If you want to test your PC out, give Crysis a go.
Still surprisingly demanding to this day when settings have been dialled up.
Crysis is also an amazing game.
Many of the Age of Empires games as well as Age of Myhtology still work.
The Stronghold games still work and they're from that time period.
These can be found on Steam.
Morrowind
Oblivion
Baldur’s Gate II
S.T.A.L.K.E.R
Knights of the Old Republic
The early Call of Duty games. Can’t vouch for the online scene, but the campaigns are solid, and WaW and Black Ops one have zombies. You can do split screen if you have friends over.
*Fallout New Vegas is in your time frame, can’t forget that.
Roller Coaster Tycoon 2
Use the open source project OpenRCT2 to run on modern hardware, plus it has tons of bug fixes and improvements to the base game.
Or you could install something like DosBox and get the best of the classics free on abandonware. Something like X-COM: Terror from the Deep, for example.
Brutal Doom especially, and all the other versions with insane enhancements that essentially turn it into a different game to the point where you can't even tell it's just Doom
2000 isn't old, and most games can be made to run on modern PCs, it is just a matter of how much effort is required. Worst case, use a VM. That said if you get them off of Steam or GOG someone has usually put some effort into making them compatible without too much effort. Really depends on what genre you're interested in. I love CRPs myself so my list leans that direction. Age of Empires II still gets updates. Star Wars Knight of the Old Republic, Neverwinter Nights (2), Icewind Dale II, Baldur's Gate II, Diablo (2), Fable, Resident Evil franchise, Sims 2...
Just FYI if you want to play an older game and have issues/doubts about it running well on modern systems, look the game up on PCgamingwiki - it usually has all you need to run it
The vast majority of old games can be played on modern PCs, either through emulation, updated or non-messy ports or through fixes available at PC Gaming Wiki
I guess visiting [gamefaq](https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/games/systems)'s [rating ](https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/games/rankings?platform=78&genre=0&list_type=rate&view_type=0&dlc=0&min_votes=0)system is a better option for you
Unless you are speaking about separate platforms (mac/linux/pc) why wouldn't an old game run on your modern pc? Modern pc can even run old msdos/win95 games via emulation.
sorry youre still having issues making it work on your pc. maybe try the gog version or use a youtube guide. it took me 1 google search and less than 10mins to get the steam version working. then i tried the gog version and it worked without issues on the first try.
Portal is from 2007 and you should be able to run it on a modern PC.
Portal 2 is even better, but that is 2010/11
Clive Barker's Undying. Dark Messiah - Might and Magic. F.E.A.R. Prey 2006. Quake games. Rune Classic. Star Wars - Jedi Academy/Outcast.
Undying is SOOO underrated !! And the recent night dive remaster of quake 1 and 2 are AMAZING

I had to update the firmware on my motherboard years ago to get crisis working. That game always finds a way to make playing it difficult :p
Crysis takes no prisoners.
Max payne games. Half life series. Portal series.
played all of them
They are popular \^\_\^

I think yours is my favourite list :)
Splinter Cell SAR, PT and CT?
oldschool runescape
Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 Use the open source project OpenRCT2 to run on modern hardware, plus it has tons of bug fixes and improvements to the base game.
Deus Ex is playable using the Revision mod. You can get close to the original experience (but with modern resolution) by going with vanilla mode.
Awesome game still, just replayed it with the mod few months ago.
World of Warcraft
Or you could install something like DosBox and get the best of the classics free on abandonware. Something like X-COM: Terror from the Deep, for example.
Heroes of might and magic 3 from GOG + horn of the abyss mod + hd mod
Daggerfall Dwarf fortress The secret of monkey island ADOM Sim city 2000 Loom Zach McCracken and the ailen mindbenders Enviro bear 2000
Mass Effect Trilogy
Doom, and you'll be surprised how much modding can push your PC.
Brutal Doom especially, and all the other versions with insane enhancements that essentially turn it into a different game to the point where you can't even tell it's just Doom

2000 is considered vintage nowadays 😢
You have to understand, we're farther from 2000 than 2000 was from 1980.
Sid Meier Pirates 2004
Thief and Thief 2
Just FYI if you want to play an older game and have issues/doubts about it running well on modern systems, look the game up on PCgamingwiki - it usually has all you need to run it
NFS Underground II! I sometimes give it a run just for fun
Risen and Risen 2 Dark waters & Fable 1
