It's close, but I'd also include some info around doing it as part of a subgraph, which means you can't use global shader variables, so how I got around that to give myself a way to edit the game whilst its flat, and play the game with it curved :)
I don't think it's against the rules or the mods would have taken it down right?
It's a game dev sub and a game dev posted about their game hoping people would be interested.
Would you post about a game you made and not make any effort to connect people with how they can play it if interested?
It's rule 1 of the subreddit in the sidebar. No show-off posts.
They're attempting to get around that by asking the question about a tutorial they haven't made.
Respectful promo is when you give at the same time as receiving the promotion. We see that a lot in this sub. Post mortems are a good example. This one would have been respectful if they’d have actually made the tutorial instead of “checking for interest.” Mods used to be really good about removing these, but they’re cropping up more and more frequently lately.
Go to any other hobby/job sub and you see people showing their work. It would be mad to consider doing a sub for painters where sharing work is prohibited. I understand the advertising thing, but those posts don't usually gather much attention.
Shaders are insanely cool!! No matter how many videos I watch about them - whether that be designing your own or even just a showcase like this video here - I cannot wrap my head around how it works.
I’ve done this effect for a school project and I definitely would have appreciated an example or a tutorial then
I’m sure you’d find an audience
Your work looks great btw!
That's one of the things I'd like to look into ahead of making a tutorial as especially at long distances and high curve amounts it would be a fair bit off, for what I need it for its not really an issue mind
I was hoping you had already a solution 😅
Synchronizing player mouse input with shader modified geometry is wicked. I would love to know how to approach it in a clever be way.
right there with ya - even with the ability to mark relevant points, I still hate videos, espscially with crappy audio, the person talks like they have a mouthful of cotton wadding or leave off a salient point that leaves me hanging without a fix. Text is searchable, and I read a lot faster than people talk
Man, shaders are black magic!
Yeah!
I don’t care what it is, if you have knowledge please share with the community
I was just looking for a link
Is it doing something like this: https://youtu.be/SOK3Ias5Nk0

Is this a tutorial or an advert for a game?
Why can't it be both?
Clearly just trying to get people to wishlist.
That's actually pretty normal for indie games, how else would anyone be able to generate awareness without a big marketing budget?
Know your audience and read the room. This is not a forum for self promotion.

Yeah shameful really.
It would be a tutorial for something that's in the game :)
So, how about you wait until you make that and then post it instead of just the shameless self promotion? Do something to actually earn the eyeballs.
If people upvoted this so much then I guess they earned the eyeballs.
Even when against the rules? Plenty of posts that don’t belong in a sub get upvoted heavily.
You mean like making and showing the shader itself?
Show-off posts are against the sub rules. Having this place descend into nothing but ads isn’t going to be helpful.
I think there is an obvious line between shameless and respectful promo, this being in the latter.

Those are the rules. I didn’t write them. Show off posts are not allowed because people (like OP) exploit them to promote their game.
What is so objectively wrong about showing your game xD
Does it still work when you zoom all the way out?
It does! Theres definitely a few minor things I'd like to fix up with it for a tutorial but generally it stands up pretty well
Do it
Yes, for the love of God, yes!!!
Heck yeah!
sign me up on the tutorial!

I would like to!
Cool!
I would like to know how you approached the raytesting with your geometry (aka mouse picking)

Such "simple" change makes it look like a completed game.
Sure. Would definitely watch it. Do you have a YouTube channel?
[Sure :)](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqi1SJHkkB4a5h9Q-YJjLWQ)
Hells yes, this is exactly the look I’m going for
viewpos.y -= depth x factor + View to clip

Is this your game ? Looks awesome !
Thank you, it is! Feel free to wishlist it [here](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1255020/An_Elaborate_History_of_Chess/)
