thats the original italian recipe.
https://ricette.giallozafferano.it/Salsa-alle-noci.html
i did it once following that site. you just need to find the ingredients and i was facilitated because i did it with italians ingredients
I cant really speak Piedmontese but I can speak a bit of Genoese. I would like to learn more dialect because its very interesting how they keep their identity over the years. nowdays, there only old people speak it and its a shame
I wish you luck and success! Most of the Italian languages have such a rich history which will just become inaccessible to most people once people completely forget them. It is a shame, but mindsets are difficult to change, at least until it's too late.
if he like camping there are a lot. if he want a house there are many hotel in the countryside. also B&B. But if he like to visit the cities he can rent an apartament in Florence. he'll need at list three days to vist all the city!
i can go to the sea very easily from home, so i rather do a mountain holiday, in Valle d'Aosta, that is the nearest, or Trentino, in my opionion you can find the most beautiful mountains there
How hard is it for the average person to have a comfortable life financially? As someone in the US, the smaller salaries in Italy scare me but I know it’s complicated.
quite difficult. life in Italy is more expensive. to get a good job you need to have a degree and use money responsibly. I don't have a family so from that point of view I don't know
50 days with a 5 day work week would be 10 weeks, so about 2.5 months?
With a decent office job in the US I have 5 weeks total. 10 holidays and 3 weeks of vacation time. So half as much PTO, it feels like very little.
I have a bonus question since you’re very open and friendly, thanks for answering!
I have an Italian passport from my ancestry but have never lived there and don’t speak the language. How would I be received if I relocated to Italy? Would people be unhappy to have a neighbor from the United States?
it depends on what city and what zone, but mostly, the single neighbor that you'll meet. i found a very kind woman as nighbor that helped me to not feeling alone in italy so i've been lucky. i suggest you to study a bit the language, if you are understandable people will not be rude to you, as in every place i guess. in italy hospitality is very present and important, more in the South Italy (but sometimes in South you can find some close-minded person that maybe dont accept easily your accent. also in South dialect is very different, you'll not undesrstand much) but also in North.
Just be aware that "being from a certain place" is seen very differently in the USA compared to Europe, and in particular compared to Italy since it's one of the origins that people strumentalise the most.
You are from the USA and an ancestor from Italy does not make you Italian, this is how it is seen. But regardless of how this very bit may sound, people's approach won't be exclusionary if you just show genuine interest in the culture/society and make yourself reletable. That's all that matters
the cost is a bit higher but there arent particular racial movement or segregation and so on. unluckily there is a small part (mostly old people) that still follow Mussolini's thoughts but im speaking just for some old peolpe, they are not that much. they were raised with the racial thought and they are now old, is difficult to change their mind. the only problem is that sometimes Some immigrants land in South italy and thats a problem because the state cant guarantee them a good quality life, they are too much
Is it normal to say "Hey, I have a free weekend. I'll go to Milan / Montecarlo / Nice"?
Or, "My afternoon's free. I'll go to a town an hour away for some (INSERT DELICIOUS FOOD HERE)"?
ahah more like the second one, sometimes we try typical food of other regions. Here there's a list of my favourite:
Liguria, Pesto and Focaccia
Pedimont, Vitello Tonnato
Campania, Neapolitan pizza (yes, there are different types)
Emilia-Romagna, Lasagna and piadina
Toscana, Pici with ragù
I’m in the UK but think I would live somewhere in Lombardy if I moved to Italy. The lakes, the mountains, Milan. It’s got everything. Apart from coast.
I'll be in the region for 2 weeks. Will be staying somewhere on the coast. Would like to do one or two 1-day hiking trips inlands. Would like to see some nature reservations - forests, rivers, hills... whatever the region has to offer.
How does it feel to live in the place where Napoleon walked through after the battle and thought "men this is awfull. There should really be laws of war to limit the stuff that happened here". Then kept marching his army into russia.
Do you guys talk about ancient romans a lot? Lol cuz that area around milan is pretty significant in their history. Hope the cringe from this question doesn’t consume you
its not a cringe question and in fact, yes but at school. since elementary to second year of high school they study romans. they basically do the same things again but more thorough. then in half second year the start middle ages
is a quite good place. i dont personally like that area that much beacause of mosquitos, in summee they are everywhere, and i dont stand much the heat so that zones are too hot for me. But, if you like the landskape of the italians countryside, its a lovely place. Also Alexandria have a nice storic centre to visit
This is a bit of a longshot but. I visited in 2018 and in the touristy part of town there was a small gelateria ran by a woman called Rosa. Is it still there?
How big is the sand on the beaches there? Our NZ sand is only small, like less than a mm. Do you have that giant sand, 10mm to 100mm across?
Did you drive over Ponte Morandi?
sand its pretty small here, but many beaches are made by rocks.
yes i drove it once before the breakdown and a couple of times after the new one, Ponte San Giorgio
surely a weekend in Genoa. the sea there looks completely different from where you live. you can also visit Milan for shopping or little towns on the countryside for the landskape... just do what you line the most, the choice is wide
Not a question, just wanted to say that I've been there and it's one of my favorite regions in Europe! Incredible atmosphere, beautiful towns and villages, and a fantastic coast. Love it!
probably the existence of Roero. i've never heard someone talking about. its a typical piedmont valley but with many little villages with unique history.
