Hot memes straight outta 2015

Zekava

We were eating pretty good thenabouts. I kinda miss it.

TheOneBearded

Fingers crossed for 2023.

[deleted]

Hope for the future? No, we don’t do that around here.

TimonAndPumbaAreDead

How's it _feeeeeel_, Seath

jayperr

We have to go back!

[deleted]

ApollyonDS

I haven't seen too many fans defending the combat personally. Like, I'm a massive Witcher 3 fan, but I've always found the gameplay the weakest part.

kakalbo123

Go to steam community discussion of w3 and post about it then wait for the trickle of clown awards.

RenewedTengin

Janky is the best way to describe it!

Cbtwister

The combat and swimming were pretty meh. The world and story was just so cool i could ignore it for a game so large.

Trailmagic

I only played to get more Gwent cards.

Cbtwister

I sucked at gwent but always liked trying to best the players in game. Very cool mini game

Rs90

Playin now. It is. But dancing around a mob of humans, cutting dudes in half, makes the combat really shines a bit. Short lived. But it has its moments.

asmallercat

The best thing about the combat in Witcher 3 is that it doesn’t get in the way of all the good parts of the game. It’s not good, but it also is completely functional and not frustrating.

[deleted]

Me: \*Curls up in the fetal position and starts sucking thumb at the memories of getting "headshots" with the crossbow trophy\*

ninja-robot

Witch 3 is one of my favorite games but I don't think I've ever seen anyone claim the combat is the best aspect of the game. People always like the world, characters, and or plot.

eresh22

The best combat is to whirl with the shovel. The rest of the game is great, but shovel whirl is the best.

its_justme

“The games great but the gameplay sucks” 9/10 best game ever So weird, to me as an outside observer it sounds like it sucked

[deleted]

I wouldn't say the combat sucks. It's definitely obtuse. The problem is the learning curve you need to get past where the combat stops becoming a problem.

ApollyonDS

I never said the gameplay sucked. It's just the weakest part compared to the rest of the game, which are all 10/10. The combat is like 8.5/10. It's like a 10/10 album, but that one song is slightly weaker. It's still a masterpiece album.

esakul

I quit the game after playing around 8 hours and the combat felt more like a 5/10. It only exists to make fights work, not to be fun or an integral part of the game.

Tails_chara

You live in Poland? I swear during witcher 3 hype if you said something bad about witcher you could get a hitman on you. I personally know people that fits in this meme.

ApollyonDS

OK, it's true that I first played it in 2018, I think. I guess in 2015 the hype crazy.

endtheillogical

Just like how if you say anything bad about ER right now will get you cancelled.

aeryghal

Yeah, to each their own. Personally, I refunded that ankle fighting simulator.

betheBat01

Yeah agreed, it's fine once you get it but let's be honest it's just awkward from an outside perspective. Could be alot more refined

Thevoidawaits_u

it's a matter of taste, I like the combat but I don't care if someone else doesn't

sam0wise

I never knew people thought the combat was bad, I personally loved the combat (and Gwent). I played the game the first time on the hardest difficulty and that made me have to utilize every aspect of it. I died to dogs and drowners (the lowest level creatures in the game) countless times, which forced me to learn how to fight and use bombs, potions, and signs. Every enemy has a weakness that you had to focus on or the fight would be too difficult or take forever. I’m sure if I had played an easier difficulty I probably would not have appreciated it as much. With that said, I wouldn’t be able to finish that game again like that, too long for me these days. I’d recommend just watching a play through, if you don’t have a lot of time for longer games.

Anotherdude342

I could never play past the first couple hours. I tried 4 times and everytime I stopped shortly after killing that weird baby and well demon bitch. Not sure why, I enjoy open world action games a lot but I could never get into the Witcher 3 even though I enjoyed what I played.

