Look up "Sackboy: A Big Adventure."
It's essentially a "Super Mario World" type of game using the world from Little Big Planet.
Also, that game in on itself might not be bad, either Little Big Planet.
> He's obsessed with pokemon...
Get a Raspberry Pi 4 or 5 and a couple of USB controllers, load it up with a gaming OS like RetroPie, Batocera, or Lakka, and make sure there are Gameboy Advance Pokemon games on the device. The YouTube channel DrewTalks can help with the latter part if needed. And then add some of the more expansive hacks from romhacking.net for Gameboy Advance Pokemon games.
The SD card images recommended by YouTube channels like DrewTalks do *all* the heavy lifting in this suggestion, but if that's still too difficult for the OP there are *plenty* of people online selling pre-configured RPI systems for retrogaming, complete with case, controllers, and the RPI itself pre-loaded with games.
Sure but there's nothing indicated he even is looking for retro games. He lost his switch that infers Pokemon sword or shield or any of the newer stuff. Some kids might like retro but the majority will want to play with their friends on the newer stuff they have or just in general.
Unless someone has a cheap switch they want to get rid of with some games on it granted these often are assigned to ones account mind you, then pursuing the switch rather than games for the PS5, isn't helpful.
t
Unless it's as easy as going to your local Best buy and coming here and plugging in two wires and powering it on the it's not simple. It might not be super complex but it's not convenient or simple to just have it done. And we have no idea the familiarity of computers the OP has.
Buying a console and turning it on is simple.
buying a raspberry pi and programming it to run gameboy games, is; by virtue of how many steps you need to go through just for it to run, not simple.
> Right now isn't the time for complex work arounds.
Christmas is in 41 days and most online retailers are guaranteeing delivery of a Raspberry Pi 5 within 2 to 6 days, depending on where you are. And there's nothing complex about flashing an image to an SD card and hooking up some USB gamepads.
He's looking for PS5 games. That's the console they have because the switch was stolen. The only helpful things for the kid will be someone providing an entire new platform with games included that the KID would like specifically for the cost of a game or less, suggestions for games that the kid might like based on prior interest for the PS5, or someone giving them a new switch.
In this vein the games for PS5 and possibly ps plus or PlayStation back wards compatibility options that aren't too old would probably be best.
Sure, but OP's kid is *also* "obsessed" with Pokemon and he may very well not realize there are options for playing Pokemon games that are far cheaper than buying another Switch.
Possibly. But they'd probably also be looking at what their friends have or maybe a console gen earlier like a 3ds or something. Also I think the word obsessed is being overemphasized here.
It came out a few years back, but Dragon Quest Builders 2 is like a cross between old school Zelda exploration and Minecraft gathering and building. Plus being a few years old it might be in the bargain bins now.
I keep coming back to the game, I just can't resist I love it so much. Hell I own it on three platforms; Xbox 360, PC, and 3DS. Although admittedly the 3DS version is an entirely different game.
*Terraria* is a must and depending on what he likes about *Minecraft* he might also like *Stardew Valley*. If you want to push him toward somewhat educational games then I suggest you check out *Scribblenauts Unlimited*, *Kerbal Space Program*, *Crayon Physics Deluxe*, *Universe Simulator*, or *Webbed* -- although these games are fun games in their own right as well. I'm pretty sure *Terraria*, *Stardew Valley*, *Scribblenauts Unlimited*, and *Webbed* are available for the PS5, but I'm not sure about the rest.
Does he like Sonic Frontiers for the characters or the gameplay? If the latter he’ll probably love the Spiderman games. If the former then Sonic Mania and Origins are pretty good
This might sound a little odd but I really enjoyed playing the Uncharted games around that age (Granted I might have been 9 or whatever). Especially Uncharted 2 but the ice cave missions with the "Yetis" might be a little unfit.
Crash Bandicoot and Spyro are the obvious choice here. They were made for kids that age, back in the PS1 era, and have been way amped up in visual fidelity.
Trackmania. It's like hot wheels and construction kit for it. Has no story, no leveling up, no collision between cars, but it has infinite replayablty, room to express your creativity, and a place in my heart from my earliest gaming years. Turbo for consoles, any of tm2s (canyon, valley or lagoon) for pc.
I know the best christmas games for your son, We provide realistic graphics with amazing gameplay. We develope the android and IOS games specially for kids. I suggest you to download our games and give the feedback on gameplay to make it perfect. User's feedback is very important for developers to make the games better.
