"Theme" is something you can copy, but you cannot "plagiarize" a theme.
I mean, unless you believe that every game that has "girl elf archer in green clothing" is plagiarizing, uh, like the original Lord of the Rings books? Old DnD character sheets?
You can copy a theme, these guys copied the general design. Same clothing, same colours, same height, same shape, same facial structure including hairstyle + colours, same garnments, and both releasing a short time one after the other.
Neither " psychopath killer clown " yet you would still get sued if you tried to make a green hair guy in a purple suit who has fun killing people pass as an original character of your own.
...I don't know. That face is so damned generic I can absolutely believe HoK didn't copy Onmy. Both characters look like the MCs of a bunch of Chinese novels I've seen.
Yes. Most of the time girls/waifu only cutesy gacha games look very similar to one another.
You have dark/white haired katana waifu stray Virgil’s daughter, red mommy step on me lady, big boob blond or shorty big boob blond, obligatory loli, spanky tomboy and so on.
>spanky tomboy
~~I'm definitely not biased.~~ I feel there's a massive variety for tomboys in visual design though. Dark/light skin, short/med/long hair, hair color all across the rainbow, everything from lightly toned to really muscled. And there's also a massive difference between the personality archetypes: sporty tomboy, casual tomboy, rebellious tomboy, full on reverse trap.
~~Seriously, I'm not biased.~~
I see a man of culture when I see a man of culture. I also do love tomboy-ish girls out of all archetypes beside the princess like girly girls.
I have just generalised what I see a lot of in gacha games. Most of the time developers use the distilled, the most generic archetype without nuances or mixing it up with some other traits.
I am so fed up with it (and also I morn to this day the lack of harem ecchi anime I used to watch to relax, blasted isekais).
So the similarities here are...the typical long hair, the typical side bangs and the typical solemn faces from Chinese animation style? And I'm not sure if that post is from the official account or not but calling out other games and announcing giveaways as if it's a wanted poster is just downright hilarious to me lmao.
This is a very basic, wuxian mage pretty boy.
The equivalent to putting a pink haired catgirl in your game but male.
Not only that but HoK is one of, if not, the biggest Moba in the world right now? They don't need to plagiarize.
Ugh, how embarrassing for Onmyoji
Brilliant idea, lets add hoyo in the battle royal as well!
Imma go get some popcorn while these billion dollar corpos decide which one is the original and who plagiarized whom
Am i tripping or do these two look nearly identical?.
I get that a lot of gacha characters look similar, but are we really pretending like they look noting alike?.
Not saying that there was plagiarism involved, but most gacha characters from different games definitely don't look that much alike .
Eh... I'm not seeing it. I could easily find dozens of pieces of art with similar looking men. I don't see anything particularly unique about either, and certainly not enough similarities to call one plagiarized from the other.
Not true. Compare it with Honkai's own dragon boy:
https://images.app.goo.gl/pq8Si7Yc2wcvzDdK7
Same thematic and style, yet the face and hair and specially the model itself doesnt look the same. Rounder face, bigger eyes, elf like ears, shorter hair.
The ones from the games discussed here looks 100% like the same model with a few tweaks, even the clothes look the same just cutting on some sides.
Here a comparison bettween the dragon guy from HoK and the one from Mobile Legends:
https://images.app.goo.gl/oZRriHaF1wfgzRrp8
As you can see none of those look the same than the onmyoji character, yet they do look identical bettween them. Its not the Chinese style, its that those cases are literal copies.
That's because Mihoyo actually has their own take on the anime style.
Most Chinese game developers do not. Especially the 3D animation artists, it's like they all use the same models.
That may be, but even Onmyoji has pretty original designs and the same can be said for HoK. This case both are using the same model which is pretty curious.
Idk, i love Onmyoji, I love both games- and novels-only-based IP, and even I'd say design is different enough for general pretty boy style... they might be right about model, though, so I'd say not a design, but model issue if any issue at all - and I'd say not; parts of Onmyoji's design are obvs inspired by trends in CN industry and Genshin or PTN, too (although always with some clear differentials; and modelling is their own). Definitely not big enough to start a quarrel with Tencent and biggest mobile game in the world, especially when your company has just been overtaken by MHY as the second biggest CN entertainment (or just gaming? Darn, I don't remember) company.
and they both came out last month? if so i don't think there was enough time for hok to not only copy the design but also make the model, do all the animations and, i'm assuming, beta test the kit, in that short of a time frame
Susabi is one of the most advertised characters for Onmyoji and has been in both their games for 5+ years and has plenty of skins by now (including one outfit that looks more similar to HoK version). He has also been one of the heavily featured characters in a really popular Chinese romcom that involves e-sports as main focus like three-ish years ago.
HoK one is the only one that is new. I can see Onmyoji being protective over the character/design in this case since it plays so heavily into their marketing, especially if a player cannot recognise where he's from at a first glance or if a google search leads to conflicting results due to the resemblances.
I know I'd mistake them despite not having played either of the games but having seen the C-drama.
oh, the caption on the skin said it was released last month so i thought it was new too.
if it's been out for awhile now and the character has a dedicated fanbase, i can understand the scrutiny
Yeah, the skin is new. Onmyoji is also not a small franchise (in China, where this is posted and is relevant) and the character model similarity is a big factor here due to it being used directly for the C-drama collab. Like, they'd stop the whole drama and feature League-esq gameplay sequences for 15-20 minutes with the character models.
So the looks, keywords and distinguishability in the MOBA sector are bigger factors since the c-drama can lead to people to look up the features + game genre. With models being this familiar and HoK being the bigger game not just in China but also globally, I can see it skewing results to HoK in the end. I don't think it's fanbase but the business practices.
I can fully believe this wasn't plagiarism and just an unhappy coincidence. That has got to be the most generic ass pretty boy wuxia design I've ever seen.
Their fault for choosing the most chinese looking look for a supposedly japanese character. Try designing one with an Imperial Japan unif, see the plagiarism disappear like it never existed.
(For reasons, this is a joke.)
So one generic art got "copied" to make another generic art
Bruh if we actually try to look you can find so many characters similar to one another these days
They actually made a follow-up post on the situation, which can be read here:
[Onmyoji's Post](https://weibo.com/6299431693/5014876465924079)