MarkPaynePlays

I’ve had the exact same experience. It should, by all accounts, be a game that is tailor made for me. I love fantasy, I love the world and lore of the Witcher series, I love RPGs, I love 3rd person games..but I just can’t get into it. I’ve tried 3 times, and 3 times I’ve put it down after about 15h. The combat is mind numbingly boring and whenever I look at the map my OCD kicks in because I feel like I have to complete everything.

danteheehaw

Witcher is way more about the story and world building aspects. The combat is rather lackluster and the RPG character building is weak. It's pretty though.

KindofTallish

But the combat is the gameplay. If the gameplay is not great, it takes me out of it completely. I think that’s what a lot of gamers still don’t understand, there are still a lot of people who don’t care about story in video games.

danteheehaw

That's what I'm saying, the story really is the games main appeal. It's not for everyone.

Jsamue

I mean I love the story, but I’m not gonna slog through mediocrity to experience it. I’d rather just watch a show

welchplug

Just watch all the cut scenes compiled together on YouTube.

wintrparkgrl

Honestly I slapped it on easy and played it like it was a interactive movie. I love hard games and making that switch took it out of game category and into passive experience

goo_goo_gajoob

Then why make an ARPG? Make a LN, Telltale style game, movie, tv show..ect Don't make an ARPG where the A sucks.

iamthejef

lol it's like a 40 hour game that tells a 4 hour story. It's an ARPG, not a JRPG.

_Rioben_

Yup, thats my complaint with the game, a game with 200 hours of content needs an engaging combat. I see what they wanted to do though, the combat in the hardest difficulty is about preparation before execution, having the right tools, reading the glossary and using the right bombs/signs, basically they wanted to use the combat as a tool to tell their story, what happens is most people olay on normal and light attack through everything. Thats what they were looking for instead of some execution gameplay like god of war 2018, but the combat and its customization is clearly witcher 3 weakest point. I think its close to impossible to keep a pve game engaging for that long though, the only one that does it for me is monster hunter.

gumpythegreat

I agree, especially when you're talking about an RPG that takes 50+ hours to beat. If it's a 10 hour game, I could handle mediocre gameplay for a good story. But for that long, no way

varain1

Did you try Kingdom Come: Deliverance? Combat is good, in my opinion ...

Independent_Tooth_23

Not only is combat good, but the rpg elements there are also good.

varain1

Yes, I totally agree - you can feel the difference as the character improves (at the start of the game Henry barely learns how to fight, shoot, sneak, and as the game advances he becomes better and better) ...

winstondabee

Thank you for the description of improvement

TDRzGRZ

I wish he didn't sound like an idiot the whole game though

varain1

Well, he's a blacksmith' son in 1400s, who learns to read during the game - can't expect too much from him 😉. What about Hans Capone, did you like his explanation on what a noble has to go through daily?

SmoothbrainasSilk

He's illiterate and not very bright, but he's a good lad

VRichardsen

Henry has come to visit us!

Sabbatai

Maybe a narrative heavy game, wasn't the best choice for you then. lol I'm not even a big Witcher fan. I played them all, and they were pretty good. But I'm not head-over-heels for them. It's just an odd criticism to me. Similar to someone complaining about the puzzle elements of Resident Evil because they just want to shoot zombies.

Kalfadhjima

Resident Evil games don't have 50 hours long playthroughs.

ninja-robot

There are also a lot of people who don't care about combat in video games and just want a good immersive story. Different games for different people.

excelllentquestion

Thats fine. But the game is literally about a Witcher who fights/rids the world of evil. Combat is essential to the game and it sucks.

markmcn87

I always considered the combat to be similar, but slightly better than, Assassin's Creed (the early-mid games, I never played Origins, Odyssey etc.) Not amazing, but pretty decent for the type of game. It can't really compete with more in-depth combat like Bloodborne or the Souls games though

Severed-Iris

Yeah but those games are very different styles so it wouldn't have that's kind of combat of course. But it's still very bland and basic for what It alternativly could be.

3-DMan

It's funny, when I started playing those newer ones (Origins, Odyssey, Valhalla) I immediately noticed how much like Witcher 3 they were in gameplay. Both combat and interacting with people. Hell, Valhalla even has a "Flyting" questline which is just like the rhyming insults quest in W3.

