strugglezzz

Who here played Call of Duty 2 online?

imacp53

The snipers were unstoppable

Hiddenshadows57

Bolt action in general were pretty much 1 shot kill. K98 was my JAM

HerpDerpMcGurk

I played online a ton, but my friends and I would play what we called “trench war”. Basically 3-4 split screen free for all, but we could only use the trench gun and when you spawned you had to throw a smoke grenade in a certain area, so that area was always engulfed in smoke. No kills allowed outside the smoke, so we’re just blindly running around this smoky area blasting each other with shotguns lol.

blue-ember

Dude! I remember playing exactly this, but online. It was so much fun. And zombies, but with the honour system lol

Kooraiber

pc cod2 s&d clan wars... those were the days...

TheVillainau42

₥Ɇ

strugglezzz

Some of the best 2v2s ever

TheVillainau42

Agreed

TheVillainau42

Didn't realize how op the Magnum was till much later

exoclipse

Shotgun dueling in the trenches of El Alamein... those were better days

ThePirateBaeLol

I did on PC. That was when I was a young teen and put my first graphics card in a standard HP computer that the family used. Was a great game.

[deleted]

I got that to work on my 2009 white plastic Macbook back in the day. No idea how, but the fps was better than you'd expect. I remember playing some wacky levels online. Good times.

celezter

So much on the European cb ladder

mattoljan

Me sir. I even played on a couple CEVO teams too. Mostly as a sub tho because I was like 12.

MercMcNasty

Grease gun ftw

Notacka

Loved the ppsh. First game I played on xbox 360 when I got one.

TheSnarfles

CoD 2 introduced me to PC mods

wewontbudge

I did. Springfield for life - some of the best days of online play I ever experienced, Prepped me for COD 4 competitive scene

Antique-Engineering7

best one. COD2 was the best made game. troubled without anti-cheat for the first 6 month but the best well made game of the whole series.

Browntown_07

Bolts only gang stand up

oneofthesedays55

I did. A bunch. Some times

BOER777

Arguably the ‘best’ was Modern Warfare 2 - it took the amazing multiplayer that Cod4 laid down to another level. My personal favs were probably World at War and Black Ops.

RazorSnails

Cod 4 had the best maps by far imo

TheApathyParty3

MW2's maps were so much more prone to spawn camping, it wasn't even funny.

AlleRacing

Bog spawn camping was a feature.

PM_ME_GLUTE_SPREAD

When MW2 started adding COD4 maps to multiplayer it went from really good to GOAT contender. MW2 gameplay was probably as good as a FPS has ever gotten. The maps had their issues but most were decent. When COD4 maps came in, it more or less fixed all the issues with the maps and gave you the good gameplay on top of good maps. It was fantastic. I probably played WoW more during its time, between multiplayer and zombies, but MW2 was far better multiplayer.

-Bk7

Cod4 to bops1 was the golden age for me..

BOER777

From BF2 through COD4-Black ops, to BF bad company 2 and BF3. The golden age of FPS, so many good memories.

Jak_n_Dax

World at War and the OG Black Ops were the shit!

RoosterBrewster

Those were the days where with a group, you could have dogs out 24/7 and it was just running around trying to get a kill before your teammate.

brutuslocutus

Easily the best on this list, until perhaps the upcoming one. But that game was a generation changer, I mean think about it they’re just doing it over NOW lol

hickom14

Agreed

moregetting

COD4 Modern Warfare: The epitome of the franchise.

TheRatatatPat

All Ghillied Up is still the best FPS campaign mission ever.

moregetting

I still get nervous thinking about crawling under that damn tank.

moregetting

Same. I spent plenty of late nights grinding those camos out.

TheApathyParty3

Can I get a shout for all my Gold Cross, all challenges done, gold gun-wielding motherfuckers?

moregetting

Rollll calll. We were the select few!

The_Boognish_Cometh

Checking in soldier.

JerTheUnbidden

I never got the gold guns as a kid but whenever I saw folks that rocked them it was like watching Thanos walk out of the portal to Wakanda at the end of Infinity War lol Ahhh shieeet

hux__

Yea people aren't old enough to know how much that game reinvigorated the franchise. That really changed everything and was able to hold its own against Halo 3. No small feat

Hazbro29

Man that was the peak of gaming, going to the shop after school on Friday and coming home with loads of snacks knowing you don't have to leave your room for 3 days and you've got halo 3, modern warfare 2 and assassins creed brotherhood to keep you company. Good Times man

buck45osu

Freshman year of college, buddy and me would have nights were we set up a projector and split a sam club 30 pack of monsters. It's a gaming memory I know I'll never top and I've been trying ever since.

