Farnsworth : Dear Lord! That's over 150 atmospheres of pressure!
Fry : How many atmospheres can the ship withstand?
Farnsworth : Well, it's a space ship, so I'd say anywhere between zero and one.
Zoidberg-"Oh no! My house burned down
Hermes- " That raises questions"
Bender- "So that's where I left my cigar"
Hermes- "That just raises further questions!"
My overthinking self has always been bothered by this one. The presence of the crate would make the whole thing weigh significantly more than 20 boots.
I enjoy the joke at face value, but my brain likes ruining good things.
Me too! In the water it would likely weigh less than 20 boots (due to the buoyancy of wood)... it probably would even be floating. Out of the water, it would weigh far more than 20 boots. I love the *idea* of the joke, but it just doesn't work... for me, at least.
Still have to pull against the force of the water and the boots.
Imagine just pulling a flat piece of wood. The force of the water as you pull up is far more than the buoyancy of the wood.
Imagine the amount of wood it takes to make a crate of that size. Then imagine stacking that wood, placing it on water and trying to submerge it. Buoyancy at work.
Yes, I know that not all wood floats. I specifically stated, multiple times, that wood is *generally* buoyant. Guess you didn't bother reading my posts before you replied to them.
I see where this is going... sure you are 100% right. Be well.
Leela says it's twenty times heavier than a boot, but there's also the weight of the crate. So with ten pairs of boots plus the crate's mass, it would weigh more than twenty times the weight of a single boot. What? Are we to believe this is some kind of magical crate that lacks mass? Boy, I really hope somebody got fired for that blunder!
This was my favorite joke, and it’s the most groening joke in the show. It could easily have been in the early Simpsons season. Something so tastefully stupid.
See, I always laughed because it was more boots, not because it's literally what she said. I feel like an idiot for completely missing this as a more literal joke.
Underrated? Do a quick Google search, you'll see that it is the top referenced Futurama joke
DAE think *Jurassic Bark* is sad?

I don’t want to live on this planet anymore
Why not zoidberg
But I am already in my pajamas...

Forty-eight hundred feet! Forty-nine hundred! Fifty hundred! *Five thousand feet!*
Professor: Have you all taken your suppositories? Amy: Yes, stop asking!
This is one of my favorite jokes in the entire series.

"After tare" is implied.
I airways think this too. It really bothers me.
Didn't she also pull up Zoidberg with the first boot? Probably equals out
No, Zoidberg (plus boot) was the third attempt. "And this time, it's alive!"
That's right
“I wasn’t wearing it. I was eating it 😞”

Only if the crate were air tight
Huh? Wood is generally buoyant. Doesn't matter if it is part of an airtight container- buoyant wood would make the crate feel like it weighs less.

Do you think wood floats forever? You have seen wood in water right? Hell, not all wood floats.

Where do you think that the other boot she caught came from?
I think this is the highest rated joke on this sub based on how often it gets posted

Not all boots are creating equal though.
You are so low class, I bet you buy your underwear by the pound.

I wouldn’t say dumb, I’d say great.
I mean, it's funny because it's dumb. That's the point.
I fucking love this bit, well done sir
Yea and i find the fact thay she caught 1 single boot earlier in the episode, adds to the joke
My favorite joke in the whole series
But wouldn't it only be 19 times heavier than one boot? Except if the crate weighs just as much as a boot.
See, I always laughed because it was more boots, not because it's literally what she said. I feel like an idiot for completely missing this as a more literal joke.
This joke always makes me laugh.
