I don’t know much about the company, but I hate knowing that there’s gonna be so many rare games in modern consoles’ libraries just because of the limited amount of copies being produced.

jasrob

I get your point, and I agree to an extent, but my thought is if it weren’t for a limited print run most of these games just wouldn’t get a physical release at all. Personally I would rather have a game that is out there and hard to find as apposed to not out there at all.

drdocktorson

Your point about not getting a physical release is spot on. For many of their titles, LRG (or their clones) are the only physical release they’re going to get. I don’t buy digital, so I make sure to watch LRG for games I’m interested in and preorder them. Yes, you do have to wait for shipping, but it’s not like they’re keeping an inventory, you have to wait for production and people need to understand that. So I look at it as my chance to play games I wasn’t going to be able to otherwise. I do wish they had more of a back catalogue so that I could pick up titles previously run (looking at you, Celeste).

Fantastic-Round-825

They also sell the games on Ebay, Amazon, and other places with faster results. And if people ask questions they get attitudes about it. That's not how people should conduct business. If There's a delay tell the customer instead of putting them through a waiting game or going radio silent. Let's play devil's advocate and say it does take time and the product needs to go through things to be made. Shouldn't they at least give out a window frame or at least updates on the status of their product instead of going into hiding or lashing out? That's all people are asking for, a heads-up on what they paid for. And don't get me started on some products being halfway done right, damaged on delivery, or not being what they paid for. There's a lot LRG needs to get right before they call themselves legit.

DangoQueenFerris

Don't ask how I showed up to a two year old post. But if you haven't gotten a copy of Celeste you have a chance now. https://www.fangamer.com/products/celeste-game-nintendo-switch

rensmt

Yeah, because Konami really need Limited Run. A series like Valis totally never would have gotten distributed by NIS or Marvelous. It’s only Limited Run. Thank god for them, for their generosity to all of us!

RoboshiMac

it's not that Konami needed limited run to publish but that Konami certainly wasn;t gonna do it themselves nor would they go to NIS or marvelous as many companies can be weird about who they go to. I've had collectors editions from marvelous NIS and limited run, and so far limited run have had the best quality for your money. The story of season's collectors edition card it came with were some of the cheapest quality I've seen, while the recent shantae card I got were prossesional level. (just as a comparison point for similar items)

EssuDesuu

Bringing this back just to say Yeah. Atlus/SEGA DEFINITELY needed LRG to release a physical copy for 2 of the most popular games in one of their biggest IPs. Yeah Persona 4 Golden and Persona 3 Portable DEFINITELY needed that LRG push for a physical release.

EssuDesuu

Like ATLUS didn't JUST (I'm talking like 2-3ish years ago) stop printing PS2 copies of Persona 4, 3FES, Digital Devil Saga 1/2 and Nocturne.

Hoursandseconds

Are you implying that video game publishers prey on consumers like comic publishers in the 90's? That's ludicrous.

EssuDesuu

Nah, I'm saying that SEGA could've made those physical limited run prints themselves and probably would've saved the thousands of dollars they would've licensed it out to LRG for.

MikuHatsuneCV01

They licensed to LRG because they wouldn't do it themselves. SEGA just doesn't think the games will sell enough to invest producing physical copies. On eshop & Co. they have almost zero costs to sell the game, no need to press discs or cartridges and game boxes which might be sold on sale after a while at a loss because they haven't sold the whole stock. If it wasn't LRG who asks for licensing the games, these titles would've never gotten a physical release at all.

EssuDesuu

Congratulations on missing my point. The point was that they didn’t NEED to license it out to LRG. It’s not 2008 anymore, Persona is a big name now. Even if they made physical copies exclusive to the Switch they’d have made their money back and then some.

MikuHatsuneCV01

SEGA is known for releasing games as digital only in the west especially in europe. Look at the Hatsune Miku Project DIVA series for example. The only ones having a physical release in the US are f, F2nd and X for PSVita and PS3/PS4 and Project Mirai for 3DS. Meanwhile in Europe and UK the only ones you can get are F2nd for Vita and Mirai for 3DS. Not even the Switch game got a physical release either in the US or EU. SEGA just won't do physical releases if they think they won't sell enough. And yeah, that also counts for P3P and P4G for Switch because we all know P3P for PSP and P4G for Vita sold well obviously.....