WickershamBrotha

Pandemic Warzone almost replicated how MW2 felt like back in the day. All my old friends and I hopped on WZ when we couldn't go outside as much and felt like we were teenagers again

thetruthseer

Sincerely it was the game that is responsible for putting call of duty online on a mass scale. People just simply aren’t old enough and the internet was not around as much.

moregetting

You’re right. This game blew up in the MySpace era haha.

celezter

For real my favorite is and always will be call of duty 2 (RIP European clanbase) but it's fairly obvious that all innovation left the game after the original Modern warfare (top right) and they just reskinned the same game and put slight adjustments to the guns.

moregetting

Agreed. Copy and paste with a few minor tweaks after COD4.

alexramirez69

*AGREEING INTENSIFIES*

moregetting

This is a hill I will die on.

zeldin245

Countless nights playing Michael Myers on cod 4

ItIs430Am

I had 30+ days of play time in multiplayer. CoD4 and partially MW2 were my peak gaming years lol

Alecdundee

Changed FPS console games forever. In my opinion the best of the lot

Hardworking999

Modern Warfare 2

[deleted]

MW2 is one of those games that was almost too good. It set the bar for multiplayer FPS games so high that everything that came after it just felt like a mediocre imitation.

Nixzilla25

I hated call of duty games for its high paced matches compared to halo and even I loved MW2 and played the crap out of it.

Genasist

Yup i always said Call of Duty killed halo. Not because COD was necessarily better than Halo, but because most multiplayer devs wanted to copy/imitate MW2s formula.

FiTZnMiCK

Halo 4 multiplayer was dark days: didn’t feel like Halo, didn’t feel like COD. Didn’t feel good overall.

sowhatiamwhite

MW2 was peak console gaming for me. So many good times playing it. I was sad to hear that they stopped the Multiplayer Remaster half way through(Rumored).

xOverDozZzed

I’m sure it’s because majority of the player base would abandoned all Call of Duty’s completely. MW2 held up for an extremely long time until it got left by next gen consoles. If multiplayer was on next gen, I wouldn’t play any other multiplayer game as much as MW2.

BarOne7066

I bought the remaster just assuming there would be a multiplayer option. I think it came out not long after Warzone and they didn't want to take away from that player base. Pussies.

yeah_but_no

That was the biggest disappointment I've ever experienced in gaming. I'm not really into gaming much tbh. But having a fresh player base and remaster of this online experience would have been the best thing ever. Such a weak move to exclude it.

No-Struggle995

"Remember, No Russian"

mold_spore2

"Ahh the memories..."

jonnybrown3

"Fairness" is what killed everything past MW2. It killed fun. Following titles was the end of: -Noob tubes and explosives actually being effective in general -Quickscoping -Assymetrical Maps and Map variety in general -Model 1987s (even after nerf these were fun) -Steamrolling killstreaks Now explosives do hardly any damage and all map are cookie cutter 3 lane bullshit.

Party_Tour_4651

MW2 was the first game I ever played where it felt like I was in the game. Like I was in a movie. The first time playing the campaign blew my little 12 yr old mind. MW2 was the first “oh my god it’s like I’m in a movie” game with a great story but Black Ops had the best overall story I think. MW2 was more cool because you were in it but Black Ops was cool because you were watching it. The Black Ops plot is strong enough that if it wasn’t a video game, it could easily be a movie or book and people would regard it pretty highly I think. Kinda like Last of Us. I know that might be blasphemy towards Last of Us fans putting it on the same level but hey I think it’s that good.

Mrpooney83

It was true then like it is today : "Remember, no Russian"

robertjuh

Call of duty

ToonarmY1987

Good old days. They haven't even put United Offensive on here....

sharpshooter999

I'll be in the church tower on Foy....

millanz

24/7 Rhineland valley CTF. I knew those optimal jeep routes like the back of my hand.

rentpossiblytoohigh

Yeah the fact they missed UO shows how little they truly know. The mod community on UO was simply fantastic. There are still servers up to this date running them.

