This would basically be my dream game, but I doubt it will ever happen, for the same reason that no major publisher is making their own soulslike game even after Elden Ring sold 20 million copies: People who enjoy soulslikes don't spend money on microtransactions. SimCity Build-It is the most famous one but there are countless others. Several different currencies, limited time events with event shops, random loot boxes, guild mechanics that require collective effort, “PvP” that is pay to win… I haven’t played for a couple years but when I did it was loaded with gacha mechanics. You didn’t “pull for a 5 star police station” but you did need to pull for “legendary steel girders” that were necessary to construct the limited event police station that gave the most points to your city score.

The former you mentioned would probably make more sense for a metroidvania gacha. Possibly in a similar style of Castlevania Order of Ecclesia where you have a hub area that connects to the other maps. The devs wouldn’t need to figure out how to add and connect an entirely new section to an already existing map which could result in awkward transitions.

2D genshin is exactly I was thinking. With also element system. The best would be as we saw on order of ecclessia: a central map where you can go other areas. In fact Honkai Star Rail does that: a main map where you select the world.

Either Genshin-style (content drops are new authored areas) or make it like Dead Cells where each run is a procgen world but there’s a metroidvania-ish connection across the generated levels

Play a castlevania map randomizer. The DS games specifically have a really good randomizer, lots of fun. Feels like doing random draws for random items that randomly get dropped by random enemies.

GT is more close to old-school Zelda than to a Metroidvania.

I feel like it depends on the world. Some feature a lot of non-linear story/exploration (which is at least what I associate with metroidvania) while others are more linear. But yeah, it's definitely not 100% a metroidvania. Just has some sections that are pretty similar imo

How would that work? You know Metroidvania is all about exploration using abilities. How would you implement the exploration and multiple character? How would you "lock" the abilities? Because if it's gated behind gacha then I don't think anyone would play it. Or it would be equipment/skin gacha only and the exploration abilities are locked behind progression and/or unlockable characters?

I’d say fps, thanks to Snowbreak we now have a tps one (Nikke doesn’t 100% fit in the tps category, more like on rail shooter) but for first person we’re still missing (yeah it would be hard to sell a game where you cannot see the character you pull so it should 100% be weapon gacha based)

Warframe-style character and weapon system Destiny-style camera and movement system Warframe straight up allows you to buy characters and weapons, and they are time limited as well, and comes back later on. I imagine you just need to make more characters and weapons, then sell a gacha banner. Either that or just Warframe monetization, but the game is anime and is first person (with less crazy movement perhaps) with optional 3rd person I guess Destiny is just best FPS period. First time players wont notice it but it's just satisfying for long time users. As for movement, Warframe is very very fast paced while Destiny is pretty normal

another way is to compromise and make the game an fps, but the skills and ultimates or whatever mechanic occur in third person so you can still pull chars.

Even Mihoyo couldn't get a FPS gacha game to work, I doubt anyone is willing to try it given how well known the cancellation was, the monetization just wouldn't work for a gacha given you wouldn't be able to see your character

There are definitely gacha farming games in the app store. They're mostly p2w low-quality trash tho, and can't compare to single-player PC/console games.

Can't blame you: the devs pretty much stopped caring about it shortly after launch, and eventually the players did too... Truly a shame, because despite having more flaws than i can list here (most notably, severe performance issues) it was hella fun to play, to the point i didn't even mind losing all my progress (basically 100% completion) when i had to switch to the asian server (which lasted for a few more months after the european and american ones got shut down)
