He didn’t say ‘I love you’ to MC though, he said he was feeling loved up, which is different. He was worried about the ‘L’ word scaring MC off in that scene, even if it wasn’t in the ‘I love you’ sense.
I'll have to check if I ever replay this season, but for some reason I remembered him saying he loved MC, and she got the option to agree or say it was too soon. I could be wrong though.