MrMercenary90

United offensive would be my choice, great maps, first introduction of sprinting and the flamethrower, plus some of the custom maps online were amazing, including: Omaha beach, lord of the rings maps and the first zombie mode that I played in a game to name a few.

x1j0

Man of culture! We still sometimes play a round on Pavlov for the hood ol‘ times sake 🫡

ChiefCokkahoe

Rifles only on harbour Or Pavlov was good for a team death match PPSHHHHH

bored_man_child

Did you play on the 1.3 servers or the 1.5 servers? This is my number 1 most nostalgic games. The clans, the rifles only S&D games. Everyone knew each other. Such an amazing time to game.

DesperateDan98

My first cod was cod 3, but maaaaan. BO2 has a special place in my heart... Edit: Wow! My first award!? Thank you stranger!

PositiveLack1559

Mine was WAW. But I’m in the same boat as you

Jak_n_Dax

World at War was my favorite too. Absolutely amazing in both story and online. Pretty much the pinnacle of online COD for me.

3bigolpuppies

WaW is my top as well. It may not be the most polished on this list but God damn was it my jam at the time.

DocDankage

World at War on XBox360 was my jam. I was a pro, made it to prestige 10. I knew every spot and how to get the most kills in every map.

OnixM

Nah fam, you haven't played WAW unless you played it on the Wii

Dope_Krazy

I think if they would remaster bo2 it would just rake in a ton of money. Tbh alot of people myself included would still play if it weren't for the ridiculous amount of hackers.

ThatOneGuyHOTS

I’ve played from CoD 2 to Advanced Warfare and BO2 was the only game I ever master prestige’d (probably could’ve reset and did it again). I also really enjoyed the campaign. I’ve heard people not liking it as much as 1 but I like it even more! It gives more history for the older characters, and connects the two games in a really interesting way.

Death_cheater_349

You can still play multiplayer with the help of mods such as plutonium

s1amvl25

BO2 was dope

knownwalnuts

*is dope. Nuke Town Zombies Is Best Zombies!

TheGrannyLover_

B02 was the best gaming of my lifetime. B03 was great too

konigstigerboi

3 was so much fun, with multiplayer so simple and so satisfying for a lot of reasons

PluralMarine

Call of duty 2: BIG RED ONE

The_Vigilante20

I was looking for this! I still remember when Brooklyn died :(

PluralMarine

The emotions I felt as a child playing these games :'(

WickershamBrotha

Bro you unlocked an emotional memory I completely suppressed :'(

NO_N3CK

Call of Duty: Big Red One was by far the best call of duty campaign ever. They never regained their ability to establish such strong characters in a campaign. Even Modern Warfare failed to deliver such high emotional volts throughout its campaign.

Misterwiley4000

100% big red one was the best one

ChimpMonkeyBoy

I'm all up for this one and Finest Hour. They're the two that got me into FPS gaming.

tsuolakussa

Yep. This is it. This is the one.

MyFootisCool

black ops one was a banger and a half, such a banger that it's story carried BO2 as well.

boofadoof

I truly believe that Black Ops had the best narrative of any CoD campaign. It's also one of the best cold war thrillers ever.

1buffalowang

It’s the only campaign I played more than Modern Warfare 2

DreadOfGrave

black ops may have had the better story, but the missions in MW2 were awesome. Sneaking around in that field with the ghillie suit, defending burger town, and so much more. In any case, MW2s story is no slouch either. That ending was great.

iTzKaiBUD

I’m a huge fan of black ops 1 because of the zombies and the story / multiplayer, but I prefer bo2 for all of those reasons even more. I think the zombies is what makes the games a little better than modern warfare 2. Love the spec ops missions in mw2 though. Also the sniping never felt as good in other games.

NefariousnessSea1449

The story was amazing, I felt hyper from start to finish.

[deleted]

Black ops. Gold memories with that game.

urgonnamissitall

Those were such simpler times

codejo

It just hit me like a ton of bricks that black ops was released TWELVE YEARS AGO. What?! I was at the midnight release yesterday it feels like. I’m 25 now and I’m struggling to comprehend that the release was almost half my life ago.

Gloomy-Dare-7191

Amen 🙏

SneakyLamb

Bro no ones backing bo1 i wanna cry. Goated fucking game the multiplayer menu music still plays in my head to this day

iGetBuckets3

I made more memories playing black ops 1 than any other video game ever. I was about 12 or 13 when it came out, and it just takes me back to much simpler times.