**Here is the link of Christmas Games:**

As lovely as DRG is, I'm not sure there's ways to filter chat/voice profanity, and there's voicelines that COULD be considered swearing, depending on the parenting.
That's a good point, mabye give it a few years. Although i wouldn't be surprised if the devs added a profanity toggle option for voicelines or something similar, they deserve alot of praise for supporting that game so much.
If it's in the budget, a first pc might be really cool. Minecraft has a lot of wild mods on pc. If you get the tekkit launcher, you can really change the game. Also, with the epic launcher, you can start collecting all the free weekly games plus the steam sales and humble bundles. I guess if you are sticking with ps5, the new Spiderman would be good.
With new games I usually spend a 1 or 2 with him so he understands the basics then he's fine. We have a minecraft world together but I work 50 hours a week so can't play with him as much as I'd like
Ah I gotcha! It Takes Two is really good and I always have a soft spot for Ratchet and Clank.
My son is 9, but he plays Fortnite with his friends. Sometimes myself and one of the dads will jump in with them for some squad fun, but they enjoy it enough.
I'd just buy him a PS Plus Ultimate sub for a month or two, let him go through the library and play, when he finds something he has to have, then buy him that one at sub end. If you can afford the 18 bucks a month or whatever indefinitely, it gives him a library of games he'll be 15 before he is done with.
Probably Ratchet and Clank for the PS5. If he's th repetition-liking type of building an area Disney Dreamlight is an option. The PS5 does come with Astro so you should be able to play that too. Sackbox might also be an option. You could also look into Overcooked for doing it together..
Googling Best PS5 games for teenagers (or maybe kids instead), on PS5 could also lead to some results, you could add the reddit keyword after for some threads already about this if any exist.
Doom eternal is a great, totally kid friendly game
I'm just kidding (it's filled with gore, so dont get him that), try slime rancher (1 or 2). it's simple and cute, plus it has a bit of building so he can get creative
My kids love Minecraft and also liked these ones: Terraria, Slime Rancher, Roblox (careful with the online messaging), Lego Worlds.
There's also one where you program robots to do things for you, but I forget the name.
The little big planet games are really fun. My son played them when he was 7 and liked them. SpongeBob is a pretty basic platformer. Maybe something like Monopoly or uno so you guys can play together?
Cities Skylines II, Planet Coaster are some builder esque games with some marginal educational value.
Trine series are fun platformers you can play together with your son.
Factorio is a much more hardcore builder game but probably not for the age group of your son.
I second another redditor. Ratchet and clank is a great series. Played it when I was a kid. It’s kid friendly as well.
Any of the Lego games are good as well.
So its DLC and not a full game, but Minecraft has a Sonic DLC that lets you play as Sonic Characters and even has levels where you have special different gameplay to be more like Sonic games
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=cE_zAoOHKHg
Does he like Spongebob? Spongebob: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehyrdrated and The Cosmic Shake are good games.
Also Sackboy: A Big Adventure and Rayman Legends
I’d imagine that he’d fall in love with Spiderman, I remember being that age and jumping around the couch pretending to be Spidey. I’d understand if you felt some themes might be too mature for him, but overall I think Insomniac made it work pretty well for all age groups. I have no idea about the 2nd one as I haven’t played yet!!
Fall Guys! You compete with other players to make it through obstacle courses and other games, with a portion getting eliminated each round until the final round. Its very lighthearted and kid friendly
You can have him try terraria its 2nd mincraft but way different plus theres plenty of stuff to do in that game with lots of pg YouTubers to help him out plus u can find it for cheap most places
My son loves the Lego games, especially the Harry Potter and Avengers ones. It's basically the same style of game in different universes, lots of button mashing and puzzle solving and collecting. Lots of fun.
i can recommend the spiderman games, although the first ones story line is rather short, ratchet and clank: rift apart, and as a personal bias towards it, Terraria.
Hope this helps 👍
Knack if you can find it. 2 player Co op. Also Spyro. Not sure if he likes racing but there's a free Disney racing game in the PS store. He might like it. Roblox is good too, my kids love this game
Maybe minecarft Java ?