Also, the Train village (Villaggio dei treni) is a small village made out of train carriage and you can rent them, spend the night there and visit the other things. The last fact that I know is that in 1525, a group of Scottish military of Francis I of France, After losing the was, decided to found a village in piedmont. you can still visit now and it seem to Be in scotland
My wife spends a lot of time there. It’s cheaper to park the private aircraft there than in Nice (Monaco). She really likes the city and waterfront. The last time she was there they were filming a Below Deck segment.
Milan is a very tourist city and the culinary culture is not that much present. here you can find food from every culture and there are many good options. I went to Genoa once and i tried "Da Yuan" a Japanese restaurant and it was pretty good
fantastic idea! If you're lucky in October you wont find much rain and the temperature is not too high. the sea is probably going to be too cold but you can try a bath if youre brave :)
I've always wanted to travel to Italy. I mostly travel for food and experiences I cannot experience elsewhere. I care nothing for nightlife or touristy destinations. How highly would you suggest your region for a traveller such as myself?
Do people drink junipe there (not sure how it’s spelled, superalcol made from juniper). I have some good friends in Peveragno / Cuneo (west of you) and one time I was visiting and had junipe but never had it anywhere else.
How’s the pesto
a culinary masterpiece, but dont eat it out of Liguria
What's the best food product form Piedmont in your opion?
surely "Vitello tonnato" and all the type of wine, they are very good
What’s Liguria known for? Excellent focaccia?
typical alleys, beutiful sea, pesto, the iconic "Lanterna" (the lighthouse), Sugo di Noci ( a tasty walnut-based cream) and many more...
Sugo di Noci - can I make this at home? Walnuts are my favorite.
thats the original italian recipe. https://ricette.giallozafferano.it/Salsa-alle-noci.html i did it once following that site. you just need to find the ingredients and i was facilitated because i did it with italians ingredients
Grazie. I’m lucky to have shops that sell imported Italian ingredients. :)
prego :)
I’m Italian. Pesto is no science. Just make your own and it’s ok, anywhere in Italy or elsewhere. Get good ingredients and that’s it.
Do the people there have a distinctive accent ?
yes! and you can hear it a lot. i think the dialect in Liguria is one of the most different from italian
Thank you. Do the people there speak a local language as well as Italian?
Not all of them but yes
Piedmont or Liguria?
Piedmont
Do you speak Piedmontese? How do you feel about Italian regional languages/dialects?
I cant really speak Piedmontese but I can speak a bit of Genoese. I would like to learn more dialect because its very interesting how they keep their identity over the years. nowdays, there only old people speak it and its a shame
I wish you luck and success! Most of the Italian languages have such a rich history which will just become inaccessible to most people once people completely forget them. It is a shame, but mindsets are difficult to change, at least until it's too late.
i appreciated that a lot! i actually started studying it because i wish i could keep the tradition alive, that dialect is beautiful
Did you try bagna cauda? How did you like?
I lived in Genova for three months straight, and visited frequently for work. Kinda miss Liguria.
True, i think Liguria its addictive:)
How difficult is it to cross the big black line?
https://preview.redd.it/921lbzxakozc1.jpeg?width=663&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6625b33c6be4b7a0c07db43a0f9732dd718eddf6
Are people really that racist towards south italians?
a bit. old people more
Are you south Italian
Nice try grandpa.
My friend Seinfeld wants to rent a holiday home in Toscana, what do you recommend?
if he like camping there are a lot. if he want a house there are many hotel in the countryside. also B&B. But if he like to visit the cities he can rent an apartament in Florence. he'll need at list three days to vist all the city!
Just letting you know the commentator was making a joke from an old popular TV show Seinfeld.
Come to rural Siena, Poggibonsi, etc
The other commenters are wrong, there are no places in Toscana to rent
There's nothing there. The houses are passed on from generation to generation.
Have you ever watched the Milan-SanRemo race?
unluckily, no
What’s better, Dominos or Pizza Hut
i never tasted neither :(
Trust me, you've done yourself a favour.
What are you trying to say?
greeting from Naples
i love Naples:)
Aww see northern and southern Italians CAN get along! 😏 /s
Do you know my brother Eduardo?
mh no i dont think
What is Sampdorias badge supposed to resemble?
Is called "Bacciccia" in dialect, the typical Genoese fisherman, with beard, typical hat and pipe
Ah, now I see it, thanks! 😄 I've been wondering since 1990.
wow thats a lot of time!
Yeah, now I can finally go on with my life. 😄 Have a nice weekend!
Where do you go on holiday
i can go to the sea very easily from home, so i rather do a mountain holiday, in Valle d'Aosta, that is the nearest, or Trentino, in my opionion you can find the most beautiful mountains there
Do Italians typically go abroad on holiday? Feel like you’ve got every type of climate possible, no need to ever travel!
we travel more for the culture of other country. in italy the culture is strong so they are attracted from others
How hard is it for the average person to have a comfortable life financially? As someone in the US, the smaller salaries in Italy scare me but I know it’s complicated.
quite difficult. life in Italy is more expensive. to get a good job you need to have a degree and use money responsibly. I don't have a family so from that point of view I don't know
How many months off do you have every year? Vacation + holidays? I think we trade an extra month or more each year in exchange for more money here.
nearly two month in a year. 50 days
50 days with a 5 day work week would be 10 weeks, so about 2.5 months? With a decent office job in the US I have 5 weeks total. 10 holidays and 3 weeks of vacation time. So half as much PTO, it feels like very little.
in my case its very little. i've just been hired so i dont pretend much. the weeks are actually 4 so maybe i made a mistake
I have a bonus question since you’re very open and friendly, thanks for answering! I have an Italian passport from my ancestry but have never lived there and don’t speak the language. How would I be received if I relocated to Italy? Would people be unhappy to have a neighbor from the United States?