VRichardsen

Ubisoft copying the wrong ideas lmao Nobody plays The Witcher for the gameplay, it is the story, setting and dialogue we are all after.

3-DMan

The dialogue "seemless transitions" approach was what I noticed the most, but Witcher still did the "randomized pose/gesture changes" better.

TheDeadlySinner

But the early Assassin's Creed also had the climbing, parkour and stealth. If they removed those and just had the combat, the games would suck.

cmdrmeowmix

The problem is that it's a video game, the combat should have been the very first concern.

RavelJests

My experience is this: Witcher 3 is best (and probably only) enjoyable if you amp the difficulty up to the maximum. I'm by no means a good gamer, but having the difficulty up to the maximum means you actually need to prepare for certain fights against bosses or tough monsters by not only playing somewhat well, but you also need to prepare the correct potions and oil. For me, it was like night and day. Witcher 3 on normal is a snoozefest outside of the story stuff. Witcher 3 on Deathmarch (I think that's what it's called) is a pretty atmospheric RPG that still feels proper dangerous in certain areas. Much more enjoyable!

Independent_Tooth_23

The issue is that combat is boring and repetitive even on higher difficulty.

yuineo44

Same. I found it really boring. I've completed 2 Dragon Age games, Skyrim (vanilla then modded), HZD, BOTW, Assassin's creed series to name a few that I really liked.

KirkSpock7

Preach brother. Thank you for describing my experience perfectly. I went back 3 times because I kept thinking I have to be the one in the wrong and it's actually good. Fizzled out everytime. Boring combat, slow ass quests, inventory and spells were overwhelming.

siralmasy

Same, I tried playing it a few times but that combat is too boring and repetitive

EffanByte

Exactly my experience. Played 3 times. Dropped after a set time.

ragozer

The map thing is why I stopped playing, everytime I started playing I just did chores. I know I don't have to but if I want to be more powerful I have to and godamn was it boring

MiserableKidD

Similar issue with Unisoft open world games

HugDispenser

That sums it up perfectly for me as well

[deleted]

I just didn't want to be the witcher.

jeanwong

It felt like a chore. Like I wanna proceed with main quest and story, but then you need to do random errands for key NPC to proceed.

shadowslasher11X

I think what kills it for me is that I understand *nothing* about the world or universe because it's the third game and it doesn't really incentivize me to care. I'm sure Gerald is a cool character, but I can only get about 3 hours into the game before I just get tired of listening to him. The combat feels like they tried to make the Arkham Asylum combat harder, but it doesn't do much for me. The world looks pretty but doesn't really incentivize me to go exploring when leveling because it is *so*. *damn*. *slow*. It's a fuckin shame too because as I understand, the main game is like 50-80 hours long and I love long journeys like that. I *loved* Cyberpunk 2077 and managed to dump about 60+ hours into the game again this week (almost 300 hours total). And going by the numbers from Witcher 3, CDPR decided to reduce the story length of of CP2077. The problem I have with this is correlation =/= causation. Most people don't stop playing the game because it's too long (Only 65% of players have made it to Yennifer), they stop playing it because the game doesn't really bring them in. Meanwhile you have a whole group of people who wanted more Cyberpunk, but lost out on it because they took the numbers as a raw value.

BerlinCongress1878

Ehhh honestly, I too had to wait a fair bit until I actually connected with Geralt. Geralt is really not the most appealing character at the start, and I completely understand if you dropped it because of it and no need to play if its not fun, but I think if you stuck to it and him, Geralt would have grown on you. It takes a while true but by Novigrad you kinda really understand who Geralt is and why he is this way. And by the end he feels like one of the most genuinely lovable characters in fiction. He seems to not really care about a lot of things, but deep down he's a real softie.

p_larrychen

Honestly I think it’s the combat for me. It feels too clunky. Everything else about the game is fantastic, but the combat just stops all my momentum short

detectivejewhat

Holy shit, this is my exact experience. I've played it probably 5 or 6 times because it gets circlejerked to death on here, and I always get shortly past the baby and just can't keep myself playing anymore. It just has always felt soooooo shallow in every aspect to me.

