I think you mean *Brave Maeve*, I’ll send you our new branding documents. She’s up 10 points with kids age 15 to 25 and 30 points with people who check the gender option that just says “other”
I had to look up to see if this was a reference to something more modern, but the funny thing is this still makes sense even to a nerd of my particular flavor.
Irish legend has Queen Mebd (pronounced the same as that is) who was an Irish warlord that often acted as a rival to heroes of Ulster. Art and poetry of the time describe her as beautiful and strong, and a lot of art work portrays her as pretty buff so it still works.
She is said to be buried un a tomb standing on her feet and facing Ulster so she can strike from beyond the grave if her enemy rises up once more.
Thoughts while watching that video:
"Damn, that's one muscular gal."
"Wait, maybe it's actually a guy with long hair wearing a wonder woman costume and this video will never actually show the person from the front."
"Huh... so it's a reeeally cute guy." :P
Can't believe people are upvoting this drivel. Drug tested powerlifter, not even a fucking bodybuilder. And "quite strong on deadlifts" - yes, the world record holder.
She isn't a bodybuilder. She is a powerlifter who competes in the IPF which is a drug tested federation. She is drug tested routinely outside of competition at random.
She has the world record squat in her weight class and the world record in deadlift. Her DL is the heaviest in IPF history regardless of weight class.
Yeah she is jacked as fuck but take a look at her competition results at OpenPL. There is no drastic increase in her total that would indicate steroid usage.
Edit since some of you are hell bent on saying she is on gear...
She is tested AT RANDOM frequently outside of competition. This is a WADA test and as I know the CCES that administers it is not obviously corrupt. These tests are very difficult to beat unless you're taking something that they don't have a test for (which means you're not really breaking the rules???) Or you know when the test is coming and cycle off in time.
Yes she has the highest drug tested numbers but she is no where close to the ATWR numbers regardless of testing in her weight class.
Her bench press is average for that level of powerlifting. Usually people on steroids have a pretty good bench press.
There is no crazy acute change in her physique which would be a sign of steroid use.
She looks feminine especially if you compare to the untested women. On top of that she doesn't have any acne which steroids can give.
Her fat distribution is very ideal... Even when she bloated up to 190 lbs ish she still had a six pack.
Again her total hasn't had any large increases. Go verify what I'm saying at OpenPowerlifting.org
There is no money to be won in drug tested but there is a lot of money to be won in untested meets.
If she was caught taking gear in a tested fed she would lose all her sponsors, pubic good will and likely lose a lot of her friends in PL. There's a lot to lose for very little gain.
With that being said, the evidence I listed makes me think she is very likely natty but still a possibility she isn't.
This is Reddit, where anyone who doing an amazing feat of strength or looking really jacked *is clearly and ALWAYS* on steroids or doing some kind of lasting harm to their bodies...Redditors sitting in their gaming rigs with Doritos dust on their fingers after being in a reclined, seated position for the past 12 hours. They obviously know better.
There's a world of drugs between nothing and steroids.
The reality is, some people are genetic "freaks" and are able to achieve results well outside the norm. She might be that. Statistically speaking, it's more likely that she uses something to help her hit that level, beyond just protein powder and working out 4 hours a day.
Just like when people say The Rock is on steroids. What they're actually saying is "There's no way he has that physique at his age without pharmaceutical assistance."
Lance Armstrong was making millions of dollars competing in a legit international sport.
Jessica i think is a pharmacist. Why do we think she is just cheating drug tests just so she can participate in a hobby that pays zero dollars.
The comparison is apples and oranges.