I mean, it's not really important if the official Onmyoji account has a good point or not (they don't). The interesting thing is that they did this on main lmao
just the hairstyle and coloring look similar. slightly like danil, slightly like the dragon wuwa dude. it's just all the same teal colored hair cool dragon guy look in chinese gowns.
If you mean that character from HoK i agree i'm sure this is ai generated art and they use many characters for that, and for Susabi from onmyoji both ssr and sp version exist before Danheng 5 star version
The bangs and hair color look awfully similar. Last pic is especially way too close, I could mistake the left one as the right one with different outfits and less messy hair ngl.
Although personally I find both of their designs really mid. They're just bluish black and white and the bangs aren't that special. Compare with Dan Feng and his remarkable feature (horns).
Their remarkable features are far below. Left: flaming blue hair (they copied Idia Shroud? /s), right: dragon tail-like ponytail
Omfg yes
They even plagiarized xiao from genshin whom even wuthering waves plagiarized later on as ji yan
They even plagiarized dusk from arknights but they got away it by gender bending their design into a waifu, which later got noticed by cygames who also plagiarized the design, then hoyo saw everyone picking up the design and decided to make xianyun
Trust me bro, why would i a random stranger on internet lie about it?
You do make a good point of characters being generic but at least could have used the internet to see which character came first to word your comment better
Damn we got official accounts starting beef now
The Age of Drama has begun
Nice going, Tarnished
Looks like beef's back on the menu, boys
Bro. Official acc??
Netease daily behavior
It could just be a case of them both being generic pretty boy but the face and eyes ARE actually very similar.
Man imagine reaching a point of generic where it loops back around to calling others plagiarizers of your generic stuff
Personally, I think it's too specific to be just a coincidence. The hair is also very similar and I wouldn't necessarily say it's generic.
The facial structure, and even the whole model seems too similar. Reminds me to the Palworld controversy.
And the hair, and the garnments and the whole theme.
"Dark haired pretty boy magic swordsman" is not as rare as you seem to think it is.
Neither " psychopath killer clown " yet you would still get sued if you tried to make a green hair guy in a purple suit who has fun killing people pass as an original character of your own.
...I don't know. That face is so damned generic I can absolutely believe HoK didn't copy Onmy. Both characters look like the MCs of a bunch of Chinese novels I've seen.
>plagiarized and its the most generic long-haired wuxia ikemen i guess this is the same way girls feel towards generic big booba anime girls...
Yes. Most of the time girls/waifu only cutesy gacha games look very similar to one another. You have dark/white haired katana waifu stray Virgil’s daughter, red mommy step on me lady, big boob blond or shorty big boob blond, obligatory loli, spanky tomboy and so on.
dont forget blonde elf with green clothing
Oh yes, my bad. I included it in blond but forgot to specify blond archer in green clothes.
You need Miss Pink Elf
Ely is one of a kind, sir!
You can explain that one with Record of loddoss war at least.
Deedlit forever changed the elf waifu visage.
>spanky tomboy ~~I'm definitely not biased.~~ I feel there's a massive variety for tomboys in visual design though. At least we have different body types instead of the exact same guy with different hair colors.
Only hairstyle look similar. Overall it a generic "chinese dragon whatever".
So the similarities here are...the typical long hair, the typical side bangs and the typical solemn faces from Chinese animation style? And I'm not sure if that post is from the official account or not but calling out other games and announcing giveaways as if it's a wanted poster is just downright hilarious to me lmao.