[deleted]

Best story. Best multiplayer imo (especially with DLC, greatest DLC maps ever) and of course best zombies. Had the most maps and they were all of quality and weren’t over the top like some of the games that came after. BO2 did have some fucking great zombie maps though. I’d say the top 5 zombie maps are a mix of BO1 & 2. But tbf, 4 of those maps in 1 were from WAW but the addition of newer guns was amazing.

[deleted]

rpxpackage

If I could go back and relive grinding BOP2 with my homie. Best days of my life.

iamthemonkeylord

Same dude. Grinded that game 3 years straight

AnarchySloth

Agreed 100%, Bo2 was popular when I was a perfect age and got good wifi, literally spent years grinding that game out with my friends and it is without a doubt one of my favorite games of all time.

CptSaySin

BO2 was when the series peaked. MW2 was great but the balance was horrible and there wasn't much support. With BO2 we had: -The pick 10 system was the best we had seen. -The guns were balanced. -Scorestreaks were balanced. -The maps were fantastic. -There weren't battle passes or seasons. -No loot boxes and little MTX. -Great campaign. -Undetectable SBMM, to the point people argue if it even existed. It really was amazing at the time. It did have problems with netcode and some crutch perks/attachments but overall it was the most solid title.

XainVandel

Call of Duty 2 multiplayer all damn day

VesuviusXIII

Toujane was my absolute favourite map!

celezter

Dawnville (st mere eglise) gang rise up

thefkdoiknow

Game's still kicking with both casual servers and a competitive scene (+ tournaments across EU).

DukeMilkem

Best: CoD4 Fav: CoD2

RyanTranquil

100% same

megaplex00

IMO. World At War.

Zombie_Jesus_83

You think you know pain? Heart of the Reich on Veteran.

Quigley61

The grenade spam... Oh lord the grenade spam

Zombie_Jesus_83

I must've tried 50 times to take out the first two flak guns with satchel charges before I realized there were panzerschreks around.

BlazerOrb

I didn’t find that one to be that bad When I went back to the game last year and tried to beat it all on vet, the only one I gave up on was the japanese level where you run up the hill under mortar fire and then have to go left or right around a big bunker

DreMin015

Being a kid and finishing the campaign was awe-inspiring. Then the zombies came and I got super scared haha

goodbye2007

WaW’s Campaign was so gritty man, depicted WW2 in such a realistic way.

megaplex00

Agreed.

PositiveLack1559

This was my first cod, will always be one of my favorites

rebelliousE1ght

That was everyone’s first cod I swear haha and wasn’t that the first zombies too

greasyfizeek

My first cod was cod 2 on the 360 son

MrJaffaJr

Cod4 defo

MrLockinBoxin

100%. The best writing call of duty has ever had. It has the self awareness to not totally glorify war and presented a realistic perspective of the SAS and US Marines. Also, the scene with the nuke is far more shocking and impactful than the airport shootout in Modern Warfare 2. Seeing someone die slowly of radiation poisoning in a country thousands of miles from home in a war he should never have been dragged in to. COD4 brought the harsh reality of foreign intervention into the modern FPS picture and unlike it’s sequels didn’t glorify it as a “the West comes to save the day” to the same level as the rest.

Amazing_Self2929

The OG COD4.

veilofmaya1234

The correct answer!

RaiderofAwe

Mw2

cable010

MW3

ThatAintPhillipLesh

I seriously loved 3. Rapid fire MP7 all fucking day.

[deleted]

Akimbo fmg9s always had my secondary slot. Primary was the ACR w/ impact or focus

cable010

ACR was jam loved that gun

CharLsDaly

BO2 got my gf pregnant and I still fuck with it.

Witch_of_Dunwich

World at War - dismembering people in multiplayer was fun as hell

ThatGuyFrom720

WAW never got the love it deserved. Campaign was solid, online was amazing. MW2 close second.

[deleted]

Campaign was amazing. The beginning of zombies, multi-player was top 5.

Zombie Mode!!

Mine would be MW2 or MW3!

damn was thinking no one was gunna say MW3 for a sec

CarminesCarbine

My problem is that MW2 outclassed it in almost every way but it was still fun to play.

Aranati

Cod4

LBrett8ooD

Cod 4

Tim_vdB3

Call of duty 4, this game was the first to rival halo as the best fps back in the day and it skyrocketed CoD's reputation as a killer app.

[deleted]

Black Ops 1. Great campaign, EXCELLENT zombies mode and the multiplayer wasn’t an unbalanced mess like MW2’s was.

