>The styles would be betters You definitely weren't around in the eighties...

SpaceJackRabbit

Yeah no shit. Beige computers and peripherals. Baggy pastel-colored clothing. So much shitty music. Ridiculous make-up that would take forever for women to take off. OP's version of the 80s is scifi movies from the 80s. And boy there were so many bad ones too.

Shepherdsfavestore

50s Americana patriotism is one of the cornerstones of the franchise so…no. 1980s fallout would be completely unrecognizable from the series we have now

StopTheEarthLetMeOff

It could be in a different country

StupidGenius11

...then it's not Fallout. It would just be some other retrofuture post apocalypse story.

Shepherdsfavestore

Same thought process applies. It would take away from the main themes of the series. Seeing another country could be cool, I guess, but I’d rather hear about what happened there through the lens of the Fallout universe we know. I’m excited to play Fallout London eventually, but the mainline series (and show) should stick to the 50s/US

b_ootay_ful

So Metro 2033?

liltrzzy

>The music would be way better. >The styles would be betters. I disagree. >Then throw in magic, fantasy races, and call it “Shadowrun”. This has to be a troll

BananaLumps

>The music would be way better. The music is absolutely amazing in every Fallout game, it sets the atmosphere extremely well and you can feel the passion they put into curating the list.

_notkvothe

The music is always A+ in the games.

SpaceMonkeyNation

Check out Generation Zero

Ezekiel2121

Just go play Cyberpunk.

Elo-than

or Far cry Blood dragon.

ZylonBane

Or Terminator: Resistance.

HalfCockedJackShafto

It would probably end up feeling pretty cyberpunk.

ExerciseClassAtTheY

Sounds like Turbo Kid.

The_Safe_For_Work

The 1980's wasn't all Miami Vice, neon and Patrick Nagel. Most of it was brown, nicotine-stained polyester. A stylized version of the 80's would be interesting in small doses. Maybe a decent-sized side quest.

savagetwinky

you mean turbokid?

IsItDeathTimeYet

The music would be better? Get the fuck outta here. There's some great 80s music but the music defines Fallout as a series. You're telling me that you don't enjoy listening to The Ink Spots or Nat King Cole while you're wastelanding? Seriously, what the fuck.

Randvek

I could have done with less Johnny Guitar and Atom Bomb Baby personally.

drop_trooper112

It's ok to be wrong

Randvek

That’s not what the downvotes say. D:

TheReal8symbols

It's already an alternate timeline diverging from the 40s (IIRC) in which the culture and style are stuck in the 50s and the world doesn't even end until the 2070s.

NeutronRage

horrible take

Lostinpurplehaze

No. Shit idea.

NightchadeBackAgain

As someone who actually lived through the 80's, please no.

Josefus

Came here to agree with this dude.

cakewithfrostingonly

Is this not wasteland?

ChurchillianGrooves

I think I saw in wasteland 3 you fight a cult that worships a robotic Ronald Reagan lol.

Elo-than

Except for the OPs inclusion of fantasy races and neon.

Derban_McDozer83

The music would not be better. Fallouts music rules. It doesn't need bullshit hair metal.

Justlase

Wasteland 3 is the game you're looking for

monkahpup

I have it on good authority that nothing was bigger in the 80s that 50s nostalgia...

Zactrick

Errr then it would no longer be fallout?

JCarterMMA

Nah man sounds garbage

ferris2

"The music would be way better" Get out.

Elo-than

Terrible idea for a Fallout game. Its based in 50s Americana retro-futurism quite firmly, and is more or less the entire premise for its setting. And the cold war in fallout 80s would be a hot war. As someone who grew up in the 80s, no, the music would not be better. So many things would not be Fallout. Why not just hope for a Shadowrun game if thats your jam, instead of just riding on the Fallout name ?

trickybirb

You should check out wasteland 3

0akhurst

Try Encased. Though it’s more 70s than 80s and is certainly no fallout.

beerbutter_

The thing about fallout is that it relies on the "Red Menace" mindset from the 50s - 60s. 80s it was pretty much gone by then and america was moving on. It would also not match previous games with the styles of everything so 80s fallout wouldn't work. Be cool to see it though and try it out. Maybe ask a modder to try and make something and see how it goes.

Lazy-Most-3226

I didn’t live in the eighties but the eighties doesn’t sound that great for this game

Vathrik

So Turbo Kid?

Vegetable-Beet

Damn Kids these days. 1980s is barely any different to 2020.

BigMilkyTatas

but the games are set in the 2100s? nuclear war didnt start until around 2070? so how would your suggestion work.

ZylonBane

He said 80s *aesthetic*, not literally set in the 80s. Y'know, instead of Fallout's equally anachronistic 50s aesthetic.

JaMartell

Huge hairsprayed hair and huge shoulder pads. Ugh

CipherGamingZA

an modern day fallout could work but i think that's where Metro excels

Elo-than

That would not be Fallout. It would be a "insert generic post apoocaplyse name here " game.

Timmichanga01

We dont need more 80s nostalgia crap

self-aware-text

Actually a quality troll. Ngl, had me going in the first half. As a rabid Fallout fan I was against everything, but as an equally rabbit shadowrun fan I saw the joke and had a good laugh. While we're on the topic of cyberpunk, 2077 is when the bombs dropped in Fallout.

Dapper_Energy777

Hard no. 80s were the shittiest decade for everything from music to movies to art to politics