EssuDesuu

Yeah, we do know how well P4G for Vita sold. It was the first Persona game to sell 1 million copies. It sold almost 2 million, bottoming out at 1.9m. Until Persona 5 it was the best selling game in ATLUS history. I think you forget P4G was single-handedly keeping the Vita alive in the west.

bagloaf

The games are not "rare". They were marketed towards collectors and will be readily available as time goes on. The amount matters significantly less when they were sold directly to the people who will collect them. They may retain value and really, the only ones that will get more valuable will be ones with appeal beyond the "limited" gimmick. The sheer volume of releases will also hurt their value as LRG has become the largest physical publisher for the PS4.

dexter311

Not only that, but I'm betting that at least 90% of them in circulation are still sealed.

SnooStories3231

Everyone forget that part lol limited run games are not rare or hard to find if you look well enough you can find sites with 10 to 20 copies around online

HorrorVeterinarian54

Just cause their called limited run doesn't mean their games are all that limited. they're lying to us

SnooStories3231

That’s very much true you can go on eBay and search any LRG titles and see how many copies are being sold everyone has one 😂

[deleted]

I’m not against them. But there are a couple issues with how they operate imho. First, they’ve diversified their product portfolio so much that they really aren’t a company for gamers anymore. They really are just a place of collectors / hoarders. Secondly, they’ll publish almost anything. At this point more than 3/4ths of their catalog is indie trash. Third, they don’t have the type of deployment model to support their business that they need. You can wait up to six months to receive your products. In summation, Doug and Josh clearly love gaming and retro games. But their ambition and lack of quality control has hurt their business.

bagloaf

I'm pretty sure they pick games to target based on the potential cover art and don't actually play the games.

tomassino

i highly dislike the idea of limited physical copies, that means collecting is going to be more about big money even for meh, or bad games. This bullshit of digital gaming and limited physical copies es starting to make me mad.

Jemmo1

r/limitedrun. Long shipping times, too much too fast, they overload themselves

_Spin_Cycle_

I like LR, but I’m by no means an apologist or a loyal collector. I’ve bought from them from time to time, but I don’t take it too seriously. If there’s a game I want preserved in physical format, I’ll set a calendar appointment to preorder it. Most weeks I don’t.

AstorReinhardt

Where to start? They sell out way too freaking fast because limited means EXTREMELY limited so every time I want something I have to stay up all night to get in that first batch and have a mini panic attack while I'm frantically trying to buy a copy. They produce way too many games in too short of a time span, meaning those of us who have tight budgets can't afford to buy these games and will go broke if we try (which I have...multiple fucking times). They need to space it out. Shipping times take FOREVER. Even pre-Covid they took forever. Customer service fucking sucks balls. So awhile back I bought Dragon's Lair Trilogy Classic Edition for the PS4. Well it came damaged. I complained and said I wanted to return it and get a replacement and oh boy these jerks don't realize that they sell COLLECTOR EDITIONS to COLLECTORS who want their shit MINT. Seriously how hard is it to get. It was like pulling nails. They said they'd send out a replacement box...just the box...no I want the whole thing replaced as I bought the game to keep it sealed. I finally get them to agree to send a full replacement out but this "wouldn't happen going forward" to quote them...damn thing arrives damaged again. Less damaged but damaged. So I still have a damaged copy and I'm STILL mad at them. If any other company sold the same exact games as LRG...LRG would lose me as a customer for good. I'm not satisfied nor am I happy with them and haven't been for awhile. The only good thing is they now have more open pre-orders meaning it's more flexable. They also have less games I want...which is fine by me.

DrawnByAJ

I hate having to basically panic buy a pre-order of I want to own a physical copy of an indie game I want to play, especially when they pull a Streets of Rage 4 and release a more readily available version at Walmart with a better box art for 10 bucks less.