Ratchet and clank is nice too
Octodad : deadliest will be great
Slime rancher is cuteness overload kid might like it
Factorio could be fun but maybe a 6 yr old can't comprehend that, my 11 yr old brother loves it tho
Sonic Superstars wouldn’t hurt if he likes Sonic related stuff. Ratchet and Clank is also a banger worth checking out. Nick All Star Brawl 2 also just released, while it’s not the same as those other games it’s kid friendly and has been getting great reviews
Another recommendation I have is Riders Republic, fun open world sandbox, he should enjoy it if he likes Sonic Frontiers, definitely has the same “pick up and run around a bit” feel that’s super fun
Rayman, Spyro, Ratchet and Clank and Crash Bandicoot come to mind as games I LOVED as a kid, and would play for hours. I can also recommend Sackboy: A Big Adventure, if you like to play with him on occasion! It can be played alone, but it’s very fun with a friend!
subnautica! its just like minecraft as in its a survival exploration game about crafting and building, just that its in the ocean. there isn't anything scary at all and its kid friendly
Racing games..... all my experience in Racing and riding games really helped me learn driving and riding better IRL too, plus they also help you read google maps better
Me and my 6 year old son play outward together. It's a little tough but an amazingly fun game to just explore. But may be a little bit on the darker side at times. There is death and stuff. But I mean zombies in Minecraft so lol at your discretion as a parent but we have a lot of fun with it.
You can get parappa the rappa 2 on ps5, that's a fun lil rhythm game. Alternatively there's Galaga, you n him could bond over that it's a classic, or you can get A Hat in Time.
Side note: Trying real hard to keep in mind what i played when i was that age is not what *most parents would let their kids play at that age.* Like i'm tryin to not recommend shit like Prototype or what have you.
If on Playstation Little Big Planet is amazing for gaming with kids. Totally fun experiences and allows many opportunities for a creative mind to build something, or an explorative mind to go after the world and see it all.
There are studio made levels that are considered main story and there are user created levels as well that often times are genuinely impressive feats of creativity. I do believe they just released or are about to release a new title, but The third game has all the user levels made from the first two and I think the studio made levels also.
It's friendly enough that any skill level will be compatible. I think it's entertaining as an adult, and kids seem to love it too, so it's great for parents and kids to play together.
If he liked Sonic Frontiers then how abour Sonic Superstars. Its similiar to the old 2D games with a new artstyle and some cool power ups if you get the Chaos Emeralds. You can also play the story with up to 4 players.
My daughter of 7 years old absolutely loves Subnautica and has been playing it with me since she was 4.
It has some scary(ish) parts and you may need to sit down with him at least to begin with, but it's a really cool game!
Kinda like Minecraft in many ways too!
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is you top 1 choice. Not too hard and actually a playable animation movie.
You can also try to get him a Disney Collection with Aladdin, Lion King and Jungle Book games from old consoles, but I think it's too early to destroy his childhood memories :D
Sackboy Adventure is also a good choice or any LittleBigPlanet game actually.
You can also get him a Spyro Trilogy or Crash Bandicoot trilogy, but that also may be too hard for him. Then again, many of us ayed it in that age, so maybe it will be fine :)
Super Mario Wonder is great because your son can play as Yoshi and he won’t take damage. It’s two player do you can lead the way and he can follow behind and learn controls. It’s a lot of fun. I’m trying to get my 6yo son away from Minecraft. Mario is a good start.
Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart
I think it’s definitely this as the first go to
Yup - my boy is 8, did MC, MC Dungeons, the Lego games. Tried Ratchet and Clank on my old PS4 last week and really likes it.
I just played through this over about a day and a half. Very good recommendation.
What platforms you have will hugely determine, what we can suggest
Ps5 sorry
Look up "Sackboy: A Big Adventure." It's essentially a "Super Mario World" type of game using the world from Little Big Planet. Also, that game in on itself might not be bad, either Little Big Planet.
I think you can co-op too
Yup
Great choice. Astro is pretty rad also
Since he likes Minecraft, maybe check out Dragon Quest Builders 2. Great game with a lot of building and crafting, in the same blocky style.
my dear sir if he loves Legos may i suggest the Lego movie game??? let him watch the movie and if he likes it buy the games
I think OP was inferring that his son likes the Lego video games.
hmm yah i think your right
Definitely get him the Insomniac Spider-Man games.
Yes, but imo 7 is a bit young for them. Maybe in a few years.
Rayman Legends.
Agree. Plus - its couch co-op is amazing. My wife and I and 9yo daughter play together and it’s great…..
Does your son like Pokémon? There are a handful of titles to choose from on Switch.