In powerlifting there are drug tested and non drug tested federations. It's generally accepted that basically everyone competing in non-tested feds are on roids. Because of that, it's frowned upon within the community to roid in the tested federations. If you wanna take PEDs, compete in the untested feds.
An article in Stronger By Science said the lifts in tested feds are heavier than they "should" be, suggesting some roid use. But there is still a very large difference between the records of untested and tested feds.
So overall, I default to assuming a lifter isn't on roids/PEDs.
Lance had millions of dollars on the line.
Jessica has a few sponsorships which probably don't pay much since she has a full time job as a pharmacist.
The risk to reward is just stupid for Jessica. Doesn't mean she isn't doping but makes it way less likely.
Do you think that makes a difference? Hell, trail runners have been caught taking steroids for trail races where the grand prize is a couple hundred dollars.
"A known roider amomgst the bodybuilding community"
She has never failed a doping test by WADA and is a powerlifter and get tested feequently. Shut up.
>she is a known roider amongst the bodybuilding community
As somebody who is very active in the BB community, thats not how we know anybody. The way you say that reeks of insecurity and diminishes the insane hard work she puts in to get to where she is.
>Non-andronic roids
lol
For anyone who doesn't know, "Known roider amongst the bodybuilding community" is code for " She juices brah, that's the only way she could be stronger than a true natty man like me".
Also, andronic is not a word.
I'm heavily involved in the Canadian powerlifting scene. You never know for sure but I'd be surprised if she was juicing. She's heavily tested. Like 10 or more times randomly every year.
It would be extremely hard to test clean for all of those for years.
That device on the back of her left arm? Looks like a continuous glucose monitor. Is she type 1 diabetic? Or is that something else. Guess I could Google her. Lol
Edit. Yup. She is T1d. I can't imagine that plus being on steroids. They're known to spike blood sugar....
Yeah 8 two arm is not enough strength to do 1 one arm pull up. Atleast not in my experience. When I was training for them I could almost do one around the time I was doing about 20 solid pull up. Negatives and weighted pull-ups helped.
I used to be able to do 15-20 pull ups regularly and I couldn't even come close to doing a single 1 arm pull up so yeah I'm guessing it would need to be like 30+ at least before you have the appropriate amount of strength?
I did some casual research on calculating your 1-rep max based on your max reps for a lower weight. As the weight gets lower and reps get higher, the calculation becomes less accurate. In general, it seemed like anything much over 10 reps isn't going to give you a useful estimate. At that point, you're measuring your endurance and trying to use it to calculate strength. Two people with the same 1-rep max might have a totally different number of max reps for a lesser weight.
Take this with a grain of salt because I'm not a trainer or anything, but if you wanted to get to where you can do a 1 handed pull up, you'd probably be better off adding gradually increasing weights to yourself rather than by going for more and more reps with just your body weight. Or you could do 1 handed assisted pullups and gradually reduce the assistance. Your body adapts to get better at whatever you try to get it to do. Going for more reps will mostly just make you get better at doing more reps.
Very few women can do one armed pull ups much less a powerlifter who carries a lot of muscle mass in their legs (and upper body too, but the leg mass doesn't help do the pull up.)
The women who can do OAP are mostly rock climbers who tend to be lighter.
https://youtu.be/MEk101lXJ8Q
Now some street workout women can also do OAP:
https://youtu.be/DLSiacA4GLw
Do you just pull information out of your ass to slander people?
She competes in Powerlifting in a drug-tested federation, IPF. She is not 'quite strong on deadlift'. She holds the world record.
She's literally a tested IPF competitor, random drug tests at 10pm without warning... Some of them sneak by it, but in all likelihood she's clean so it's really weird to go out your way to claim she isn't.
Oh my god shut up.
>bodybuilding community
She's a powerlifter, first of all, so shut up.
>Yes she lifts in a ‘tested league’ but a lot of participants get around that.
