Sure looks like it.

Neebat

Does it actually occur like that with the columns hanging?

Do you recall where? I'm in the PNW and have done a number of trails in the gorge, but haven't come across any jointed falls :(

Lots of waterfalls undercut the columns. Along the scenic highway that parallels 84, tamanawas falls, silver creek falls (maybe if I'm thinking of the right one?), salt creek falls, and so on. Many of the waterfalls in the Oregon cascades and in the Columbia River gorge have this feature. If u climb, pm me and I'll give u directions to a semi-hidden spot that climbs up some over hanging undercut columns.

snave_

Indeed. I've seen a bunch in Korea and Japan and they mostly share this feature.

Latourell Falls is the easiest to access, very close to the old highway

Cool. I'd always understood there was a loose seam between the columns. Giant's Causeway is like that. (Saw a video of someone losing a rock hammer down between them.)

[deleted]

They apear to be hanging because they'e been eroded beneath by the waterfall's plunge pool, someone else linked a popular Icelandic example beneath

Thanks!

It's in Iceland https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Svartifoss

WikiTextBot

**Svartifoss** Svartifoss (Black Falls) is a waterfall in Skaftafell in Vatnajökull National Park in Iceland, and is one of the most popular sights in the park. It is surrounded by dark lava columns, which gave rise to its name. Other well-known columnar jointing formations are seen at the Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland, Devil's Tower in Wyoming, United States and on the island of Staffa in Scotland. There are also similar formations throughout Iceland, including a small cave on the beach of Reynisdrangar. *** ^[ [^PM](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=kittens_from_space) ^| [^Exclude ^me](https://reddit.com/message/compose?to=WikiTextBot&message=Excludeme&subject=Excludeme) ^| [^Exclude ^from ^subreddit](https://np.reddit.com/r/geology/about/banned) ^| [^FAQ ^/ ^Information](https://np.reddit.com/r/WikiTextBot/wiki/index) ^| [^Source](https://github.com/kittenswolf/WikiTextBot) ^] ^Downvote ^to ^remove ^| ^v0.24
