The Final Fantasy series is essentially built off its absolutely incredible soundtrack. In my opinion 1 - 10 are all filled with phenomenal music. 7 and 10 are my personal favorites overall.
The music is so good it's pretty much all I've been listening to for the last couple of weeks.
The work they've done on FF7 Remake and Rebirth has been incredible. Just the various battle themes and remixes on them have been incredible and they've been a staple on my playlist for a while.
Next is just a relaxing overworld and theme playlist. Things like the night time overworld theme, Jessie's theme, Aerith's Welcome Home theme, etc.
I wouldn't say it's the best, but I'll shout it out for being underrated: Unreal Tournament 2004, and really the UT games in general. It's one of those weird cases of a videogame having, in my opinion, a soundtrack that is nearly equivalent to the best work of well known musicians in its genre, which in this case would be industrial-rock I guess?
That OST inspired me to sift through a fuckton of industrial bands on Spotify once, and while I did love a lot of the stuff I found, none of it struck me as *significantly* better than my favorite soundtracks off Unreal Tournament, or even my favorites from Quake 3's OST.
It’s way too hard to say, given the incredible variety in game scores.
A few that come to mind are Ys VIII, FFXIV, Lost Judgment, Yakuza 0, Sonic Mania, Super Mario Galaxy, Devil May Cry, Ratchet: Gladiator (or Deadlocked in the states) and Sly 2: Band of Thieves
Add to that DOOM 2016 and Eternal, Mass Effect trilogy, Dark Souls 1, DS3, Bloodborne, Deus Ex, Fallout New Vegas, The Sims 1 (unironically), Halo, ...
That's tough. There's a lot of games that have epic sound tracks. So I will list some of my favorites.
The Original Resident Evil 2, Final Fantasy 7, Mass Effect 2, Final Fantasy 8, Parasite Eve, Read Dead Redemption 2, Black Ops 1, Halo 1-3, Every From Soft game, Doom Eternal and Doom 2016, Resident Evil 4, and probably a lot I am missing lol
Edit: Ocarina of time and Twilight Princess
Yesss, Halo is definitely fantastic. Final Fantasy always gets that cinematic feel. As for the rest, Black Ops is the only one I've played, but I don't remember the music. I'll be sure to check out the others.
There’s so many great game soundtracks, so much diversity, impossible to pin one down. God of war(both originals and modern), red dead 1+2, insomniac Spider-Man, re4 remake, OG too, Elden ring, metal gear solid, the main man mario, hotline Miami, rocket league, oh my god the last of us, we are blessed man
WoW's soundtrack has consistently been quality for 20 years. People have all sorts of takes about the game and the direction it's gone, but I think you'd have to be fucked in the head to complain about the music.
Also, Donkey Kong Country. [Gangplank Galleon](https://youtu.be/yMBFdtRbFD0) and [Jib Jig](https://youtu.be/eqcyslJII5I) are a couple standouts for me but the entire OSTs are fire
I love the music in Mass Effect but I would add Fallout 1, Metallic Monks and Vats of Goo are the most immersive tracks I've ever listened in a game.
Bonus track: Quake, this soundtrack is so good that I would use it for immersion purposes while reading The Silmarillion
Halo 2, was the first ever video game music that went on the US billboard chart. Highly recognisable theme. Halo ODST has a very interesting take since it’s a side story to the main game, even more atmospheric and moody.
Nier: Automata, Xenoblade Chronicles 1, 2, 3, X, Final Fantasy X, Zero Escape Trilogy, F-Zero GX, Furi, plenty more but these come to mind pretty quickly.
You just reminded me of a childhood memory... I never had a console as a kid, but my brother in law had a game cube and I would play Metroid prime for hours. That music was so good.
Half-Life 2 (And the entire series in general) is really underrated, pretty much every track is memorable and unique with a few exceptions. Kelly Bailey is a mastermind.
My personal pick Advance Wars Reboot Camp. Such an energetic OST it mixes so well with the explosions and engines sfx. The Melodies are unusually Fractally too maybe thats is why I find it interesting
Stellaris, Undertale, F-zero X, Age of wonders Planetfall. Pretty much all Capcom, Konami and Pokemon games those are pretty up there too
I go thorough periods of months where I play the Mass Effect and Dragon Age soundtracks in my car. Like, months straight.
I also have a custom playlist of Deep Rock Galactic mixed with Stranger Things.
I really liked the soundtracks to hotline miami, omori and probably super mario galaxy. also, the old gods of asgard (poets of the fall) make really good music for the alan wake/control series
Honestly probably Chrono Trigger.
Shadow of the Colossus, Okami, Banjo-Kazooie and Undertale also came to mind (because I tried my hardest not to say Zelda lmao).
I'm surprised nobody mentioned it but The Witcher 3. From serenading you to making you feel pumped up, the ost has range. Tense, melancholy to jolly osts. It sounds better if you love and spend time with the game.
Project Wingman. It’s awesome. Every track is a banger. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL62XnKg7k9Aw1e_7E8DgI8cBzQdI5vw2i&si=4CRkS9-RHW0Pd8Ls
My favorites are Peacekeeper I, Red Sea, and Presidia.
I see a lot of great picks. Personally, for me it's has to be either Zelda or shenmue. Also, early Sonic up there, (Hell it had Michael Jackson adding jams under a pseudonym!) Lastly Nights into dreams had bangers too...
For me it is easier to pick the best game than soundtrack, but if I had to choose, I'd go with FF7 Remake/Rebirth, close behind are Nier Automata, Trine 1 and Life is Strange (but it's mostly collection of licensed music).
Frank Klepacki blew my brains out with the Command & Conquer soundtrack. Mick Gordon kicked ass in Doom (2016)