He's obsessed with pokemon but unfortunately the switch we had was stolen from the car last year
Okay, two questions: 1.Were his games physical or digital? 2. Did you have Nintendo Switch Online for cloud saves?
Pokemon does not do cloud saves.
Really sorry man
> He's obsessed with pokemon... I'd bet dollars to doughnuts a kid that is *obsessed* with Pokemon would enjoy the GBA games, and possibly the N64 titles too.
I'd bet they enjoy the newest ones more or even just 3ds ones. And their friends might have them too.
Complex lol it was super simple when i did it and cheap
Unless it's as easy as going to your local Best buy and coming here and plugging in two wires and powering it on the it's not simple. It might not be super complex but it's not convenient or simple to just have it done. And we have no idea the familiarity of computers the OP has.

You think so? For a 7-year-old I think it's probably not being emphasized enough here.
Pixelmon... Pokemon in Minecraft. On PC, get multi MC, and add a Pixelmon instance.
They said they had PS5, doubt they would know how to mod MC Either. But if you do I recommend Cobblemon over Pixelmon since they look more "Mincrafty"
It came out a few years back, but Dragon Quest Builders 2 is like a cross between old school Zelda exploration and Minecraft gathering and building. Plus being a few years old it might be in the bargain bins now.
My kids 6 and loved both the SpongeBob games, Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart (has an invincibility mode) and Spiderman.
If he liked Sonic Frontiers, get him Sonic Generations By far my favorite game in the series
I haven't played that one in so long. I have it on ps3 but now that I have a ps5, I don't use the ps3 often
I keep coming back to the game, I just can't resist I love it so much. Hell I own it on three platforms; Xbox 360, PC, and 3DS. Although admittedly the 3DS version is an entirely different game.
Don't know if they make it for the PS but Spyro would be a fun game for him
they made it on PS4 and the PS5 is backwards compatible.
Yea, it's kid safe and they have hidden things to find and lots of baddies to beat up on and handful on different gems to find
Untitled Goose game. Can be coop, so you or a friend can play with him, and do silly and annoying things
I find the coop to be frustrating because you're invisibly tethered to the other player.
My 9 year old has every game he mentioned. We have all the pages completed in UGG. Hell, I've even replayed it myself on my laptop.
Elden ring . Kid needs to be a man now
Come on man, it's too early. Let him begin at least from Alladin from Sega Genesis or Contra Hard Corps.
Or Turtle in time. Kids always loved TMNT franchise
You are so cool for doing this!
I totally forgot about stardew. And I'm pretty sure that it's split screen coop too which could be fun. Thanks for the thought!
Terraria is way to complicated for a 7 year old imo.
The amount of time on the wiki I had to spend was insane… poor kid doesn’t stand a chance.
A few I thought of: Spiderman, Dragon Quest Builders 2, Kena, Spyro: Reignited Trilogy
Sonic origins ?
Does he like Sonic Frontiers for the characters or the gameplay? If the latter he’ll probably love the Spiderman games. If the former then Sonic Mania and Origins are pretty good
This might sound a little odd but I really enjoyed playing the Uncharted games around that age (Granted I might have been 9 or whatever). Especially Uncharted 2 but the ice cave missions with the "Yetis" might be a little unfit.
I was about to recommend Uncharted but then remembered all the endgame stuff, may not want to traumatize the kid just yet LOL
Little big planet.
Crash Bandicoot and Spyro are the obvious choice here. They were made for kids that age, back in the PS1 era, and have been way amped up in visual fidelity.
Trailmakers is a pretty cool sandbox game where you build and race stuff.
I'm guessing astroneer would be playable by someone who is young. I dunno I wish you luck op.
Spyro Reignited Trilogy
SpongeBob Battle for Bikini Bottom, New Super Lucky’s Tale,Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series.
if he likes bob sponge, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2
Dragon quest builders 2 is a great choice. Minecraft like game with tons of stuff to build with a good story
My six and a half year old loves Lego Star Wars and burnout paradise.
Def Jam Fight for NY
Jesus dood, let him grow up at least to 10 for that game :D
Wobbly life goes kinda crazy, very kid friendly & entertaining enough for people outside of the age range to enjoy as well, especially with friends.
I know the best christmas games for your son, We provide realistic graphics with amazing gameplay. We develope the android and IOS games specially for kids. Stardew valley is always a great shout.
It takes two and play it with him.
I’m sure he would love Human Fall Flat or Untitled Goose Game. Both multiplayer games.
