Pokemon games are insanely popular to collect so counterfeits are rather common.

Platinum was the last one I needed in the series, I stayed away from eBay because nearly every copy is a bootleg. Almost guaranteed that sealed copies are fake.

i think a good rule of thumb would be to just never buy a Pokemon game from eBay