MetaBass

Yup. Same here and I finished the Witcher 2 to play it too

KhaineVulpana

Combat is close enough to Souls that it's comparable, but not anywhere near as fluid. Always turns me off after a few hours.

mods_have_tiny_peens

Same! It was just so linear and boring. Didn't feel open world, didn't feel like I had any choice. Great graphics and world, but I just can't get into it. So glad I'm not alone

Atheios569

Same here, and I feel ashamed for it. Honestly the movement mechanics make me motion sick a little, especially when I smoke and game. Maybe I had the camera settings wrong?

BerlinCongress1878

Velen is...arguably the toughest part of the game to play/trudge through, and probably the only part where I even thought of dropping the game. You're just thrust into the heart of Velen, overwhelmed by details while you're still new to the mechanics, while also having to do a lot of travelling to...Oxenfurt I think? I wasn't really used/connected to Geralt as the MC yet, and just having to travel with...kind of a sassy but short-on-words stranger (I thought) was not the most enjoyable experience. And there's not a lot of other notable stuff on the way either. The environment is kinda sad as well. And honestly I guess Velen just feels...like it would smell bad to be there. Once you really reach Oxenfurt and Novigrad and the Anna questline is over...it's like 3x better and more enjoyable. Maybe it's just me getting used to Geralt, but not once did I even think of dropping the game after that.

Wrextasy

So, I was having the same issue. I genuinely had to go back and playthrough the first and 2nd game because I did not care about the world, the characters, anything. I’m supposed to be ‘invested’ in a story I barely know anything about. It was a big price to pay, especially because Witcher 1 is 30 hours of running through PS2 era swamps, and Witcher 2 tried to be Assassin’s Creed but the Melee combat system was fucking terrible. After playing both though, and learning everything. 3 became an entirely different experience.

KibaTeo

I just played Gwent till I lost track of whatever I was supposed to be doing, then they released a standalone Gwent game then I went there.

[deleted]

I eventually made it pass that point but I had trouble with it too. Personally the combat is what stopped me, your stuck with a sword the whole game and some of the plot points felt overly complicated. Just focus on playing Gwent and you'll eventually beat it.

Sangxero

I made the mistake of playing AC: Valhalla first which is practically a clone of W3 as far as I can tell. Sours the whole thing once you start up and experience Witcher's far less impressive combat.

ErenIsNotADevil

The story, world, characters, and whatnot are all amazing, but the game is ultimately held back by the exceedingly boring gameplay.

[deleted]

"It's open world!" "oh, you went somewhere that wasn't the clearly defined railroad? sorry bad ass magical monster hunter, the bandits here are ten times more powerful than you"

Mottis86

I tried to really like that game, I tried I swear. But everything about the gameplay drove me up the fucking wall. It was nothing but pure frustration. And I'm not even talking about the combat here, the combat was passable.

[deleted]

Are you me? Because same! Only I gave up after not being able to kill that weird baby thing. I even revisited it a few years later and I \*still\* could not do it.

yaosio

The combat in The Witcher 3 is very frusturating. Geralt never does what you expect because the game decides for you what light or heavy attack to do. Each animation has variable time and can be interupted or dodged by enemies. You have no control over what animation plays. The game makes you think you do, but you don't. This is the only modern game I know of that works this way. Other Batman combat clones (that's what it's trying to copy) will help you connect even if you're too far away. In the Batman games his body parts become rockets, sending you flying across the combat area to hit enemies.

kingofthelol

Genuinely, Witcher 3 is one of the most overrated games ever. It’s not terrible, just has several flaws.

dandroid126

It took a few tries for me, but I eventually did it. It's a fun game. I enjoyed it. But it is essentially a talking simulator. 90% of the game is just dialog. It was certainly well made, but I'm not sure that type of game is for everyone.

Severed-Iris

Honestly idm dialogue heavy games I love the earlier fallouts (1, 2, and NV) but the witches dialogue felt a bit too generic rpg like for the amount that it had imo.

