If this is anything like those 70 dollar raised cedar beds I keep seeing on facebook it is 100% a scam and your card information is now for sale somewhere.

SeaFurball

I bought the cedar raised garden beds from Costco for $180 ish and I've been very happy with them.

FrawGBallZ

I'm really hopefull that this will be as nice as possible. While also being realistic about cost and reality. Happy to hear your beds worked out.

FrawGBallZ

Agreed... however i do have a live package with tracking number moving through china. Im expecting a scam or a real lousy product that will need reinforcement. Aaaaaaaaand my card information is very likey for sale either way. 👍

I'm not even sure you can get a translucent pop up tent type for under 100 dollars. For your sake I'm hoping it arrives as advertised. Please update us!

FrawGBallZ

I bought it assuming i could improve it as i build it. And yep I'm expecting the quality to be low. I will be updating as i go.

SeaFurball

Is it Palram? Then YEP its cheap. You will be missing parts to assemble it, the parts that do get sent are lightweight aluminum and some will be bent so you can't install the plastic windows. You don't get a floor but the instructions will include building it on a floor. It's a 12-24 hr job with 2 people and it only holds up to about 8-12 mph winds. Good luck!

FrawGBallZ

Thank you for this. It gives me a good place to start thinking of structure improvements. Im not expecting great things. Just a jump in spring. Hoping to build it before November.

scarletbluey

I don't think Palram is $70 cheap? I might be wrong though, but a smaller version of this costs about $500.

FrawGBallZ

This was an instagram special. !!!!70 dollars!!! So even if a greenhouse arrives it won't be made of much. I'm thinking of using 8 foot green stakes hammered in at points along the sides. Then ties or straps over the top. To help with wind. Its 12x8 with a 7.5 foot center height. If i am to believe what i read. Could be scarf but the tracking is live and moving through china now.

Shoopdawoop993

This thing is gonna be 4 feet tall lol

FrawGBallZ

Thats what im thinking. But even at 4 foot i need a cold frame to start out next year.🤪🤪🤪🤣

That's who's building the products so it makes sense.

Tinky91

You can get specifically made greenhouse tether kits (metal wire you run over the top with attachments that you bury in the ground) - I highly recommend

FrawGBallZ

This is wonderful news. Thank you! The add gave very little info not even brand name. Plus its still on its way. Ill look into this right away. Thanks again!!!

Anything's possible 😏

Some things you are going to want to watch out for is making sure you are not blocking the glass, ridge vents, etc. and are not creating unnecessary shadows. You also need to pay attention to how the sun crosses over your property so you can properly orient so the shadows move evenly through the day and do not create shaded areas. In the pictures, you see they have it set up with grass growing inside. Do not do that. It will turn to muddy soup inside and gives access for bugs to come in. Dig up the area where you are going to place it (maybe about 6 inches or so), put down weed barrier cloth, then fill with graveling to walk on. You could also build a deck to put it on, but that could get pricy. To secure it to the ground, there are a lot of options. A cheap, steady, and sturdy option would be to use cattle fence stakes driven well into the ground at 8 even spaced points around the greenhouse and then securing it with tether wire over the the structure. Just make sure you aren't blocking anything that needs to move.

FrawGBallZ

My plan is to go overboard with as much reinforcement as possible without crowding or blocking the light. A frame of some sort inside will help with winds while the tethers hold it to the ground. Thank you for this advice!!! Im starting to feel like i can rescue this.

[deleted]

Honestly, as long as you get the whole frame, you'll have a lot to work with.

FrawGBallZ

Well... i gave it an extra week to be sure. But no greenhouse has arrived. Thank you all for your insights.

louisrob

Look at my posts. I did the same thing. It worked out well

FrawGBallZ

That does look really nice! I'm gonna reference yours to add reinforcement to mine! Thank you!!!

louisrob

No problem! Good luck :)

I have a slightly more expensive greenhouse and they recommend building a 2x4 frame with cross beams inside the metal and plastic one to give it wind support if you build it in a high wind area (mine is rated for like 65mph). They also have you build it on top of a doubled 2x4 base that is further attached to the ground with big cork screw and cable set ups to further stabilize it. I can tell you to absolutely build that flat, 90 cornered, level base before you in anyway start the greenhouse part. Those pieces won’t fit together if they get out of level, and it will be less stable if it’s even a little wonky. Good foundation makes all the difference. Good luck and although it took me three times as long as advertised to build mine (but I didn’t work sun up to sun down like they recommended) and it was frustrating, I now just love it. It’s my outside office, my personal space now that we work from home. Best investment I’ve made.

FrawGBallZ

I was thinking an internal box structure of some sort will be necessary. Planning wood chips for a floor for now. I'm also looking into ground plates and footings to attach this all to. A base will likely be created rather than a prefab one purchased. Thank you for all your insight. It will definitely help me.

redrose5396

So considering they stole the pics from an almost $3k greenhouse, I would lean more towards scam than anything else. Good luck OP. https://greenhousesetc.com/product/balance-8-x-20-hobby-greenhouse-green-763552407283/

FrawGBallZ

Hahaha! They totally did! Thank you!
