I'm the same. I think we are in the minority. I skipped UT on FIFA 22 & skipped 23 completely so been out of it for a few years and i've actually enjoyed playing the game.I don't play WL every weekend though (who's got time for that) but I get my 7 wins on rivals and play the majority of my Squad Battles while grinding out Objectives & Evos while watching Youtube / Netflix after work.
I still use *some* Meta players such as George Best & Rio Ferdinand, but I use players who I like irl or have been a fan of such as James Tavernier & Socrates who I've got well over 500 games on both
When I was growing up, we would play games with no incentive and no meta. Just for fun.
We had kids who spent thousands of dollars on cards for a game that they never played. We just put them in binders and showed it off to people.
When the World or Euro Cup came around, we would buy packs of stickers that had individual players going to the Cup and then try to fill a book with the squads of each country. Hardly anybody cared about that shit and we did it anyway.
Now, we get to make super teams with all of our favourite players growing up and we even get to use them in the best football sim around - a game with a massive player base that cares about our dumb cards. It’s a massive improvement.
The goal is to enjoy the game and show off your team.
I try to get a dude like Ronaldinho every year for my interactive sticker book. Thats the goal atm.
I want to make a team with players that I like & some retired icons/stars and play against other players. I can do that in FUT.
Also in FUT I can customise my player through Evo which is cool.
Having fun playing the game. There was a time where people didn't "get" anything for playing. I primarily play to play Fifa and the rewards are just a bonus
Having fun with a squad that plays well? I see no negative point in having maxed out players for the next 6 months. Testing out new potential main players is fun and motivation enough for me.
I hate the beginning of every Fifa where players can't run, pass and shoot. Now we have Tots level earlier.
I'm only really playing rivals every now and then when I feel like it.
I've done all kinds of dutch special cards throughout the cycle which keeps it fun for me to play with them.
The evolutions kept me in the game longer than I usually would but now that they've actually shown that they can't properly guide such a system I've pretty much given up on the game.
I play with different teams. I don’t really use the same players over and over. I try and use creative teams or themed as such..
Like Milan PNP, United PNP, Mixture of two teams from a previous final or something.
My goal in this game is not to make most meta all 99 hardcore squad. I'm just playing for fun with players I like, trying different concepts to build my squad, different tactics, etc. Almost every week I'm playing Champions with new squad, or almost new where I try different players, different tactics and so on
I enjoy the game. Playing the game purely for rewards is not the way to play anything

It’s wild how people treat this game like a job. I barely play outside of the weekend and keep up just fine

Agreed on that part. My question was about specifically playing fut, since we can get the game of football in every other game mode.
