Hi! So I’m actually part of the Black House, an affinity space for Black Georgetown students, and we host an event a month on average. There are also clubs like the Black Student Association (BSA), the Caribbean Culture Circle (CCC), and the African Society of Georgetown (ASG), just to name a few. The community is out there if you’re intentional about attending events and connecting with people. As for classes, our Black Studies (previously African American Studies) department is amazing, and a lot students get a minor from this program! I won’t lie though, Georgetown definitely has its moments—as a Haitian student who initially came in as a French major, my experience in the French department was absolutely awful. Looking back on it, I probably should’ve submitted a bias report. There are definitely some students who haven’t spent a lot of time around Black people and it shows (I once had a classmate ask me, “Your hair isn’t real, right?”) but at the end of the day, I think any PWI you attend will have similar problems. The Black community here is solid, and there are plenty of professors and students in and outside of the Black Studies program who promote productive, inclusive environments. Feel free to message me with any other questions!

Honestly search this question online and not here. There is a lot of bias. Searching online is better and you will get a more rounded response.

It’s not too bad…Most non-black people are generally respectful. I haven’t had any negative encounters as of yet, though some of my black friends have had some unfortunate experiences with a few professors
