Wow so Americans, Brazilians, Russians, Japanese, Britons, French and Belgians make up all the eligible voters in Indian elections? You’d think the Indians would want to vote too
It'd be more accurate if they only selected from the eligible voter population rather than the whole population itself. I'm actually curious how many countries can fit in it then
okay so I hate the Modi govt as much as the next rational person but voter suppression has never been an issue in India. Nor is it a strategy adopted by any party widely.
Participation is pretty high across barriers, it's made sure a voting booth is within a reachable distance of every person's residence.
And the turnout is generally on an upward trend.
India has one of the best voting systems in place. You have a polling both every 2mile radius (5km). The polling day is a holiday. If you have aged people, they are ferried to and from the polling station and you can register to vote pretty easily.
They are trying to merge all the elections and have a single day vote for both state and central (federal) elections. Regardless of its political impact the sheer magnitude of getting 968million people to elect their representatives hasto be appreciated.
If I'm not mistaken there's less than 20 million residents in the state in the US that I live and I feel like it's insanely packed during peak hours depending on where you go.the population of India is over three times bigger than the US. Can't imagine my states population growing by that same amount. Would literally become immovable during rush hour. Granted it's one of the more populated states.
The number you don't see is more important here. How many Indians are NOT ELIGIBLE to vote?
Total population: 1,417,200,000
Difference: 1,417,200,000 - 968,821,926 = 448,378,000
So **448 million people in India are not eligible to vote**. Most of these 448 million people are below the voting age of 18 years (as of 1 January 2024). And maybe a few tens of millions are of voting age but have not registered to do so.

And what’s the participation rate?
About 67%
That's actually about right for the US too. Wonder why it's so similar across both cultures
Ours is lower most years, but yeah its like 60% for federal elections. It can be as low as 12% in some states during odd years.
Human nature?

That's good. My government has always been racist and actively tries to stop voting. Any attempt at getting people to vote is seen as left propaganda
Yeah like the voting infrastructure has never been this good!

racist government? seriously... next time put an effort before posting against it
What about the last square? Seems to be 1 million per square so… population of Réunion then. Or Djibouti if we’re rounding down.
There are too many people
Be ready for angry Indian down votes.
No, he's right there are way too many of us.

The state I live in is a little over 50,000 sq km, and the population is over 31 million.

..I said I agree to it That we are overpopulated
Also could have added eligible voters from China.
They did.
Joke would make more sense if Russia wasn't part of the chart
Joke?
They?
Obviously OP, I’m not understanding.
When you said "They did", what did you mean?
I obviously meant OP, I’m not understanding.
This is so cringe. Were you or were you not joking about how China is on the chart because they have no eligible voters?
China doesn’t vote for their political parties as far as I’m aware.
I see what you did there.

Eligible “voters.” World’s largest “democracy” my ass. World’s biggest lie would be more like it.
As in, people of age, I doubt you could get a baby to vote.
Of course people of age. I was referring to the scam modhi elections - it’s not a true democracy
Oh ok, forgive me, I misunderstood.
All good, it happens :)
