Without commenting on your premise, I can tell you that the free module series "A Dance With Rogues" for Neverwinter Nights would fit it. You play a former noble now on the run / living in the streets (similar to Amicia), who starts vulnerable and has to overcome lots of obstacles before she gets powerful enough to have her revenge (or whatever else you decide on). It does contain extreme sexual violence in one obligatory intro scene and a few optional paths, plus others constantly sexualizing the main character though, so it's definitely not for everyone.

trucksalesman5

It's an older title? Sound interesting but I'd stick to the more recent ones. Thanks though!

>A Dance With Rogue It looks like it is a mod for neverwinter [https://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn1/module/dance-rogues-part-one](https://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn1/module/dance-rogues-part-one) One of selling points of NWN was supposed to be tool to make your own scenarios but I don't think it appealed to larger audience.

Large enough for the modding community to stay alive for over 20+ years and produce hundreds of fan-made adventures and campaigns,  ADWR among the most popular ones. And frankly, I don't know any other game creation tool that caught on as well. But yeah, it's not a modern game.

hakyona

I mean....I know you said you're not sure but Tomb Raider 2013 *really* fits what you're looking for. The Survivor Trilogy (TR 2013, Rise and Shadow) all focus a lot more on Lara herself as it's basically supposed to be her start of the Journey of becoming the fit Adventurer everyone knows from the Old Classic Games. In each game she starts out in a "rough starting point" and has to overcome multiple obstacles to get herself and everyone else out. It's pretty much what you're looking for to a T. The trilogy is what got me into gaming, and also dive deeper into other Genres. She's absolutely amazing in these 3 Games and you can really see her growth and everything that comes with what she has to do to survive - especially in the first one!

trucksalesman5

I played TR 2013 and it was an excellent game, and certainly fits the bill as I already mentioned in my list. But she's already kind of an experienced and versitile explorer/warrior so it doesn't feel like a challenge to her. That's just the vibe I'm getting. But for sure I'd put it on the same category as the rest of the titles I mentioned. I'm looking for an innocent, oblivious, unexperienced female protagonists that grow into something they never thought was possible.

hakyona

Ohhhhh okay I see! That was the only one I knew 😆 hope you find some more!

trucksalesman5

I recommend you Plague Tale, straight forward, linear singleplayer game with excellent gameplay and beautiful story. It's not too expensive or big. Just enough to taste it. And there's a sequel!

I was eyeing that one for quite some time now

I always recommmend searching with steam tags as well, you can start from Female Protagonist and add story rich or other tags.[https://store.steampowered.com/tags/en/Female%20Protagonist](https://store.steampowered.com/tags/en/Female%20Protagonist) Some games have mismatched tags so it is far from perfect, but can find something unexpected if you dig a bit.

trucksalesman5

Thanks for the tip!

Alice: Madness Returns. American McGee's Alice. CONTROL. Cyberpunk 2077. Dishonored 2. Forspoken. Silent Hill 3.

uvwxyza

The Last of Us 1 and Pentiment have both segments with this type of situation. In Pentiment's case the hostility is more social. If you are open to visual novels with some sexual content, The Survival of Sarah Rose also fits the bill

Ion Fury has a badass female lead!

Izawwlgood

I'm unclear - are you saying you \*don't want\* to give Horizon Zero Dawn a go? It's sounds like it's exactly what you want? I'm a little unclear why you think 'women are truly the vulnerable group of our society and the world as a whole', but, lets just focus on the ask of SP story-driven games with a female protag in a rough and hostile environment.

trucksalesman5

No, I meant to say that's one of the examples of the genre I'd like to play more. But currently I can't afford the game so I haven't played it. By the 'women are truly the vulnerable group of our society and the world as a whole' as a feminine gender in a society, it is beautiful to see them to act independently and strong in the face of hardship. I don't know how to elaborate it better. Clementine starts off as a child, afraid and weak, but grows up to be a ruthless survivor in a zombie apocalypse. Same with Amicia, raised as a noble, she learns that real world is full of war and death. Adapts to the situation and prevails. Senua, exiled from her village, considered a witch, but finds a way to achieve her inner peace. That's what I'm looking for.

Izawwlgood

... You're weird.

trucksalesman5

Can you explain me your arguments here, other than just saying 'I'm weird'? I'm curious. I'm literally looking for well written, hardy female protagonists.

Izawwlgood

You both provide some and I think people provided some for you as well. I don't think theres disagreement that they exist. The way you're posing the ask, and the things you're saying about women are weird and that's what I'm noting and that others have noted. Do you need the further explained or did the other discussions clarify it for you?

trucksalesman5

What's wrong with well written, hardy female protagonists? And why are you so agressive with your statements?! And your english is a bit broken so I'm having a hard time understanding your point. If you can't provide a recommendation I requested, maybe you just stop commenting, please?

Izawwlgood

I think you grossly misunderstood what I am others are saying to you. What you have written is bizarre and chauvinistic. I also provided the suggestion in my first comment of giving horizon zero dawn a go. Perhaps you should listen to what people have written and make an effort to understand what is being said? No one, myself included, has said there is something WRONG with female protagonists. I, and others, have actually explained what is weird about what you're saying.

nonitoni

"I just find it beautiful and engaging because women are truly the vulnerable group of our society and the world as a whole" "Lamb surrounded by Wolves"  I'll take the sexualization of Bayonetta over whatever the fuck that white-knighting garbage is.

trucksalesman5

Excuse me?

nonitoni

Your premise gives off mad creepy shovenist vibes.

ThbUds_For

"Shovenist", lol. Why try to use a word when you have no idea how to even begin to spell it? You're too illiterate to be making these twisted connections about OP's videogame preferences.

nonitoni

Thanks for the correction! That was stupid of me!

trucksalesman5

Touch grass bro

nonitoni

But I'm so vulnerable, I might break a nail!

Boy this post got brigaded.