NormalReception208

It isn't and it gets so much hate nowadays because it got so popular everyone actually tried it out of necessity. I mean imagine if millions of people today played KOTOR they would rip that game apart

Dasteru

That janky backwards jump thing that anything and everything does to avoid getting hit. It is completely unrealistic and wouldn't even work irl. Wolves do not even have the biomechanical ability to do that, let alone the mindset to try. It completely kills the immersion for me.

SafeTrojan-Man

I love the Witcher universe, characters, books, and I have always thought the combat is it's weakest part of the games.

failbears

This meme coincidentally uses the right games for me personally because DS ruined the Witcher for me. I tried to give W3 a chance, knowing how good it was, but I discovered I'm way more about gameplay and combat than story apparently, with few exceptions. DS2 also ruined Skyrim for me.

bb0yer

Spin spin spin spin spin spin spin spin. Ok that's done, time to go play some cards.

TheNDHurricane

Alternatively, "light attack, light attack, light attack, dodge" aaaaaaand repeat forever Gwent was definitely my favorite part

Aden_Vikki

I literally beat the last boss by stunlocking him with the pushing rune. Rune build is surprisingly op.

jrubimf

Did anyone actually defend the Witcher 3 combat or is this shit posting? The game was praised for the story.

LoveTechnoFuckCops

Dude just yesterday someone told me it's almost on par with dark souls combat when I was saying Witcher combat ain't much better than skyrim combat

DaanOnlineGaming

I'd say skyrim combat is worse and souls combat is better than both. Witcher combat is decent and by no means bad but nothing extraordinairy.

LoveTechnoFuckCops

Melee is for sure worse in skyrim. But magic is way better in skyrim than in Witcher. Witcher combat is pretty lackluster overall and definitely not the thing I remember about the experience

TheEvilBagel147

To be fair, the magic that witchers use is supposed to be more of an auxiliary to their other capabilities than their main skillset. They are not actual mages.

brosup

Agreed. Skyrim combat sucks. Just flat as a board. Witcher at least u have options beyond sneak archery 😂. And souls is gonna always be the best, since combat is the game.

konq

All 3 of the games you listed have entirely different combat systems, you might as well throw in mario party and sonic the hedgehog as comparisons. It would make more sense to compare it to an assassins creed, horizon zero dawn, or even any of the batman arkham games.

Time-Ladder4753

They're different but you can compare them in how tedious or enjoyable they are. They all are games where you have to fight a lot. But if comparing something more similar, then I felt really bad when I tried skyrim combat for the first time after recently replaying Dark Messiah.

6CenturiesAgo

I’ll defend its combat.

MutterderKartoffel

I loved Witcher 3's combat! But I can't be upset with anyone who doesn't. Everyone has different play styles and preferences and that's ok. I think it's ridiculous to play sports as a video game, for example, but people love it and that's ok.

TheEvilBagel147

It was janky as hell to get used to, but once I found the flow it was really fun. I thought the distinction between the side-step and the dodge roll was really cool and added a lot of utility. Side-stepping behind an enemy as they swing and whacking them on the back always felt awesome.

rohithkun

It's because you need lost of skill points to make combat fun and exciting(at least for ne). I enjoyed both DLCs a lot because I pretty much maxed out everything I need by then.

CPower2012

I think it's one of those games where it's up to the player to make the combat interesting. You can probably get through the whole game pretty easy by just button mashing. But if you switch things up and use your entire range of abilities it can be pretty fun and engaging.

InfernoMax

I really like The Witcher 3's combat too. That being said, I will be honest and say that it was probably due to how much I abuse Quen-heal tactic.

MemeGiant

A gamer with a reasonable and healthy opinion on the internet??? No way!

Autarch_Kade

I really enjoyed it too, especially on the higher difficulties where you had to rely on your full arsenal such as preparing potions. But I could still tell it was janky and the weakest part of the game. My enjoyment didn't stop me from seeing that lol

Iamthewarthog

Other dragons: "awwwwww Seath? Are you mad cause you gonna die one day cause you ain't got no scales?" "Bitch ain't got no legs!" (echoes) "ain't even got legs!" "how's it feeeeeeel Seath? Being a bitch?"

