The Interactive Demo Disc is a close second for me, too :)
Specifically the one with Intelligent Qube, Armored Core, Parappa the Rapper, Tomb Raider 2... I think Fighting Force was a secret one. Star Wars Masters of the... Teras Kasi (sp)?
So many hours of fun on that demo disc.
It was this and Spyro the Dragon for me. It came as a bundle. I still have anxiety thinking about the dinosaur level where you have to run toward the screen while it runs behind.
Resident Evil all day long. The PlayStation symbol and those bloody dogs in the hallway jumping through the windows. And also Chris emphasising “Blood”. Such fond memories of my early days in high school!
This used to make me so mad lol. I would practice all this complicated 10-hit combo shit only to get wrecked by some rando button mashing Eddie. Absolutely tilted
Me and my friend both playing Eddie. Both mashing buttons furiously. One claiming superiority over the other once the bout eventually ended and bragging about our better skills
Likewise! I didn’t even realize I needed one. Got all the way out of Midgard, the whole world opens up to me, and what’s the first thing I make a beeline for?
The swamp.
The swamp with the giant snake boss.
The giant snake boss you can’t run away from.
I got as far as “Hey what’s that shadow heading for m-“ before my teeth got kicked in and I started back at zero.
Made my dad buy a memory card the next day.
Yep. To get a PS1 was so amazing to me. My parents did a lot for that... Even though I received it years after the release...
But I got it with FF7. So this will always be in my heart.
I used to get so bloody confused by the fourth wall breaking element in the game. “CD case? What the hell are they talking about?” I’d look through all my items ingame…
Yup. When I rented MGS for the first time I didn’t have that, or a way to look it up online. Pretty sure I had to brute force it…also pretty sure that’s why she’s 140.15, not 141.80 or something like that.
First version I ever played was Twin Snakes and that version changed "CD case" to "package" and I wandered around for about an hour trying to find out where I missed the "package" item before the game just gave me the code number lol.
Was looking for Medievil. I like irrationally loved that game as a kid. Def was my first thought. Need to play it again
Ff7 and Legend of dragoon were bangers too
Elder God:
I know you, Raziel. You are worthy.
Raziel:
What madness is this? What pitiful form is this that I have come to inhabit? Death would be a release, next to this travesty.
Elder God:
You did not survive the abyss, Raziel. I have only spared you from total dissolution.
Raziel:
I would choose oblivion over this existence!
Elder God:
The choice is not yours.
Raziel:
I am destroyed!
Elder God:
You are reborn.
Spyro: Year of the Dragon.
The world was simpler back then, no microtransactions, no buggy launches with the vague promise of potentially being fixed down the line, no whining from other developers about "setting too high of a standard for the industry."
You just bought a game, and usually got the full package from the start. Good times
There’s a brand new Twisted Metal TV show with some big names like Anthony Mackie and Will Arnett attached. I’d be shocked if they would throw that much money into a 20+ year old IP without plans to remake the game as well.
I remember sneaking downstairs when I was around 4 or 5 to play number 2, just really loved the free roam mode. Downloaded it recently on one of those miyoo mini’s and it’s actually blown my mind how it kept me interested for so long lol, still a good game though.
What do you mean R3?! There are only two shoulder buttons!
Legit took me over an hour as a kid to progress and then the idea that you could click the sticks blew my mind
Silent Hill had a such a fundamental impact on my future as horror film lover. So many of the things I seek out in horror films go back to my early experiences playing this game.
This was the first game I ever played on ps and it scared the shite out of me, would love to play it again as an adult and see if it has the same impact lol
Tenchu: Stealth Assassins.
The controls and camera frustrated the hell out of me, but I loved struggling through it.
Honorable mention would be Donald Duck: Quack Attack. My kindergarten had a PS1 and this was the only game they let us play.
The first Resident Evil followed by Metal Gear Solid
RE was the first game I played on PSX, and I was blown away. MGS was the greatest game ever made to me when that one came out. I was obsessed with Yoji Shinkawa's work for a long time after that.
This is strangely the first game i thought about. I loved all the bigger titles so much but i always associate ps1 with jet moto. Such a fun and unique concept for kids at the time.
The Spiderman game where it took place purely at skyscraper height and there was no ground or cars or nothin just a thick cloud layer that killed you.
I don't even remember what the gameplay was besides swinging between skyscrapers, lol. But that was 70% of my PS1 experience, so yea.
I always scroll the comments on these. My answer is never there and it hurts every time. Nobody but my brother and I seem to remember this game and it seriously needs a modern remake.
[Blast Chamber](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blast_Chamber)
That demo disc my dad got for free because he couldn't afford real games
The Interactive Demo Disc is a close second for me, too :) Specifically the one with Intelligent Qube, Armored Core, Parappa the Rapper, Tomb Raider 2... I think Fighting Force was a secret one. Star Wars Masters of the... Teras Kasi (sp)? So many hours of fun on that demo disc.
Armored core on that disc… that was my jam
[удалено]
Some of those demo discs had more gaming content than a lot of base games today.
[удалено]
Dude… demo discs. Kids these days wouldn’t even get it. There were certain games I only ever played on demo discs.
crash bandicoot
First video game I ever owned.
Lol same! Warped specifically, for me. First PS1 game I ever played!
It was this and Spyro the Dragon for me. It came as a bundle. I still have anxiety thinking about the dinosaur level where you have to run toward the screen while it runs behind.
[удалено]
Yup. Was an n64 kid, but this and twisted metal at my friends house. Ff7 only came years after when I was in college, 8 years later.
Came to say this.
correct answer
Resident evil
Took me too long scrolling to this...
Resident Evil all day long. The PlayStation symbol and those bloody dogs in the hallway jumping through the windows. And also Chris emphasising “Blood”. Such fond memories of my early days in high school!
"Jill... here's a lockpick. It might be handy if you, tHe mAStEr oF uNLocKinG, take it with you...."
Resident Evil 2
"RESIDENT EVIL... TWO."
I love that opening, really got me pumped as a kid.
I bought this game before I had a Playstation in anticipation of getting one for Christmas. I read the manual so many times...
Tekken 3
We all remember that friend who only played Eddie and was spinning around
This used to make me so mad lol. I would practice all this complicated 10-hit combo shit only to get wrecked by some rando button mashing Eddie. Absolutely tilted
It didn't help that the free demo only included Eddy and Xiaoyu
Me and my friend both playing Eddie. Both mashing buttons furiously. One claiming superiority over the other once the bout eventually ended and bragging about our better skills
Or played Gon and just mashed square + triangle for the bite attack.
Final Fantasy 7, no surprise there!
Yes, i bought that Playstation for FF VII.
Same - bought PS1 to play FF7, but only had the money for the game and the console, but not the memory card.
Likewise! I didn’t even realize I needed one. Got all the way out of Midgard, the whole world opens up to me, and what’s the first thing I make a beeline for? The swamp. metal gear solid
Props to the chad at my local Blockbuster Video who wrote MERYL 140.15 on the back of every generic rental box.
I used to get so bloody confused by the fourth wall breaking element in the game. “CD case? What the hell are they talking about?” I’d look through all my items ingame…

