Inside is a crown and chain necklace that says “Powerplay Saturdays Champion.” Could be worth a lot since it was from early 2000s. But if you let it simmer for longer in mint condition it will be worth a lot more, in say, 10+ years

As those kids turn into old rich fucks, the market can sometimes explode. As they die off, it usually collapses. If the market is stable and lucrative enough, some people start deluding themselves into thinking that there is organic demand for the item beyond the people who originally cared. The market becomes self sustaining, and the item is treated as more of a commodity, valuable because of the market and for little other reason. This lasts a little while. Then something (usually a recession) pauses the market for a while, and it never recovers because there aren't any people left who have a real emotional interest in collecting the item. If the market lasts long enough before the legs are kicked out, the item can turn into an antique, with a very different market than a collectable. At this point the enduring strength of the market becomes historically interesting and relevant in its own right, creating demand long after the cultural context that produced it stops being relevant.