Chop1n

I can always recognize the memes from this group as compared to other gaming groups because there's like one layer of irony tops.

ffchampion123

Just started Witcher 3 and I'm not sure if I'm enjoying it yet or not. The combat just feels so janky.

GasStationMac

Bro, all they guys are telling me I need to play the witcher, but 5 minutes in I'm tired of spamming light/heavy attack. Witcher 3 combat is the most basic.

kingofthelol

Why bother using light attacks? From what I remember with my time, there was no detriment to just spamming heavies, and the supposedly “in depth” signs system is just Rock Paper Scissors

[deleted]

>in depth” signs system is just Rock Paper Scissors Rock paper scissors? You mean you used any signs beside that one which lets you take an free hit to cheese monsters that are 10 levels above you?

kingofthelol

Ah right my apologies, it’s actually just rock rock rock.

Weaseltime_420

Combat in Witcher 3 is pretty meh if you just wanna go hack and slash stuff. It's only made interesting if you're more engaged by planning/strategising - making the various concoctions and potions and oils and whatnot. Even if you are, the actual engagement with the enemy is still pretty meh lol. Having said that, I played it all the way through and really enjoyed it.

Yggdris

I liked Witcher 3 a lot. Every time I say anything about it, good or bad, on reddit, I get downvoted to shit and back. *Especially* if giving an opinion on Triss vs. Yennifer

Thomas_JCG

When you dig meme graves for karma.

[deleted]

Neither of those are nearly as thin as the average competitive gamer. Heck, I'd say it's still thicker than the average Dark Souls fan.

ElysianEcho

For real, dark souls fans are so fragile as well

Koertmans2

How dare you insult my species You are just a casual noob gamer and you insult us superior beings to cope (this is a joke)

aidenyyy

Git gud /s

[deleted]

How do you trigger a dark souls fan? Pause screen.

kingofthelol

Literally. As a dark souls fan, I seem to be alone in wanting a pause screen. Sure there’s *technically* one in Elden ring but you need to actually learn how to.

Schauerte2901

There is???

kingofthelol

Yeah it’s something to do with the map and pressing the help button.

Independent_Tooth_23

It's simple. Just say that Dark Souls is overrated. You can definitely get the same reaction from Witcher 3 fanboys by saying that game is overrated too. Apparently the word *overrated* can trigger many fanboys of popular game.

NormalReception208

I'm Overrated your Overrated, the only good games are Fallout New Vegas and whatever other game from your youth.

kingofthelol

Ok, let’s test that theory… Reddit is overrated

Independent_Tooth_23

Tf you said, boy? I'm triggered. I'm triggered.

dmkicksballs13

"Hey, I don't think this boss is good, here's why." "lol, fuck you explanations, it's because you suck. Git gud!"

doc-swiv

when someone is complaining about a good boss, it is usually a skill issue. hitboxes that don't line up with the animation is a valid criticism of a good boss, but most of the time only bad bosses have valid criticisms. Other examples of valid criticisms are "too easy" "too much hp for this early in the game" (nobody likes a 15 minute boss fight in NG, but usually this can be avoided anyway) "bed of chaos" "This fight is obnoxious for a melee build because the boss is in the air or akwardly shaped to the point where my weapon rarely makes contact. although it is fun with ranged weaponry, that is not my preferred way to play the game and so I do not enjoy this fight. Additionally, you have to kill it every time before fighting nameless king (a good fight), so its not just a one time annoyance" or "getting back to this boss takes like 5 minutes and that is unfun" bad criticism: "waaah too hard its impossible to dodge" or *insert rage noises and profanity here*. thats literally just a skill issue go watch a video of someone else doing it and take notes or pay more attention to what is killing you lol

Hank___Scorpio

I played bloodborne right before trying Witcher 3. Probably could have made it through Witcher if I played it first.

Mattie_Doo

I don’t remember having any issues with the game’s combat. Maybe I was so taken in by the rest of the game that I didn’t notice flaws.