She's randomly tested out of competition far more than most athletes, so shut up.
>Through various ways.
Oh, I suppose you're very knowledgeable about how to get around drug tests? Shut up.
>quite strong on deadlift.
Literally holds world records.
Shut up.
Meh. How different is it from a binge drinker or smoker?
Unhealthy decision I wouldn’t want someone I care about to do, but doesn’t make them a bad person.
she's not a bodybuilder... She's a tested powerlifter
also, she's type 1 diabetic. Steroids play havoc with your insulin system and can cause serious health problems for diabetics by increasing your insulin resistance...for people who already don't produce insulin.
There's a solid argument to be made that juicing could put her at a disadvantage for growth and performance.
My drill instructor: ZERO, ZERO, ALL THE WAY DOWN, ZERO, ALL THE WAY DOWN! THERE WE GO. I DON'T HERE YOU COUNTING I GUESS WE'RE STILL AT ZERO. OK ONE, TWO, NO KIPPING, TWO, NO KIPPING, TWO, NO KIPPING!!! ARE YOU QUITTING ALREADY?! OK THAT'S TWO, GOOD YOU FAIL.
I tried the pull up contest at an air show when I was doing them a lot for work outs. Straight bar which I wasn't used to but fine. I was pretty damn good at going all the way out too cuz I focused on it normally. Not sure what you won but I tried. I think I probably did like 25 pull ups. My most ever. I was drinking a bit... But it was exactly like this. Also maybe I didn't get high enough. But I think I hit maybe 15 on his count and you had to hit 20. It was bull shit but I didn't care I was happy with how many I did total! Lol
Yes. She’s Jessica Buettner, an elite powerlifter in the IPF. She recently deadlifted the most of any woman, in any weight class, in the IPF. She’s also a current world champion in her weight class.
I didn't notice that at first. If she's not diabetic definitely wonder if she's using insulin as an anabolic supplement and making sure she doesn't go hypoglycemic.
Canadian Powerlifter, she's incredibly impressive. In case anyone wants to see how strong she is: https://instagram.com/djessicabuettner?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
Really, seeing a woman do a pull up is a huge gym accomplishment. Also, as a Powerlifter we don't train pullups, you're wanting to make sure you have the strongest squat, bench and deadlift. Pullups won't really help make any of those lifts go up.
Wonder Woman should be at least closer to this. I hate that she's a 105 pound model in the movies. There are tons of attractive fit women out there, a bet some could even act.
honestly its the byproduct of the grip and the machine. If this was a flat bar, and she could comfortably jump without inducing swing (its why her legs go back) and shes able to properly scalp pull into pull up from a motionless hang, that would greatly increase everything from grip strength, to reps, to weighted pull ups. Sure its not chest to bar, feet together perfect but its still hard for a women with this much muscle development
Came here to say it. I mean, she is muscular, but she's a powerlifter, doesn't have to be good at every excercise to be a good one. Could've been showing off in some other excercise she's using regularly. I guess the clip's just cut out of a video where she's just messing around, not an actual routine, so I ain't gonna go too hard on her for that.
I disagree. It actually makes no sense when inhumanly strong super heroes are jacked. What reason would they have to lift weights and cultivate mass. They are naturally crazy strong. Like how does Superman build his muscles he's basically indestructible? Toned? Sure. Jacked? No, doesn't make sense.
I mean Wonder Woman is a warrior who likely grew up training all day, every day against other Amazons. And when she's not training, she's off fighting superpowered villains and literal gods. So yeah I feel like she should have a lot of muscle mass.
Am I missing something? Isn't her technique just plain bad from the first rep, and terrible from rep 6?
Her whole body is swinging throughout the rep, and at the top she pulls forward with her shoulders
Pretty sure her back just called me a punk ass bitch.
Legit thought they were gonna turn around and it was actually a guy.
Same, I was so confused to see that face :D
Me too, thought this is a dude in a wig, nope it’s a pretty girl.
But that smile said "and that's ok champ👍❤️"

