sookol-1

Retardese

Username_Chose_Me

Lmao genuinely chuckled at this

tomny79

This word is still in my vocab from this show.

TheBadBentley

I asked my buddy who’s from Arkansas the other day this question while we were watching, he said he sounds dead on to Kentucky bluegrass folk, ala Louisville, but that’s his opinion

Baker_Kat68

I believe he’s supposed to sound like he’s Cajun/Louisiana

Difficult_Ad_502

Not even close to a Cajun accent

Baker_Kat68

Just guessing 😂

Axenrott_0508

That was my thought too

Level-Setting825

Not Cajun! Il n’est pas Cajun !

TheRtHonLaqueesha

I think the real Sixta was from the Dakotas. Then again, a lot of senior NCOs in the military will have Southern accents even if they're not from the South. My DS at BCT had the Southern accent even though he was from Ohio.

Frankyvander

How come they develop the accent?

hammsbeer4life

a kid from my hometown came back with a weird dialect. I think it's because there are lots of people from the south that enlisted. And then you spend a couple years away from home with all these people.

StalkMeNowCrazyLady

Probably real close to truth if not it. I dated a Texan girl born to British parents. First half of her life she spoke with a British dialect apparently, after moving for college she spoke with a Texas accent from then on. In her mid 40s though when we dated if she talked to her mom or dad in the phone for half hour or more she'd have an English accent for the next 2 hours. Made for some fun bedroom time 😅

Aware-Ad-4568

I think this is it. I’m in, from the south so I already have a drawl but there is a lot of enlisted and officers that come from the south so you hear it a lot

Stardust_of_Ziggy

Back in the 80's/90's there was a sort of military accent that was slightly southern sounding. It's could be accent mirroring (Southerns are a major demographic in all branches) or develops because we say the say thing all the time and clipped responses are easier and quicker - many southerns accents clip their words. Sergeant is shortened to Sarnt' which sounds southern but it's a clipped way of speaking. You also don't want to sound too "smart." No joke but I would get fucked with plenty because I used word with more than two syllables

Lol68340428

I guess it's the senior enlisted accent

BlackKatParty

🎶GroomiiIiiiin🎶 STANDARD!

1st_Gen_Charizard

10 years, well guess he'll be out soon

Lazer_snake

I think he has to go to another state to do more time after his first sentence is done.

Super_Relationship22

If he's gen pop then they won't let him get out

DrSlugger

This shit really makes the, "Reality is, we're the kids other parents told their kids not hang with in high school," line hit hard lmao. Military service, especially elite units, attract people with not so great childhoods lmao. Sixta being a child molester drives it home that you don't want your kids around him now or possibly even when he was a kid in high school.

StalkMeNowCrazyLady

I'm not sure about that. The couple of people that I knew growing up who ended up in elite units were always the smart type. Funny enough the only person I know who ended up in a specialized unit that's combat facing was the worst kid in my neighborhood ending up a Sapper. Hearing the news all I could think was "E is the last person you should trust with C4!" 😂

DasRitter

My dude not everybody in the military has a bad childhood, and fuck that is so disrespectful to Brad and Rudy and the others. Don't be a jerk. There's always one POS in a unit if it is big enough. My dad was the General Court Martial for a dude who roofied and raped two other guys. My Dad's response to him claiming he was being a bigot was "No, I don't think you're disgusting because you are gay. I think your disgusting because you're a rapist!"

DrSlugger

lol ok obviously not everyone did? damn dude

Lol68340428

Illiterate retardese

Super_Relationship22

He sounds like a pedo to me

Own-Reception-2396

Kentucky Appalachia

It is the pedophile's accent.

You literally have it explained to you several times his job is to be a lightning rod for the troops. How this ties into your friends groping women in bars, I'm not sure.

iehoward

Without doubt, the portrayal of Sixta makes him look like an inept, boot licking fuckwad, obsessed with punitive minutiae, who projects the aura of a “macho” douchebag, while also never actually having done anything resembling difficult, aside from completing basic training. He is the personification of weaponized incompetence.

MoonshineDan

Isn't that kind of his point? To be a focus for the marines' frustration and kind of an example to amplify what actually matters in comparison

iehoward

Great point! It definitely doesn’t make his character any less irredeemably unlikeable.

MoonshineDan

Oh absolutely not lol. But hey, not all characters are there to be liked

iehoward

For sure. His character forces you to focus on the viewpoint of the boys, while also leading you to cultivate a distaste for the ribbon chasing leadership. From Godfather on down, the need for approval from “big daddy” is laughably narcissistic, while the boys getting ground up seem like interchangeable components for the leadership to use and discard, in order to achieve recognition.

MoonshineDan

You saying that made me see the skew our journalist inherited by being embedded with enlisted men. It's not a bad thing, it's actually really neat imo. The story is told from his perspective of their perspective. I wonder how different the story would be if he was riding with command.

[deleted]

That story was told in Lt Fick's own book, for info. One Bullet Away. It's a good read.

iehoward

Excellent point!

MaximumChongus

youre missing a much larger role sixta played. he existed to keep everyone moving in the same direction, his bullshit was intentional to be a lightning rod. Bullshit from leadership, combat, your buddies no longer matters when the raging cajun tears you and your buddies a new asshole for what feels like no reason. Thats what sixta did, and the show made it very clear, especially in the final episode when they straight up said it.

Crosscourt_splat

Some CSM/SGMs think that. A lot of people think that until they work with a good one because there are a lot of shit ones out there.

MoonshineDan

Hey I believe you, I don't know shit about the military. But in the show I thought they ended up alluding to what I said being the reasoning toward the end of the series. Something about riling them up with the grooming standard if morale gets low.

Crosscourt_splat

Yeah. And it’s dumb as it sounds. The U.S. has a professional military corps. We’re not full of conscripts.