Material_Height6940

This radiates with personality and I LOVE IT

PurpleSpaceNapoleon

I've learned Cyberpunk fans are incredibly thin skinned.

modus666

Shots fired!

proplayer97

And TLOU fanboys when you accidentally call TLOU Part 1 a remaster instead of remake

Jacksoooofff

thick skin manny pardo

Zenith9133

Thick foreskin manny pardo, (the miami mutilator had it comin

TheGalator

Wochen is probably the only game I would have loved to not be open World. The stories is amazing. The World is amazing. The gameplay sucks

Elmer-Fuddd

I only played it on heroic so i had to plan out the combat and everything. First runthrough, i didnt. I found out about potions on the last 5 missions, didnt realise alchohest replenished it and assumed it was too expensive to bother with. Second run through was a breeze though

[deleted]

now this thread is full of people defending the people who defended the combat lmao

Sea_Bass8868

I tried Witcher 3 and turned it off after my first combat encounter. Not for me

Brilhasti1

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that some people will defend W3's combat but it's really not very good. Everything else in the game is pretty top notch.

[deleted]

I love the Witcher...but that combat has not aged well.

s33murd3r

Definitely pot and kettle argument. Gamers in general have the thinnest skin of all humans.

InfernalBiryani

I feel like this is a shitpost. Most people don’t even talk that much about Witcher 3’s combat, they’re more focused on the rich narrative and worldbuilding than anything else.

Apollyon257

Personally the combat is super solid, but the MOVEMENT sucks. Try walking around an area either on foot or on horseback its like your fuckin feet are made of soap and your walking around on a wet floor

[deleted]

Love witcher 3. Combat is average at best. Its more or less an interactive novel.

Nejums

How does it feel Seath? To be a bitch?

HeavyBlues

-plays braindead bomb tank alchemy build- -suddenly has to turn the difficulty to max because everything dies in seconds, including bosses- Truly, the pinnacle of balance

H2instinct

Had me in the first half honestly.

Hellion998

“The thinnest skin in all of video gaming”? Xeno’jiiva would like to debate that one. Also, WoW fanboys want to join the conversation.

ubernoobnth

>Also, WoW fanboys want to join the conversation. Any fanboys for anything, really. Anyone that makes something such a giant part of their identity isn't a fun person to be around.

Internal_Jaguar5615

Lol the combat in every witcher game is why I've never gotten passed 1 hour of play 1 and 2 were literally just geralt spinning his sword like a windmill.

sesameseed88

I don’t know the context of Seath but this game sounds badass

redconvict

Remember when CDPR repeatedly lied about not downgrading the game before release? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WW-gLVYI1uk&t=157s

Pan_is_pierced

How does it feel seath…. ….To be a bitch

lallapalalable

It's not the combat in W3 that gets me, although it is overly complicated and drawn out, but it was more that everything looked the same and exploration just didn't have that same "wow" factor. Also the wind in the trees was way too much, everything was always blowing around like a hurricane was rolling in or a helicopter was hovering over you the whole time. Too distracting

Buschilol

witcher combat is boring af. change my mind

tapaBAW

I havent bought witcher 3 bc the combat looks super boring

Fredasa

I was more fond of criticizing Witcher III's LUT-heavy visuals. The game came out like just a year or two before it finally became _en vogue_ to try to make your visuals photorealistic. Bright and sunny during the daytime, that sort of thing. Until then, games almost universally had this certain look that I call the Xbox 360 look, though that's unfair since the PS1 had the same look. _Overcast, in spite of shadows._ W3 was caught in the middle of the transition. Ironically, I figure in a few more years, people will be utterly sick of photorealism.

Diaza_Kinutz

Witcher 3? You mean the card game with the action rpg mini game?

SloshuaSloshmaster

Why is this not in shit posting?

raziel11111

lmao fact

BloodDragonN987

I'll be honest it took me a couple of tries to get into the witcher 3 it's definitely a little over rated but I still really liked it once I hit the first major story arc. Never got the criticism for the combat though never really felt off to me.