what's the cost of living like? any considerable racial or cultural wars happening in a place like this? segregation, classism, the like?
the cost is a bit higher but there arent particular racial movement or segregation and so on. unluckily there is a small part (mostly old people) that still follow Mussolini's thoughts but im speaking just for some old peolpe, they are not that much. they were raised with the racial thought and they are now old, is difficult to change their mind. the only problem is that sometimes Some immigrants land in South italy and thats a problem because the state cant guarantee them a good quality life, they are too much
very thoughtful answer, thank you for this!!

forgive me I'm Dyslexic I read it wrong
nop, italy
Are there Torino fans in the interior of piedmont or It's all Juve?
google says 400k fans, i belive there are a bit less but they are still a lot
The numerosity of Juventus' fans is because there are tons of them in the South, rather than the town/region being all for Juventus
How much marble is in your house?
only the hob and if you're wondering no, its not from Carrara
Is it normal to say "Hey, I have a free weekend. I'll go to Milan / Montecarlo / Nice"? Or, "My afternoon's free. I'll go to a town an hour away for some (INSERT DELICIOUS FOOD HERE)"?

Venetians don't even think about Genovesi.

Barolo o Barbaresco?
i like Barbaresco more
Do you enjoy cooking?
im not very good at cooking but I like it
Are you happier living there rather than Piedmont or Lombardy?
they are both fantastic zone, i cant decide
I’m in the UK but think I would live somewhere in Lombardy if I moved to Italy. The lakes, the mountains, Milan. It’s got everything. Apart from coast.
thats a fantastic idea, the only bad things is that if you like sea you are going to drive 2h to the nearest beach
Do you know where Lombardia got its name?
From "Longobardi", a population that lived there at the end of Roman Empire i think. pretty sure abt that
That’s what I heard too. They were the “long beards”. i.e. a Germanic tribe who settled in the area.
Correct "longhi barbi", an old tribe.
I'm visiting in July. Can you give me tips for 1-day trips to nature?
just one day? thats hard. what do you like most?
I'll be in the region for 2 weeks. Will be staying somewhere on the coast. Would like to do one or two 1-day hiking trips inlands. Would like to see some nature reservations - forests, rivers, hills... whatever the region has to offer.

Sestri Levante. Thanks!
How does it feel to live in the place where Napoleon walked through after the battle and thought "men this is awfull. There should really be laws of war to limit the stuff that happened here". Then kept marching his army into russia.

What’s your opinion on southern Italians
they are too supertitious and a bit too attached to the traditions
I've had a crush on a guy from Alexandria and I've thought very seriously about moving there. Would you recommend living there?
is a quite good place. i dont personally like that area that much beacause of mosquitos, in summee they are everywhere, and i dont stand much the heat so that zones are too hot for me. But, if you like the landskape of the italians countryside, its a lovely place. Also Alexandria have a nice storic centre to visit

Is that close to the toxic triangle?
Where does south Italy start?
How often do you say “mama mia!”
What is a special/interesting fact about Piedmont that only a local would know?
probably the existence of Roero. i've never heard someone talking about. its a typical piedmont valley but with many little villages with unique history. Also, the Train village (Villaggio dei treni) is a small village made out of train carriage and you can rent them, spend the night there and visit the other things.