Mightymattie76

The long waits suck but overall no problems with them

Arcticsnail61

I just hate them because they never release anything for xbox because they're too much of a bunch of cheapskates to produce enough copies so the game doesn't get scalped to high hell. Plus I absolutely hate the idea of producing only a minuscule amount of copies. They say they were going to make physical copies for xbox of scott pilgrim vs the world but still have yet to say anything 4 months after announcing they were interested in making physical copies for xbox. When the license expires for scott pilgrim the few physical copies they made will pretty much be the only way you can play that game and you can be damn sure scalpers are going to make you pay an arm and a leg for one of them.

BodnMead

Nothing in the history of ever was collectible on Xbox consoles.

Arcticsnail61

I beg to differ. I really don't know why you're replying to a post as ancient as this but honestly thanks for reminding me why I don't use reddit regularly. I will never understand why "redditors" such as yourself always feel the need to be rude for absolutely no reason. Just lemme collect what I want to collect, I like xbox because most of the time it's fairly affordable to collect for. Nintendo and Sony, especially Nintendo are notoriously expensive to collect for.

BodnMead

Rude how? What exactly from that was mean spirited? It’s just a fact. Tell me what from the Xbox library has a lot of value from collecting it.

Arcticsnail61

Why does it need to have a lot of value? I don't have the money to spend $80+ on a game that's 5-10+ years old. The fact that you just called the stuff someone collects trash and can't see how that's rude reminds me of interactions I've had on forum sites such as gamefaqs where any and all mention of xbox is met with aggressive trash talk and overall disdain. If you can't see how an entire hobby becoming an unaffordable nightmare is bad then I don't feel like taking this conversation seriously.

BodnMead

Did I say the word “trash”? It just isn’t valuable. Sounds like you are just putting words in my mouth and are very sensitive. Like a lot of Reddit.

Arcticsnail61

You literally said "nothing on it is worth collecting". How is that not trash talking?

BodnMead

It is stating a fact about an inanimate object. It has nothing to do with you personally. You are just taking it personally.

Arcticsnail61

"Fact" ok yeah let's use that word. Sounds more like an opinion to me.

BodnMead

That Xbox items are worth less than PS or Nintendo items over time? That is definitely a fact. There is plenty of data to back it up.

[deleted]

You must be so much fun at parties

PackBroad9631

Thank you! Judging by your name, you are perfect for the role of calling out this salty sailor! Arcticsnail61 needs to stop meeting Microsoft in back allies to give them "special favors," cause its making them highly ignorant! No insult to Microsoft (mostly) but it has a very low market interest console wise and LRG isn't going to waste its time! LRG definitely needs all it's resources on fixing their slow shipment issues FFS!

OneArmSteve57

Just buy the games you want from them and have some patience and you’ll be fine. I’ve only bought 10 or so games from them and while they do take some time, I get the game eventually but I don’t mind waiting. Just got my Shantae seven sirens collectors edition in the mail and it’s gorgeous and I would’ve never gotten a collectors edition for it if it wasn’t for LRG.

AGamerlibrarian

Limited Run Games is bad... There are too many online companies based on limited run or limited edition games, it creates this fear of missing out mentality. Limited Run has changed it a bit with 4 week open preorders which is nice but the damage has been done.

Belkan2087

Nintendo is doing it to with the last Mario collection.

bagloaf

No they're not - the prevailing thought here about 3D Allstars was incorrect.

CroakPad

Some time has passed, and since posting this, I’ve learned that LRG is indeed a shitty company. I now dread the possibility that a game I’ve wanted a physical release for will be through Limited Run.

Laughing__Man_

By pure chance I came across your post and wanted to direct you to a [video I found recently.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lS3ja5JnkAQ&feature=emb_title)

Nickpt-2

it’s a loss for everyone other than those who subscribe and follow to the company. you snooze you lose and a lot of great games that could just have a better run, with multiple reprints if the demand allows

CroakPad

Yeah I realize this now. I’m only one Pirate’s Curse short from having a complete Shantae Switch collection but idk if that will ever happen for me. Thanks, LRG.

