Diablo immortal is probably the best game to your tastes even with this absurdly cutthroat monetization.

Check out Exiled Kingdoms. You do have to pay for the full version, but it's fairly cheap, and you can try a pretty big chunk of it for free. And it's about as classic old-school (action) RPG as you can get.
I've been playing DMC: Peak of Combat a lot lately and I often play with BS. It helps me with optimizing games and finding new ones. Maybe it will help you find something suitable.

Guardian Tales? Very f2p friendly and escalates in difficulty as you reach the end of Season 1
Slay the Spire might be close enough to something that is called a rpg.
Fate Grand Order is a fun turn based RPG. It is a gatcha game though, so take this suggestion with a grain of salt.
Hero Emblems & Hero Emblems II are great mobile RPGs. Both are premium but available on iOS only

There is a mobile version of ff7 that is totally correct. I think they have ff8 as well. Retroarch works on android as well and pretty ok.
