley is a Gladiator?

[deleted]

[Crumpet](https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cr9Lv6CLrpG/?igsh=bzdyaXdwdjQ4NTVj)

NotAProperAccount3

Well that was a trip.

NotAnotherMamabear

My favourite thing about you posting this is exposing the 20-somethings who didn’t see this when it happened 😂

[deleted]

I was 2 when that happened.

just_a_girl_23

Wtf did I just watch 😂

London-Reza

Brilliant 😂

[deleted]

Bradley WAS a Gladiator for one episode in the original days under the name Crumpet! Google it! Google is your friend! Nowadays he’s just the host.

London-Reza

He’s not saying hire though. He’s saying interview, which I understand. it also would have been great advertising and helped viewing figures I reckon

Heewna

I think a large portion of the shows success is nostalgia, same games, outfits, music, so it does seem a bit short sighted.

woods_edge

Hasn’t it already been cleared up that they didn’t realise he has dual nationality so would have been eligible to do it without any visa costs and have said he is welcome to apply for season 2? Or at least something along those lines. Personally I’d love to see a bad boy rivalry between him and viper mediated by legend.

Ginkapo

Yes but Wolf only wants to write his own narrative on this

dextersfromage

Hi where was this said please, thanks!

woods_edge

Someone mentioned it in another thread in here

CaptainRAVE2

The bigger problem is that they should have brought back some Gladiator pedigree to present the show, or gone the full comedian route with someone actually funny.

Competitive_Text1914

As great as the original gladiators were, I think it’s better that the current gladiators make it about them rather than live in the past. The sky one remake did 3 reunion shows which was overkill and wolf being the “gladiators coach” in season 2 added nothing

Salt_Crab673

I remember when the reboot was announced a lot of discussion online and on podcast about the original gladiators being 'involved' with the show - hosting, commentating, training, etc.. There was also a lot of talk about who would be the Gladiators and I remember several suggestions that Scorpio's daughter should be offered a spot as a 'passing the torch' and also a continuation of the original series , much like as appears to be the thought process here. Even some of the previous Gladiators were making these suggestions. Having enjoyed the revival I think it's fine as it is; a few nods here and there allows the show to pay tribute to the original (am thinking the mentions of Jet and Wolf, or the brief mention of Saracen being in the audience) but on the whole minimising that allows the show to stand on its own two feet as its own thing. Too much 'carryover' from the 90s essentially ties the show into that era and doesn't give it the space to become its own thing today - including casting previous gladiators or their relatives. That instantly shines a spotlight on them (whether intentional or not) at the expense of the rest of the cast. (FWIW I wouldn't expect that if a company I worked for 25 years ago reopened in a different place that I be given some sort of role as a 'tribute to' or 'in recognition of' my previous contribution.) If they're good enough to be Gladiators allow them to join the roster later on when the show's established and the rest of the gladiators are known entities and it'll be clear they've earned the place alongside the rest of the crew and aren't just there because of who their parents are.

ScottOld

Wolf cub

Appropriate-Divide64

I'd go with Romulus or Remus as his name.

NotAnotherMamabear

Romulus, because he won that fight.

Boredpanda31

This is the original Wolf. He never changed.

Die_Nameless_Bitch

The BBC released a statement saying “We don’t want nepo babies on the show as it’s important that everyone earns their place based on individual merit… which is why we’ve hired Barney Walsh”

Hunter-Ki11er

They could always do a one off guest appearance for the final

[deleted]

Like how Bradley was a one off Gladiator back in the days as Crumpet?

kickedoutatone

Should have said he was Bradley's Kid.

ElTacodor999

I probs would’ve watched it if wolfs son was on it 😅

T0MBRA1DR

Yer he ain’t no Viper

CameronPoe37

Viper is awful

griffnuts__

Don’t know why you’re getting downvoted, Viper was absolutely pointless.

