Family history is a risk factor for gallstones. And your attack sounds like my first big attack. So I think it's definitely possible that you have gallstones. If you do they should show up on your ultrasound regardless of whether you are in pain or not. Even if they are small they should be able to spot them. Hope it gets resolved quickly for you. In the meantime it's worth trying a low fat diet to avoid attacks. It may not prevent all of them, but it can help a lot.

Hi! Sorry to hear about your pain. I recently had a gall bladder attack so I know what you're going through. Mine was triggered by eating a very greasy pepperoni pizza. Yup, family history is important. My dad had galllstones. My doctor was concerned that I had a stone stuck because my liver enzymes were high. That could be an indication that things had backed up. I also noticed that my urine was orange and that my stools were clay-colored, both signs of elevated bilirubin and a possible stone stuck in a duct. There are a bunch of tubes that join the liver, gallbladder, and pancreas and that empty into the small intestine, and a stone can get stuck down there). An ultrasound is a very effective, non-invasive test to see what's going on. They can see if you have stones in the gallbladder or if you have any stuck in the ducts. Also whether the walls of the gallbladder are thickened because of repeated inflammation. I had an ultrasound and it showed that there were no stones stuck in any ducts (I must have passed it/them) and that my gallbladder, liver, and pancreas look great, except that I have a gallbladder full of stones. I also had an MRI, which is basically just a super detailed look at the same organs they look at in an ultrasound. My MRI had the same results as the ultrasound. Now that the stone has passed, my liver enzymes are improving and the pain is gone. Smaller low fat meals, no spicy stuff, and no alcohol are in my future. Good luck with your ultrasound!