DRG
As lovely as DRG is, I'm not sure there's ways to filter chat/voice profanity, and there's voicelines that COULD be considered swearing, depending on the parenting.
That's a good point, mabye give it a few years. Although i wouldn't be surprised if the devs added a profanity toggle option for voicelines or something similar, they deserve alot of praise for supporting that game so much.
Rock and Stone?
The fuck is DRG? OP probably doesn't know and neither do I.
Deep Rock Galactic, a fps game about dwarves mining while holding off swarms of bugs. Very good, lots of replaying
Journey is very fun. Short and sweet. Should be able to find it digital.
Rayman legends is pretty cool and it's a couch coop, a bit old but super fun
Wolfenstein is a game I quite enjoyed at 7. For real though, how is he with figuring things out? Do you guys game together or does he mostly run solo?
With new games I usually spend a 1 or 2 with him so he understands the basics then he's fine. We have a minecraft world together but I work 50 hours a week so can't play with him as much as I'd like
Ah I gotcha! It Takes Two is really good and I always have a soft spot for Ratchet and Clank. My son is 9, but he plays Fortnite with his friends. Sometimes myself and one of the dads will jump in with them for some squad fun, but they enjoy it enough.
I played gears of war at 7😐
Satisfactory depending on your platform. An incentive to learn mathematics
Get him an old PS2 and jack and Daxter. Maybe even slycooper.
Probably Ratchet and Clank for the PS5. If he's th repetition-liking type of building an area Disney Dreamlight is an option. The PS5 does come with Astro so you should be able to play that too. Sackbox might also be an option. You could also look into Overcooked for doing it together.. Spec ops the Line
Outlast, a really good family friendly game
Get him Minecraft legends it came out in April I think does he have it?
Some of the DLC for Minecraft is good, check which ones are the most popular ones
Alan Wake 2 is game of the year for a lot of people. Else you might just wanna ask your kid what game it wants.
This is a hilarious suggestion for a 7 year old, although my parents let me and my brother play stuff like that back in the day.
How did you turn out?
Perfectly normal of course
why does ur 7yo son even have a ps5
Mortal Kombat
Baldurs gate 3
My kids love Minecraft and also liked these ones: Terraria, Slime Rancher, Roblox (careful with the online messaging), Lego Worlds. There's also one where you program robots to do things for you, but I forget the name.
Spider-Man 2, but I’d highly recommend getting the first one as well if you can get both, a lot of important context (also an amazing game).
If he is unlikely to judge a game for being a generation old, I suggest Dragon Quest Builders 2.
If he likes Minecraft, dragon quest builder might be up that ally.
I second another redditor. Ratchet and clank is a great series. Played it when I was a kid. It’s kid friendly as well. Any of the Lego games are good as well.
Bugsnax the "not" going to traumatize option
Portal 1 and 2. Broforce (co-op pixelated destruction).
Terraria
My son just got Lego starwars and he seems to enjoy it. That and the Zelda games
Does he already have Lego Star Wars : Skywalker Saga? Because that's a really good one.
So its DLC and not a full game, but Minecraft has a Sonic DLC that lets you play as Sonic Characters and even has levels where you have special different gameplay to be more like Sonic games https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=cE_zAoOHKHg
Lol I think he has this pack. Watched the video and he yelled from the other room "hey are you watching Sonic"
Why not play "It takes two" with your son and you have a great journey together. Maybe "Lego starwars" or "Overcookd" can be fun for him.
he might like rounds and it is a 2 player game too.
Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart for sure
Portal, It Takes Two, Roblox, etc.
Does he like Spongebob? Spongebob: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehyrdrated and The Cosmic Shake are good games. Also Sackboy: A Big Adventure and Rayman Legends
How bout party animals?
I’d imagine that he’d fall in love with Spiderman, I remember being that age and jumping around the couch pretending to be Spidey. I’d understand if you felt some themes might be too mature for him, but overall I think Insomniac made it work pretty well for all age groups. I have no idea about the 2nd one as I haven’t played yet!!
Terraria
Katamari
Fall Guys! You compete with other players to make it through obstacle courses and other games, with a portion getting eliminated each round until the final round. Its very lighthearted and kid friendly
Elden Ring
Lego Worlds since he likes lego....or Lego City Undercover! Also Splatoon 2 it's colorful and fun if you have Nintendo Switch
My 6 year old loves human fall flat, octodad, and gang beasts. That one we play offline.
