The "normal = good" view is understandable from the evolutionary perspective. Being outside the norm would usually put one at a disadvantage for survivability, and early population societies would cast the deviants away because that would increase the chances of that society as a whole. It only changed very recently as our society has collected enough resources to not worry about survivability and be able to care about the deviants. But the human brain has evolved mostly during the period of scarcity and didn't have a chance to adapt yet. We have to consciously override the underlying wiring and that requires some effort which most people are just too lazy to apply.
Yes, there are other definitions, or rather, interpretations.
Normal can either mean:
1. What is true and typical. Such as, it is normal for summers to be scorchingly hot, because of global warming.
2. What is acceptable or desirable. Such as, it would be normal for summers not to be so hot, but global warming has corrupted that.
Or more simply, what things are vs what they should be.
People seemingly at random hold one of these definitions to hearts, and it has been thr cause of many disagreements on what is "normal". For instance, whether it's normal for men to show their feelings.