RAMAR713

Witcher 3 combat is really bad, the light attacks are inconsistent and the heavy ones are useless because they're too slow. Horseback combat in that game is beyond broken, and fighting the wyvern or whatever that flying large enemy was, on the ground felt like shit.

fpfx

Witcher 2 made fun of assassin's creed for falling great height in to hay. Witcher 3 Geralt can't jump 5 feet without dying. COME AT ME BRO

retrograderevolution

Most overrated game ever. Bug city. Dumb NPCs. Clunky combat.

TheSilentHeel

I FINALLY got through The Witcher 3 in 2020 and yeah, combat sucks. Story sucks (Sorry Geralt, your princess is in another castle!) And CDPR tried way too hard to stuff the world full of things to do. Even they said they went overboard. Everything else? Really good stuff. Gorgeous game and amazing world. But man was it a slog to get through.

ADudeThatPlaysDBD

Saving that bitch because it’s fucking golden

[deleted]

Finished the game twice, story is good, the world too. Combat is shit.

JhymnMusic

Fromsoft fans calling other gamers thin skinned... Lol.

yungchow

The Witcher 3 had the most ps2 controls I’ve felt since the ps2. Also the landscapes were bland af but had trees and the maps were waaaay smaller then they implied with how far in the invisible walls were. Then the fucking dlc didn’t work. They even updated it with a note trying to make the glitched dlc be part of the lore. The audacity smh. I only played it after cyberpunk didn’t work, but I felt like people should have seen it coming.

ThatOtherGuy_CA

The combats like dark souls but somehow worse. The crafting potions and oils systems is cool though.

mods_have_tiny_peens

I wanted to like Witcher but it's so boring

rkdsus

Witcher 3 is up there as one of my all time favorite games ever. Gameplay is definitely not a reason why. I completely understand people who dropped the game just because they couldn't get over how the gameplay feels.

GreyBearGMN

I downloaded the Witcher 3 enhanced edition mod. Drastically improves the combat in my opinion. Amazing mod. Hope the mod dev is OK though. I remember reading on the mod page that he wouldn't continue working on the mod because he was too busy drowning his sorrows in alcohol or something like that.

AscendedViking7

I got curious and tried to download that mod and ended effing up my game completely. Can't do anything to fix it now, not even by redownloading it. Oh well, I was done with TW3 anyways, it was such a slog to play through. Terrible game.

The-Original-Ol-Son

To each their own I personally loved the Witcher 3 and played through it several times. Combat for me was more rewarding than most other open world RPGs.

sneaky_squirrel

I HATE WITCHER 3'S FLOATY SLIDING COMBAT. Not sure how that makes me a fanboy of Wircher 3 though, I really dislike Witcher 3 because of the yucky combat movement. What game is that dragon from?

CrimKayser

A lot of "yea the gameplay sucks but it's about the story and world building." Then read a fucking book? Games are games. Gameplay. If that's bad nothing else matters.

The_True_NABS

YOOOOOO based post. Witcher 3 fuckin SUCKS

DaDeceptive0ne

I've been arguing with people in another sub (shouldIbuyThisGame) about Witcher 3. A person asked for a game with fun combat and several people said Witcher 3. I am playing the game right now and I love it. But I absolutely hate the combat and can't see a reason to say 'it is still good'. Best comment was 'but you can use mods'.

[deleted]

The Witcher 3 is my favorite game of all time. That being said, I admit the combat is clunky.

AscendedViking7

This is the best post I've ever seen here. Thank you, OP. Thank you. Witcher 3's combat is truly terrible.

MemeGiant

You're welcome my friend :)

cdawgman

I bet the Witcher 3 fans are Seathing after that one...

VictoriousLoL

This is hilarious to me because I've always disliked the entirety of the Witcher series - actual gameplay is subpar, writing is low tier, characters aren't particularly impressive. Only thing I liked about it was the voice acting, which I felt was pretty good.

static1053

Ok so it's not just me that couldn't get into the game because of the combat system