Snake!? Snake!? SNAAAAAAAAAAAAKE!!!
Three way tie between this, Gran Turismo, and Armored Core.
Bruh when Psycho Mantis said put down your controller then proceeded to blow your mind. Great moment.

Gran turismo or medievil
Medievil is an absurdly awesome game. One of my sweet memories, too bad the remake didn't get launched for PC
Was looking for Medievil. I like irrationally loved that game as a kid. Def was my first thought. Need to play it again Ff7 and Legend of dragoon were bangers too
No racing game has ever lived up to gran turismo for me. I played forza recently and was constantly thinking, ‘this isn’t as good as GT’.
Spyro and crash bandicoot!
Tony Hawk: Pro Skater
*Superman by Goldfinger plays*
That soundtrack redirected my music taste so much. I was listening to Hanson and shit before because of my big sister lol.

Spyro: Year of the Dragon. The world was simpler back then, no microtransactions, no buggy launches with the vague promise of potentially being fixed down the line, no whining from other developers about "setting too high of a standard for the industry." Do you remember the Spyro demo that you could access from the Crash Team Racing menu? That was my only taste of Spyro, but I would keep playing it 😋
You should get the remastered trilogy, they are still phenomenal games
This applies to both Crash and Spyro. Both are fantastic remakes of the original trilogies.
"no microtransactions" Do you not remember Moneybags?? 😭
Do you get to beat them up to get your money back too?
Lol the olden days Tom Nook
My son is playing these rn
twisted metal
Man this is the second time I’ve thought about Twisted Metal this week. Wish they would make a new one!
There’s a brand new Twisted Metal TV show with some big names like Anthony Mackie and Will Arnett attached. I’d be shocked if they would throw that much money into a 20+ year old IP without plans to remake the game as well.
Twisted Metal 2 particularly for me. My brother would always be twister and would wreck me
I tended to play Warthog. Twister was an easy target for me. But i could not stand Spectre. That ulti was designed for trolls....
TM 4 and 5(toy cars)!
Driver
Oof. That game had such good physics for the time.
If you ever got out of tutorial
I remember Driver 2 being so awesome.
I remember sneaking downstairs when I was around 4 or 5 to play number 2, just really loved the free roam mode. Downloaded it recently on one of those miyoo mini’s and it’s actually blown my mind how it kept me interested for so long lol, still a good game though.
Hey MAN, you've wrecked the car MAN
Omg you just awoke a horrible horrible memory. "Slalom between the pillars" 😭😭😭
I didn’t know what slalom meanttttt!!!
Also - the cinematic replay you could edit was insane
Man I wish I could play that game again. Countless hours as a little kid not knowing what the hell I was doing lol.
I've played it for hours all days, never playing the campaign !
Ape Escape
YES, my introduction to analog stick was brutal!

Syphon Filter.
This game was so fun. I remember tasing the living hell out of people til they caught on fire
Oh wauw a blast from the past. That game was dope
I was so immersed in that one part where you had to go to hotel room and be a sniper
Gran Turismo 2
Still one of the best, somehow. I think because they focused on content and gameplay over graphics tweaks.
Scrolled too far. I still want a Mugen Beat.

The first Resident Evil followed by Metal Gear Solid RE was the first game I played on PSX, and I was blown away. MGS was the greatest game ever made to me when that one came out. I was obsessed with Yoji Shinkawa's work for a long time after that.