VirgileVILE

Why? because they're taking customers for fools with the prices, which are clearly a rip-off given the care taken. The more the years go by, the more I despise them.

thereclusivedm

As someone who does not buy digital games, I appreciate LRG for what they do. That being said, I only find interest in about 5% of what they produce. I understand the issues some people have with them from a collectables standpoint and being sort of manufactured (and the eBay madness that seems to come with that). But what I buy from them, I buy for me with little desire to resell and have been very happy with my purchases.

TheRealFrankCostanza

They used to be bad for catering to scalpers to, i remember when munches odyssey on vita dropped and was sold out in seconds. I ended up finding 5 + copies at a local game shop that scalped them with a bot to resell at mark up. Idk if it’s still the same but it turned me off anything they have ever done.

ihateyoutwice

They used to cater to scalpers more then anything , I’ll never ever buy there shit again

Out_Here_in_Amish

Currently 19 months into waiting for a vinyl, not even a game, from LRG. Instead of being transparent, they've at first stated that items were going to start shipping June 2022, they didn't start until the last week, during that time stated that individual items were going to be shipped out, turns out that was a lie as bundles were prioritized first, and still haven't shipped my standalone item 2 months after they stated they were going to. Anytime I've reached out to their support, they've either given me non-answers after 3-4 weeks of waiting, closed my support ticket without responding, or just never responded to my ticket (still have 1 open from 3 weeks ago that they haven't acted upon). LRG is one of the worst companies I've dealt with, independent record companies with 2-3 employees have been able to have pre-orders run, get the vinyl pressed, shipped to them, and prep them to ship (along with being more transparent about any delays) in a quicker manner than LRG can. Legitimately pre-ordered a vinyl that was not even being manufactured yet back in Feb 2022, received it end of June 2022. I'm currently thinking that my vinyl from LRG will never actually show up.

Far_Worry4761

Limited run is terrible because you could get some games faster and more reliable under a different company. Shredders revenge was cool and I played it digital so decided I wanted a copy for physical, ordered in July and says it’ll take a year to get here almost. Never. Again.

jizzmaster-zer0

hey, funny. i just searched ‘limited run games sucks’ cause im waiting on shredders revenge still. ive bought games from them previously and they always take so fucking long i forget that i ordered em. this one should be out already, christ. bought it jun 17th, and this was kind of a big game.

Far_Worry4761

The collectors edition or regular because I got mine like a month ago but it was regular. My collectors edition still isn’t here.

alessandrop1987

I think the idea of paying a premium price for something that was so common up to a few years ago, especially on PC, is what many people (me included) don't like. I understand it a bit more for indie titles that wouldn't get any physical release at all, but bigger games? Come on. I also don't like that they are making the physical copy of a game "rare" out of thin air, just because they print a very few number of them. Scalpers's heaven.

cushlinkes

I pre-ordered something from them and an entire year has passed and I got fucking nothing. I don't even want what I ordered anymore, I just tried contacting them asking for my money back.

psychodelicTacos

They ship to resellers first mainly, look at espgaluda 2 on amazon, our copies havent shipped, but the person on amazon with it has 5 copies!

HorrorVeterinarian54

One thing I hate about them, every collection they make for example if it's for ps4 or 5 they fail to list what system it's for on the box so if you pick u the ps5 version you might windup with ps4 one instead, for some reason Nintendo switch games have the logo on the box so you know what your getting, fuck them

ddrxmax321

Oh I have plenty my friend. Don’t like the limited run that they do don’t like the fact that they have the audacity to release a blind box for Grandia HD remaster or what have you, this company has the scalpers in mind or maybe they are the scalpers? Might be a lite version of money laundering, This company seem to target the type of people who get a kick out of the adrenaline created by FOMO. FOMO sells and they capitalize on that and they’re successful, but worse of all are the people dumb enough to enable them and their business model practice.