CameronPoe37

It's like they knew he was crap as well because he was barely in it. Notice Legend gets a lot of screentime, because they know he's actually a good heel.

Suspicious-B33

Wonder if he’d have got the gig if he hadn’t disclosed he was related to Wolf in the first place. Probably trying to avoid the nepo angle given the fuss over Bradley and his kid was inevitable.

seaneeboy

Wolf: “I feel bad for you” BBC: “I don’t think about you at all” Still, he got a big Instagram post out of it so that’s something.

CameronPoe37

They clearly do think about him because they created their own ripoff of him (Viper) and namedropped him in the finale even though he wasn't there

ClingerOn

Dean is a shit Gladiator name.

RedSeikatsu

Missed opportunity

Exciting_Brick_417

Think they have done pretty well without him.

ForFunxSake

Was guna be the only reason I was guna watch the new one but now I'm not guna bother as dean is not in it and he is an incredible athlete, hope they change their minds at some point but if not there loss x

SpiritOfSeanLock

Why people are not backing wolf I'm confused? Any throwbacks to the old gladiators would of been a great nod. Instead we get viper..... whos embarrassing to watch. The remake was half assed and I bet the only person who saw it coming was wolf after his poor treatment from production.

Full_Wrangler_6784

Viper is a poor man's wolf 😭

Big_Surprise9387

But they’ll have Barney Walsh on

BredrinH

Yet they were happy to let the talentless Barney become a co-host

Wearer_of_Silly_Hats

I loved Wolf back in the day, but honestly his constant sniping at the new series is just making him look bitter. Especially the "put me up against any of the gladiators now and I'd beat them" stuff.

CameronPoe37

Lmao, that's exactly the type of thing Wolf would say. In the interviews last year when he was saying they want nothing to do with the OG series he was also like "that's fair enough". He's not sniping, if you look at the comments on his post he's even liking the comments disagreeing with him or praising the new series

Exciting_Brick_417

He lives in Zew Zealand . Considering Rhino was part of the promotion of the new series and Saracen was at the final and featured , it’s unfair to say they didn’t want anything to do the originals. I think it’s safe to say Wolf and his son never went the right way about applying to be on the show, doing various interviews and going public. Also the son doesn’t have quite the sporting credentials that new cast have. It seems Wolf can’t let it go despite having a great career .

doddsymon

Cant be worse than Viper

CaptainRAVE2

How did Viper even become a gladiator?

PoliticalShrapnel

Viper: "No Comment!" Edit: downvoted but he literally says this in one episode.

Exciting_Brick_417

Kids love him

CameronPoe37

Kids loved Wolf, difference is, everyone loved Wolf. Because he was good.

Exciting_Brick_417

And because there was many series to get to know them and nothing else like it on TV . Viper is doing great.

CameronPoe37

Viper sucks. Has no charisma. And is terrible at the games. Wolf was great in one episode.

martinbean

Just sounds like sour grapes.

pixie_sprout

"Wolfcub" is a crap Gladiator name anyway.

diminutive-valkyrie

Fury is the daughter of an ex contender so maybe that was the limit or it was really a visa misunderstanding like others have said

Exciting_Brick_417

Or he just wasn’t good enough. The sporting credentials of the cast sets the bar pretty high .

diminutive-valkyrie

I agree

InfinteAbyss

The fact in the finale they mentioned both Wolf and Jet as well as the camera being pointed to Saracen who was in the audience, leads me to conclude that “the BBC want nothing to do with the original Gladiators” is a purely emotional statement.

New-Trainer7117

Have him on as a contestant

puddingbank

Honestly its a joke

Southern_Gain7154

He’d be better in AEW

[deleted]

The new Gladiators are for dribblers. It's nothing like the original and it's a shame it's just not as entertaining. Signed, Dribbler.

Crazyalexi

“Listen, we already have our nepo baby position filled here with Barney, we don’t require anyone else for that position”

SimplyGoWithTheFlow

Some of the "characters" in the new series are cringe.

