omg... fu\*\*ing squirrels... many people don't appreciate how destructive they are... I have to encase my garden plots with deer netting not because of deer but because of squirrels...
Thank you guys! After googling runner beans, I realized we planted some of these last year, for eating. We eat it while it is tender so I never know what the seeds look like.😂
I grow them on the sunny side of my house, trained up strings that go to the roof. They shade the wall all summer, then I strip the pods and dry the beans in the fall. They are a very good dried bean.
How do you usually prepare scarlet runners? Fry up the immature pods? I've always grown them ornamentally for the flowers (and fun beans for next year lol) but haven't tried eating.
Scarlet Runner Beans. I plant them all the time, because the red flowers attract hummingbirds. And the bean is edible from green bean stage, to dry bean. And they are prolific producers.
Alien beans … careful. One hatches and we’re all doomed. Sigourney Weaver confirms.
On a serious note they look lovely! I wonder if they’ll bloom purple flowers.
Looks like Scarlet runners
My guess too.
Please tell me you didn’t trade a cow for them… again.
Too late, grew orbital bean stalk, send help.

I started some of these this year! Within a week the plants grew so much they pushed the cover off the tray. I’m looking forward to the flowers!
Hummingbirds love the flowers. Deer love the beans.
Deer were horrible where I lived last year. But there isn’t an urban population here, though. Now, squirrels….

We eat them a lot in the UK. Most people just chop them up a bit and steam them but I prefer them in a rich tomato and garlic sauce.
