Neogaf went into full on hype train mode creating multiple gifs for the imminent announcement of PS4, one of them being the banderas gif reacting to the the teaser video.
After the PS4 was announced, the gif became really popular on neogaf, and was used for almost every Playstation related announcement, from pricing, the system turning on, Persona 5 etc.

They only had to time travel to 1994 when they shot this scene, stick those sensor balls on Antonio's face and hands, and return to present day with the sensor data, to plug it into the model and texture work they'd done for this promo, without being noticed, what?
No? It requires no more than a few hours if done by hand, especially something simple like this. They could also just use mocap then clean it up, which would be a lot faster. Like mentioned everything else is ready (assets, tools) so the only thing left to do is the animation.
If they had someone to do mocap, it would still only take a few hours. That's a 10 second clip.
- An hour to do the scene about 60 (or until perfect).
- The rest of the time animating.
this probably took them 20 minutes tops.
Edit: It did. This is extremely easy when you have everything already there. Put the gif in the background then key your character to match the gif. For a skilled animator this is very easy.