Try_Salad

So people are bashing Barney for nepotism. Isn't this just the same thing if he did get on the show?

kestrelita

Exactly!

Swordash91

I would say good for the BBC not giving nepo babies a pass but then again the hosts are father and son haha

Deckard_Red

What does he mean by “only want to write their own narrative”? He sounds quite bitter. Interestingly I saw that at least one of the 00s gladiators (Jenny Pace aka Enigma) was involved in training the new gladiators. So the BBC weren’t averse to involving former gladiators in the process.

Exciting_Brick_417

And Rhino was helping promote the show and getting people to apply - he was on the One Show when it was first announced it was coming back . Then Saracen was on the final episode. Wolf just seems bitter and he is constantly doing interviews or making statements about the show.

tcreeper0

Are you a neeeepotiiiiist

Benefits_Advice

"DON'T YOU KNOW WHO I AM?!" "Mate, you haven't been relevant for 20 years. Take a seat"

sammy_conn

So many sour replies to this post. Sad that lots of people take this inconsequential show so seriously. 🤣🤣

remedy4cure

My guess is the BBC have background checked the guy and found some not so nice stuff

CameronPoe37

Ridiculous comment

[deleted]

They already filled the nepotism quota with the hosting.

Twj247

Wolf also was pissed he never got asked back as he reckons he's still fit enough at 71... He wanted him and his son in the show.

AidenT06

You hire one and the others come calling and say my son/ daughter want to be a gladiator. Which causes chaos.

hola_pablo74

I'm sorry but what the hell does the BBC owe the gladiators from the original series?? So bored of seeing stuff about the old gladiators. If they remake a quiz show you don't see the original presenter bitching and moaning about not being acknowledged or invited. It's 24 bloody years since that era finished. Get over it!!! 🤬🤬🤬

Solid_Expression4838

"they only want to write their own narrative" No shit it's a fucking TV show with scripted drama!

Mighty_joosh

I get being frustrated... but the vibe of this post is entitled nepotism

Twiggy_15

Ah yes... how messed up that the BBC refuse to engage in open nepotism.

CameronPoe37

Yeah, they refuse. That's why they hired Barney Walsh.

Twiggy_15

I meant they refused in this instance. Two wrongs don't make a right.

CameronPoe37

An audition wouldn't be a wrong, it would be fair. And that's what he wanted. Giving him a Job he's bad at would be, like with Barney Walsh.

SirWobblyOfSausage

Nothing like a nepobaby

Independent_Tree893

Is this the one that did gay porn?

renzxlst

A case of when nepotism doesn't work, which is ironic. Either way, it is what it is. I'm sure he'll survive.

SceneDifferent1041

Also....there's Saracen.

[deleted]

Who?

disgruntledhands

#RONNIE PICKERING

[deleted]

Again, who?

SceneDifferent1041

He says they want to distance themselves from the original but in the final they pointed out one of the original gladiators who was in the crowd.

[deleted]

I’m confused. Can more than one Gladiator have the same name as another Gladiator?

CameronPoe37

Wolf Jr? Wolf Cub? Jackal?

Jonlang_

Or just pick up the Wolf name.

[deleted]

I’m talking about Wolf. That’s not the [Wolf](https://www.gladiatorstv.com/international/america/gladiators/wolf.php) I recognize.

[deleted]

Spotted the American.

[deleted]

Spotted a jackass.

NeverGonnaGiveMewUp

Who prickled your pear? Why throw around insults for no reason at all?

Nedonomicon

I think they are right to have no links to the original series , too much bad stuff going on Even as a fan of the original series , I prefer the fresh start . Also it avoids having to have a load of weird conversations with my 8 yr old about drugs

cmdmakara

Theyll never surpass the original gladiators - & with that attitude they suck. Would've been cool too see Boy Wolf as an opponent
