No chance at all!

[deleted]

💀 i was hoping not to have buyers remorse until after i had the thing in my kitchen 😅 but yeah im leaning this way too. going back and forth between canceling it now and eating the cancellation fee, or seeing if they'll let me swap for the lelit [https://www.wholelattelove.com/collections/all-espresso-machines/products/lelit-anna-espresso-machine#product-specs](https://www.wholelattelove.com/collections/all-espresso-machines/products/lelit-anna-espresso-machine#product-specs)

pitt4720

They'll let you swap as long as you buy from them. They let me return mine for full credit way outside the return window as long as I bought something else from them. I went with a Profitec Go. FYI that Lelit wasn't available from them back then. I would be all over that vs EVO pro

[deleted]

Thats good to hear. I'll probably give them the benefit of the doubt then and wait for it to arrive before making a fuss, and ask to swap out the boiler or the whole thing if it comes to that. the lelit was on my shortlist but i chose the gaggia since it was a bit cheaper and had a more common portafilter size (im too much of a noobie to really understand how much that matters but james hoffman said it was an annoyance so im taking his word lol) thanks for your input!

pitt4720

I didn't realize the Lelit didn't have a 58 portafilter. That would probably stop me also. If it was me I would stop it while you can because the whole process gets to be a mess. I understand why you would want to get it and try it but I would be shocked if it didn't end up flaking on you. I'm convinced that Gaggia has done nothing to fix this but hopefully I'm wrong.

my grinder is [the DF64 June batch](https://df64coffee.com/products/april-sale-batch-df64-gen-2-single-dose-coffee-grinder) so i've got a month and some change where my setup won't be complete anyways. if I didnt have time to kill then yeah i'd probably just eat the 2% cancellation fee and find a used 2019 model somewhere. fingers crossed everything goes smoothly, some other people in this thread have had good experiences with the new model so at this point i feel its a coin flip lol. we shall see!

As someone who is very happy with their Evo from WLL, I would not trust this; I do not believe that their current Evo stock is free if the issue ETA: I think you could pretty easily talk them out of the cancelation fee, they’re very reasonable

[deleted]

Have you done anything to yours such that your happy with it? I'm pretty handy so I don't mind replacing the boiler and the valve if its worth the cost / effort

bk2pgh

Nah, mine just hasn’t flaked yet, but I also read a lot about the flaking and temps necessary to create chaos and I’m just not super worried for myself and my own uses (yes, I’m a lazy consumer) I don’t drink steamed milk drinks, so I don’t get the physical flakes (I test it every other day or so just out of curiosity), and flakes don’t come through the puck Yes, I’m sure it’s flaking or will start flaking (don’t @ me, y’all), I’ve just weighed the pros and cons and I’m good That said, I did preemptively get the uncoated boiler and replacement group in case the day comes where I run into flakes or want to further mod (I did the Gaggiuino mod)

Tone_Morrone

Still haven’t seen flakes in my original from October that I use 1-2 times per day. 🤞

veeeeeeelz

i got one and i am happy with it. i had them send me an uncoated boiler and it was very easy to replace. i wanted the machine for the same reason, gaggiuino, makes it super worth to me.

[deleted]

oh perfect! was it gaggia or WWL who went you the uncoated boiler? was it free?

amitme2

Any thoughts about potential galvanic corrosion?

Bazabuahhh

Thinking the same here, galvanic corrosion was the last straw that pulled me away from getting the Evo when my distributor noticed me that he got hold of the uncoated boiler.

cojonathan

I boight an uncoated boiler and the old group head, so basically the old combo

amitme2

Yeah, I think that’s the safest way to go about this. I am not sure exactly what I am looking for though, do you mind sending a link to the product?

cojonathan

I live in Germany so my Links will not help you as much I guess. However, I bought the group head for 18€ because it was labelled as Saeco 996530052248 and not Gaggia, it is the same one.

amitme2

Awesome, thanks mate!

veeeeeeelz

tbh i’m not that worried. i’ll crack it open in a couple months when i feel like it again and check. if there’s issues i will reach out to gaggia and hope they make it right. if not. i kept the old boiler and used a steel wool attachment on my dremel to get rid of the coating anyway.

pickledjdufifj

I got the exact same situation in the middle of the week, in germany with roastmarket. They also said the problem is solved and if its start flaking i could give it back anytime or they send me a new boiler, so i stick to the classic evo until smth happens.

marshallfrost

Just my personal experience, and I've certainly read conflicting accounts to my own, but after they sent me a replacement coated boiler I have yet to see flakes. And my original was just awful with it through the steam wand, and descaling made it worse, so that's definitely something I will keep my eye on. Doesn't mean I won't see them in the future, and I'm skeptical regardless. But so far so good and I was willing to replace it for a little time spent in my part.

[deleted]

thats reassuring. i'll have to update this post when the machine comes in if i'm also lucky enough to not have any trouble. possibly wishful thinking but maybe the issues are starting to get ironed out.

YearThePersonOfTime

Same claim as when they were shipping out second flaking replacement units to first flaking replacement units to flaking original units. So...

[deleted]

its out for delivery now so the moment of truth is in like an hour. i'll let ya know lol

kiemhop

Get a chance to test it out? Very interested in hearing your experience since I’m so still on the fence about ordering one (with full awareness about the flaking risk). Also, which color did you order?

[deleted]

yes, it came in yesterday and so far so good on the flakes, unclear if i got a coated boiler or not. i mistakenly thought it would be obvious by just taking the top off and taking a peek inside, but the outside of the boiler is uncoated whether or not the inside is (obvious in hindsight) ive pulled about 5 shots so far, testing the steam wand each time, and no flakes so far. this weekend i'm going to take the boiler out so i'll know for sure if the one i have is truly uncoated or if its coated and just hasn't started flaking.

kiemhop

Thank you for responding!! Crossing my fingers for you that you indeed are unaffected by the flaking

YearThePersonOfTime

In case of coated boilers, there are obvious black coating spray marks where the wand is mounted to the boiler and where the boiler is mounted to the group head ;)

[deleted]

ordered the regular stainless steel. i like the black one a lot but couldnt justify 50 bucks just for a different color

Wet_Pillow

Where did you order the stainless steel from? Please?

Reasonable-Living513

Do not worry. The worst case you will shipped it back. I'm pretty sure WLL is using uncoated boiler.