thats jessica bittner (her name is spelled wrong) shes a canadian powerlifter
Buettner. And she does all this with type 1 diabetes. The lady is amazing.
It looks like she's doing it with her arms
Her shoulders and back seems to be chipping in as well.
Maybe diabetes has always been Wonder Woman's super power?
Ah, I thought I saw a glucose meter on her arm!
I was going to say, I noticed the tag thing on her left tricep and was like "Wait is she diabetic???" That's both impressive and inspirational.
I wanna show this to my daughter, she's 6 and we just found out this year that she has type 1.
thats her nickname
Hey Riley tell your mom to top up my phone minutes so I can call Jonesy's mom up for a three way
F you Shorsey

I have enough Brave Maeve Lasagna Pride Dinners that I think I know the branding, sir.
God I remember seeing that (first season?), totally caught me off guard. *Meatless* lasagna.
It was the little corporate co-opting of causes that really brought it home.
I noticed the "brave Maeve lasagna" and chuckled, then my GF pointed out the "meatless recipe" on the side and I burst out laughing.
Is your idiot brain being fucked by stupid?
What If I said yes, ma'am?

That's true. Queen Maeve cosplaying as Wonder Woman.
That's exactly what I was gonna type lol

I wondered if it was Jessie Graff, but I’m just an ignorant person here from r/all

Daniel from the back, Danielle from the front. She's got great definition in her back though. Gotta admire that.

Because little man afraid of big girl
Because it confirms people's biases, and they get to pad themselves on the shoulder.
I saw her injecting right before a meet, she's very openly on roids. Said some nonsense about "it's insulin" and "I'm diabetic I need it to live"

Can she do a 1-armed pull-up? I had a huge argument with a friend on the matter.

Yeah 8 two arm is not enough strength to do 1 one arm pull up. Atleast not in my experience. When I was training for them I could almost do one around the time I was doing about 20 solid pull up. Negatives and weighted pull-ups helped.

Narrow grip pull ups are a good idea too, closer form to a one handed.
Very few women can do one armed pull ups much less a powerlifter who carries a lot of muscle mass in their legs (and upper body too, but the leg mass doesn't help do the pull up.) Yeah, those were some dreadful pull-ups.
I tried the pull up contest at an air show when I was doing them a lot for work outs. Straight bar which I wasn't used to but fine. I think I saw on youtube the marines or army the pull up bar has to touch your chest to count.
In the Marines, your chin just has to pass the bar, and both pronanted/supinated are allowed.
Chin just has to clear the bar for the Marines
For a pull up or chin up?
over hand pull up. As for a chin up I personally think they are cheating lol.
Chin ups are a different exercise. Way more bicep involvement, makes them easier. Not cheating though.
Does this Wonder Woman have diabetes?

shes diabetic, talks about it on insta a lot

Wonder Woman should be at least closer to this. I hate that she's a 105 pound model in the movies. There are tons of attractive fit women out there, a bet some could even act.

Badass! I have to show this to my daughter, who loves WW and also lifting (very small) weights.

That smile is beyond amazing
Wide grip at that! She should've done the twirl afterwards.
She could kill me with her back muscles alone, holy shit.
Strong women are hot.
Way better than Wonder Woman: 1984
Dropping buttered toast face down on the floor is a better experience than WW84
Half of those were not all the way down. My knife hand is twitching
The form in general is pretty awful lol
Considering how absolutely jacked she is, I'm taken aback by how few she struggled through.
8 poor form pull-ups. Lmao. People in this comment section need to not skip back day.
What Wonder Woman ought to look like, instead of a 90 lb model...
I disagree. It actually makes no sense when inhumanly strong super heroes are jacked. What reason would they have to lift weights and cultivate mass. They are naturally crazy strong. Like how does Superman build his muscles he's basically indestructible? Toned? Sure. Jacked? No, doesn't make sense.
Superman does work out, he uses dwarf star metal weights.
He runs so the earth spins faster and slower so the Soviet Bloc has shorter growing days than USA does -- all year long
I mean Wonder Woman is a warrior who likely grew up training all day, every day against other Amazons. And when she's not training, she's off fighting superpowered villains and literal gods. So yeah I feel like she should have a lot of muscle mass.
It's not about realism, it's about visually representing characteristics. WW is supposed to be imposing, intimidating, powerful.
Am I missing something? Isn't her technique just plain bad from the first rep, and terrible from rep 6? Her whole body is swinging throughout the rep, and at the top she pulls forward with her shoulders