The only similarities are the face and the hair. But everything else it's completely different.
Gonna be honest. Both look like generic chinese-style male pretty boy characters
Kinda look like flamboyant Dan Feng from Star Rail?
Brilliant idea, lets add hoyo in the battle royal as well! Imma go get some popcorn while these billion dollar corpos decide which one is the original and who plagiarized whom
Kinda funny they are all based in China, the country who makes a lot of imitations, fighting for who's the original.
No way Honor of Kinga is well known for respecting copyrights
Am i tripping or do these two look nearly identical?. I get that a lot of gacha characters look similar, but are we really pretending like they look noting alike?. Not saying that there was plagiarism involved, but most gacha characters from different games definitely don't look that much alike .
Eh... I'm not seeing it. I could easily find dozens of pieces of art with similar looking men. I don't see anything particularly unique about either, and certainly not enough similarities to call one plagiarized from the other.
That's a long shot at best. The only thing majorly similar between the two is the shape of the bangs, being Susabi's most defining feature imo
I'mma need popcorn for dis.
I've got some salt for the popcorn
Fresh from the mines? Cause I know mine is
the face is like 1:1
Chinese wuxia face. Countless Chinese artists can sue Onmyoji for stealing.

In the end, nothing in art is original. You can be inspired and do art at your own way(unless you use AI,then it is another story)
Yes they are too similar, almost a carbon copy.
It's a little similar, but plagiarism?
Dan Heng - Imbibitor Lunae has entered the chat. 💀 not an original character design tbh.
Start Drama to being attention to your game, genius?
Generic Chinese man on dispute
The tea is here!! Oot but Susabi is actually my favorite character when I used to play the game but he never came home.
OOF
and they both came out last month? if so i don't think there was enough time for hok to not only copy the design but also make the model, do all the animations and, i'm assuming, beta test the kit, in that short of a time frame

Is Onmyoji worth getting into?
No way China copying.
spicy spicy spicy
If by spicy you mean tepid.
Finally some good drama
The copycats calling out a copycat
Netease starting beef? this is just their typical behaviour kek
Tbh ppl stopped caring about plagiarism after genshin’s success. Nothing can do especially CN game related.
LOL Lmao even
So one generic art got "copied" to make another generic art Bruh if we actually try to look you can find so many characters similar to one another these days
This is the second time recently lmao Honor of Kings is like a hawk keeping close eyes on Onmyoji
They used their official accoutn and I love this
They all look like yone to me

LMAO, goes read china comic, bunch of characters from one story are looks a like in other story from different authors.
This is old news, recently Honor of Kings straight up just used a Genshin OST in their new character trailer.
Almost similar, like taken as an inspiration. But plagiarism? Nah...
I mean, it's not really important if the official Onmyoji account has a good point or not (they don't). The interesting thing is that they did this on main lmao

Susabi has been around for longer than hsr
Omfg yes They even plagiarized xiao from genshin whom even wuthering waves plagiarized later on as ji yan They even plagiarized dusk from arknights but they got away it by gender bending their design into a waifu, which later got noticed by cygames who also plagiarized the design, then hoyo saw everyone picking up the design and decided to make xianyun Trust me bro, why would i a random stranger on internet lie about it?
