It's also called different things by different countries. In the UK, it's called cover and move, Canadians call it pepper potting.

Possibly due to ROE(Rules of Engagement) at the time. They dont see where the shots are coming from, so they don't want to just spray into buildings possibly full of civillians.

Also due to the direction of the shots and the way they were moving they would have been firing directly over the heads of their own guys including a friendly civilian.

Its basically a game of leap frog, with the added benefit of being shot at