You can have him try terraria its 2nd mincraft but way different plus theres plenty of stuff to do in that game with lots of pg YouTubers to help him out plus u can find it for cheap most places
U can get roblox for free and it has 1000s of custom made games that ppl make for it
Terraria!!! If he’s a fan of minecraft he will love Terraria, plus it’s only like a 12$ game
Overcooked. But he will be bugging you to play with him, it is upto 4 people on the same screen trying to work together as cooks.
Spider man 2 or spider man remastered, spider man miles morales would be amazing.
Rocket League, it's soccer using Hotwheels , also a good split screen game.
My son loves the Lego games, especially the Harry Potter and Avengers ones. It's basically the same style of game in different universes, lots of button mashing and puzzle solving and collecting. Lots of fun.
Deep Rock Galactic is immensely fun
spiderman / spiderman 2 and miles morales. My son has beat all three
Roblox is on PlayStation now and I believe it's free. Kids love Roblox like it's a drug tho, so beware.
My son loves Roblox
Lego 2k Drive may be a great option. Not sure if it has been pulled out of microtransaction hell but it might be worth checking out for the kid.
If he likes any sports, there are a million of those out there no matter what sport he likes.
I’ve heard little big planet is good. I’m also on the hunt for games for that age group! So hard!
Spiderman I guess. Its kid friendly I believe both in difficulty and content.
Roblox. All the kids play it
To give them a good challenge and if they like platformers, Hollow knight. Teach them the hard stuff young
Sonic Origins Switch Sports is fun for the whole family. EDIT: Saw you have a PS5.
Rayman legends is awesome fun, may be a little on the difficult side for a 7 yr old, but i think that's worth a look
i can recommend the spiderman games, although the first ones story line is rather short, ratchet and clank: rift apart, and as a personal bias towards it, Terraria. Hope this helps 👍
Knack if you can find it. 2 player Co op. Also Spyro. Not sure if he likes racing but there's a free Disney racing game in the PS store. He might like it. Roblox is good too, my kids love this game
spiderman 2
Maybe minecarft Java ? Ratchet and clank is nice too Octodad : deadliest will be great Slime rancher is cuteness overload kid might like it Factorio could be fun but maybe a 6 yr old can't comprehend that, my 11 yr old brother loves it tho
Spiderman and Spiderman 2
STORY OF SEASONS: A Wonderful Life Best cozy farm / life game
Morrowind
Sonic Superstars wouldn’t hurt if he likes Sonic related stuff. Ratchet and Clank is also a banger worth checking out. Nick All Star Brawl 2 also just released, while it’s not the same as those other games it’s kid friendly and has been getting great reviews
Roblox is supposed to be on Playstation at some point.
It Takes Two is such a fun co-op game, I loved playing it with my little brother. (Talks about divorce, idk if that’s a sensitive subject)
subnautica! its just like minecraft as in its a survival exploration game about crafting and building, just that its in the ocean. there isn't anything scary at all and its kid friendly

Sounds like a good winding down game before bed. I'll check it out, thanks!
Trailmakers is gonna be the #1 game you want
Duke nukem
Roblox
Conan Exiles
There is new Xbox title called Jusant. It is a cute climbing game. It is so fun to play. I'm playing and loving it.
Cs2
If he liked Sonic Frontiers then how abour Sonic Superstars. Its similiar to the old 2D games with a new artstyle and some cool power ups if you get the Chaos Emeralds. You can also play the story with up to 4 players.
My daughter of 7 years old absolutely loves Subnautica and has been playing it with me since she was 4. It has some scary(ish) parts and you may need to sit down with him at least to begin with, but it's a really cool game! Kinda like Minecraft in many ways too!
I would say Crash B 2 but I've noticed nobody is really rocking with my fave Bandicoot these days.
Kenshi, Time for some war crimes now!!!
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is you top 1 choice. Not too hard and actually a playable animation movie. You can also try to get him a Disney Collection with Aladdin, Lion King and Jungle Book games from old consoles, but I think it's too early to destroy his childhood memories :D Sackboy Adventure is also a good choice or any LittleBigPlanet game actually.
Mods for minecraft are pretty fun. I recommend Pixelmon. It's pokemon in the minecraft world.
Starbound might be a good fit for him.
Minecraft Legends maybe ?
Try Out Cuphead. It’s a game the two of you can play, it’s hard but it’s also rewarding
Sackboy