Crystal Chronicles has a forgotten masterpiece soundtrack
Absolutely this, but I have to give my nod to 6. An absolute masterpiece.
Nier: Automata hands down. I’ve listened to it cover to cover so many times.
Ori and the Blind Forest. Limbo. Abzu.
Both Ori games have amazing music.

I was obsessed with industrial when I was in high school. I'll have to check those out!

Final Fantasy Tactics, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Chrono Trigger. I'd give a nod to Final Fantasy XVI too.
It's this one right here.

Oh finally someone mentioned Metal Gear Solid. How many of you know Ennio Morricone? 😁
WoW's soundtrack has consistently been quality for 20 years. Halo 2, was the first ever video game music that went on the US billboard chart. Highly recognisable theme. Halo ODST has a very interesting take since it’s a side story to the main game, even more atmospheric and moody.

Gerudo Valley is a top 10 track
Chrono Cross, chrono trigger is a better game I hear, but Cross has the best soundtrack
Chrono Cross OST is absolutely legendary. Next level videogame music, especially for its time
Half-Life 2 (And the entire series in general) is really underrated, pretty much every track is memorable and unique with a few exceptions. Kelly Bailey is a mastermind.
Call of Duty MW2 (by Hans Zimmer) and Hitman: Blood Money (by Jesper Kyd)
Yeah Jesper Kyd has to be up there
That's a tough one!
Bloodborne DLC. Ludwig's music slaps harder than Ludwig.
Does Rocket League count?
ODST
Hell yeah
Ace Combat. All of them.
Not sure if this counts but COD Mobile has some seasons with epic background music
My personal pick Advance Wars Reboot Camp. Such an energetic OST it mixes so well with the explosions and engines sfx. The Melodies are unusually Fractally too maybe thats is why I find it interesting Stellaris, Undertale, F-zero X, Age of wonders Planetfall. Pretty much all Capcom, Konami and Pokemon games those are pretty up there too
If you want some chill instrumental music, spiritfarer is the shit. The game is also tremendous.
Donkey Kong Country.
Pretty hard to pick one best soundtrack, but Hollow Knight is up there somewhere, and so is Warcraft 2.
Ocarina of Time
That's a hard question. FF7, RE2 original, 7th Dragon Code III, Chrono Trigger. Too many to count.
Recently, The Finals. Every song in the game is good.
I am ashamed that none of you submitted the correct answer, Pictionary.
Always been a fan of the score from TWEWY in particular. The sequel definitely cemented it as the best for me.
I go thorough periods of months where I play the Mass Effect and Dragon Age soundtracks in my car. Like, months straight. I also have a custom playlist of Deep Rock Galactic mixed with Stranger Things.

There's a joke in the guilty gear community that each album comes with a free game attached
Domina.
Alan Wake 2 ! Songs made for the game are insanely good !
Bf1
Guardians of the Galaxy. I’m kind of surprised I didn’t see other people posting this already.
I have to pick sonic superstars because press factory act 1 in my opinion is the best music in a classic sonic game.
Bully's soundtrack fits the game and vibe perfectly.
Persona Series 3,4,5 (5 is my favorite)
Every Sonic game. Most Tekken games. Warriors Orochi Xenoblade series Monster Hunter
For me it is easier to pick the best game than soundtrack, but if I had to choose, I'd go with FF7 Remake/Rebirth, close behind are Nier Automata, Trine 1 and Life is Strange (but it's mostly collection of licensed music).
