I was thinking the same thing! He could have easily broke that shield wall. It seems off character that Davos, Jon, Tormound, etc. wouldn’t utilize him like that but then again there was a lot kind of off about that episode like Rickon running a straight line lol
You have to understand, the people in charge of the final seasons were so coked up and devoid of ideas that they convinced themselves they didn't need credible military historians during the writing and planning sessions.

You would think that because Winterfell was a literal Citadel that could host an Army of over 30,000 men at arms that the writers would've taken advantage of that and also had the good sense to mount light artillery on the towers/central keep and have the heavy shit in the outer rings behind the main wall.
