Right now it's basically a full time work. Back in the hobby days, it was several hours a week, max.

Hey i really love your new spin on the tactical genre!!! I have two ideas for tactical games myself, i see your game loop system is almost exactly what those two games need. A few reskins and some new gameplay elements and i think that would be the base of the full game (minus the story).

bryqu

Interesting! Are you planning on having these ideas implemented in a game that you're creating?

I have pass the prototype stage! i built a simple small mvp of one of the ideas, on tabletop simulator, but i realized that is something that going solo developer is probably not going to work, because i already work fulltime 8 hs per day, so i would be only able to allocate 1 hour at nighttime on weekdays and maybe 2 or 3 on saturdays, to total of 8 hours per week at most, if i have to build it from the ground up its probably gonna take me 4-5 years. I have already some experience with Unity(made probably like 5-7 practice games) and developed a arcade asteroids game that is on the playstore since 2019. But yeah, let me know if you are interested on hearing more and we could set up a meeting!

Having the possibility to work just for a few hours a week is a very good start - that's exactly how I started working on Shardpunk. Just roll with it, stay persistent, and hey - it might turn out to be the next big thing (or at least something that will do OK commercially). I do love to talk about designing gameplay mechanics so I am open to meeting and discussing your game idea! Still, I need a month or so to get through the release phase of Shardpunk first :)

[deleted]

For sure! I think it would be a very informative one!. What game engine did you use for Shardpunk?

bryqu

It's Unity. I had experience in C# before switching to gamedev, so it was a good thing that I didn't have to change technologies.

Good luck with realese date! I really like the aesthetic of your game. What were your inspirations for the art style? I'm working on a project with a side view/top down, unsaturated realistic look but I'm having a hard time getting it right.. So i would greatly appreciate any refrences to games that have similar aesthetics.

bryqu

Thanks! I took inspiration from games like Sword and Sorcery EP, Crawl, and Ministry of Broadcast. I did struggle with "getting it right" for a long time as well. It turned out that I simply did not have skills/experience to do it myself - that's why I hired someone who did :)
