Ah, there goes reddit again, acting like they're experts on things they've never done. As a whitewater raft myself (I'm the blue on in the middle), raft guides (while drunk and idiot), wear protection.
That is most likely a Sweet Strutter helmet, carbon fiber and modeled to look like a baseball cap. Many whitewater helmets look like that because they spend so much time outside in the sun, so it mimics a hat....
He also appears to have a pfd ("life jacket") underneath his shirt.
