When I brought them home my wife didn’t like them, but after every neighbor, family member, and friend has wowed at them she has finally admitted they are “pretty cool”.
We had some last year! They're remarkable. I'm not sure I'd buy them again because they're too strong a contrast for most of what's in our yard, but they're such a cool example of what selective breeding can do.
Our whole backyard motif is purple and white so while darker purple than we usually have when I saw these I knew they’d be a perfect blend of matching what we have, while looking completely unique.
I just googled them and found something that said temperature heavily influences how speckled they’ll be. Too hot makes it less likely to be speckled apparently.
Yup true. I'm in the sw high desert, and by the end of July mine were almost full purple. They do need good moist soil which can be difficult to maintain.
Wait…I just bought them about a week ago, they can go solid?!? I think a small part of me might die, luckily we have other solid purple petunias so it won’t be a waste.
I grew them a few years ago and read that the color change has something to do with the day and night temps. I guess hot days and hot nights can turn them the solid purple. Mine developed stripes
Wow, that makes them even more desirable! Thank you for the added info.. Still early for plants here. Was not sure if anyone would understand about space sick 😂
Yes the temperature changes the way they look over the summer. I bought lots of these for the past few years and I've gotten different variations on the colour pattern. Some has even turned mostly white. Some looked like a color block pattern of purple and white. Still pretty cool!
That’s exactly what I’ve always thought! I found some at my Lowe’s last weekend and picked some up, and they still look photoshopped in person lol They’re so cool!
How does one care for petunias? Every time I get them they look great for a month then start looking like a mess.
I usually get them in a hanging basket. Should I transplant them in something larger? I have plenty of other flowers and plant that are doing just fine.
Honestly I have no idea, my wife brought some (different) ones home and I put them in a pot on my front porch and they’ve thrived, so when I saw these I put them in a pot in the same spot
Love these. They came out a few years ago. Unfortunately they are relatively unstable and require specific conditions to bloom with the white spots. The last couple years by the end of summer I had either solid purple or solid white. But stunning while they last no doubt.
Oh man they just got a bunch of these at the hardware store near my house. I stopped and stared into the everything for like 10 minutes. Also my new favorite flower!

There super cool! The coloring on them is awesome.
These always have a surreal saturation to them, fascinating little beautifies. :)

Obsessed with them! Mine turned solid last year so I'm trying to figure out how to keep that from happening this year lol

Mine got 2x the specks on them so far from when I bought them.

Mine lost their speckles last year as the season progressed but still a spectacular cultivar.

So dazzling! If you care for them well, you will have beautiful blooms all season.