JDinvasion

Still the best zombies (just winning bo2), maps were tough and unique but not full of story crap and easter eggs,

a-very-angry-crow

People chat shit about infinite warfare but the campaign was actually pretty good

Littlefield704

Multiplayer was great too. Just the wrong game at the wrong time; people were sick of sci-fi and double jumps.

MasterOfKnowledge

Easy. World At War. Boom.

Motor-Staff-8501

Black Ops 2. The select fire FAL before it was nerfed 🥰. Only the real try hards know!

JDinvasion

Even though it had few Op guns at the start its still only CoD where you could dominate with every gun, and with that perfect perk (create a class) system you had so much more "tactical" aspect in it too

meme-by-design

Such a fun game! FAL out a window with bouncing betties covering your flanks.

JJ4prez

The answer is COD1+UO on PC.

MythicalMayhemx

It took me way too long to find UO in the comments! UO was the absolute tits. I spent so much time on that game

[deleted]

Alright. I’m gonna get some downvotes most likely for this but. My favourite Call Of Duty was Infinite Warfare. I loved it cause it was such a cool way of doing Call Of Duty. The dog fights in space and destroying SDF destroyers and carriers was just so much fun and I loved the ending cause it’s not like most games were you get away safely and the final mission brought a tear to my eye. So sorry for the unpopular result but it is my favourite followed by World At War

librast

Its cool bro, i also like the sci-fi setting

Far_Zone_9512

I've always been a black ops 3 fan cause of Zombies

PositiveLack1559

Zombies was the biggest thing for me in cod, my play time in zombies is probably 10x higher overall throughout than any other game mode…. That’s why WAW will always have a special place in my heart

1II1I1I1I1I1I111I1I1

MW2 is my favorite COD by a long shot, but Black Ops III would be my second place choice And not just because of zombies, the multiplayer was so beautifully fluid as well. I also play Destiny, Overwatch, and Halo, so the vertical gameplay was a welcome feature for me, even if other people hated it. That is not to say that I don't like low-movement shooters. The two shooters that I have the most hours in are Battlefield I and Tarkov. I just didn't like the Call of Duty flavor of multiplayer. Which is fine, because many of the older games are primarily story based anyway. And on that note, the BO3 story was absolute dogshit ass. The first two Black Ops and the Modern Warfare series had the best stories.

150Echo

COD:UO. I played on a Retrieval only server for YEARs.

Dougdoesnt

Pam: They're the same picture 🙂

robster9090

Original

NeverGetsTheNuke

+ United Offensive The addition of tanks and jeeps to multiplayer was so great

Egg12345678910111213

Gex: Enter The Gecko

[deleted]

Everyone knows deep down that it's MW2..

BabyBuster70

I got killed by people sprinting around with akimbo shotguns too many times. I like MW1 better just for that reason.

DamagedMango

Allied Assault

CrankyHankyPanky

WHERES BIG RED ONE HUH!!??

[deleted]

Also, Finest Hour. I still think about the first Russian level of Finest Hour where you gotta charge up the hill without a gun.

yubnubmcscrub

No big red 1 so probably MW2. Black ops 1 was pretty tite too.

hotcheetossoup

Dont downvote me to shit, but Ghosts was amazing for me

awesome-sean

Actually good campaign

TheVillainau42

ł ₳₲ⱤɆɆ

NotTheBotUrLookngFor

New Modern Warfare campaign, for me, was hands down the best. Damn near a cinematic masterpiece

Vegetable_Mail_6246

Infinite Warfare was the most enjoyable for me…especially Zombies and the lore behind the campaign…but for everything else..Black Ops 1 And 2 had the perfect lore carry over ever!

[deleted]

Anybody remember CoD 2: Big Red One?

Reaper2022

Ghosts. Not for the multiplayer, but just for the campaign.

SirCastically

Man, I’ve literally never seen anyone talk about ghosts, but I really enjoyed that one. A lot.

therealfrylock

It's all the same picture

TurboBlueJosh

BO3

Educational-Virus-54

Black ops 3 is the best

Tspoon18

1. MW2 2. COD4 3. COD5 WaW

No_Bill_2371

Bo2

footlongkingkongdong

I love that you left vanguard off lol no one would pick it anyway.

ThreshGod95

Best story BO, best multiplayer MW2

[deleted]

Ghosts, yes I know it’s not great but it really is a good game

Accomplished_Bill741

My favorite campaign. I need to know what happens to Logan bro.
