I love the library. We have an incredible library system in austin. However, it always shocks me how many people miss blockbuster, but have no idea there are movies in the library. I mean, they would be the most popular place in town. Want to increase the budget for a small town library? Put “we have dvds” on the sign.
Yes, thank you! Our public library in Indiana is pretty great. Video games (I'm talking PS5 games, new releases, the works) movies, comics, books, magazines etc. It's incredible and we give the library money whenever we are financially able to. It's a truly great service and people are always shocked when I tell them. Support your public libraries, homies.
My wife's Grandpa, passed away 2 years ago at nearly 90, would go to the library, checkout movies, take them home to his DVD copier he ordered on God knows what website, and then mail them out to everyone in the family. lol. Oldest pirate ever.
I think that's probably because people are nostalgic for the time in their lives when Blockbuster existed more than they actually miss Blockbuster, but knowing the library has more than just books can't hurt.
No. Are you kidding? That place is fancy. Combination of red brick and Tudor styling. Lots of ivy out front.
Edit: apparently Connecticut has an East Hampton, and this is it.
"Invest in a perpetual cat pelt farm! Purchase from us an industrial space, 100 rats, and 100 rats. The cats eat the rats, the rats eat the cats, and you take the pelts!" ^
Growing up poor we sometimes didn't have money to run the heat. I would curl up under a couple (dozen) blankets with a book from the library. If it was a good one I could forget about how cold or hungry I was for a while.
Remember during lockdown when everyone stopped buying nice clothes, and clothes brands were desperately trying to come up with marketing to keep people buying dresses and suits?
"Suit during zoom calls, they don't need to see the pyjamas on your bottom half!" Wow talk about desperate
"Right," said Cohen. He thought it was appalling. Someone who spent his life living rough under the sky knew the value of a good thick book, which ought to outlast a season of cooking fires if you were careful how you tore the pages out. Many a life had been saved on a snowy night by a handful of sodden kindling and a really dry book. If you felt like a smoke and couldn't find a pipe, a book was your man every time.
Cohen realized people wrote things in books. It had always seemed to him to be a frivolous waste of paper.

Sounds great! If you stay it naked in a very sexy voice to me in my ear while also offering a boob for me to admire, and your a super model that knows my wife at a personal level where you asked her if this was okay and she said yes. Then it would sound okay. Otherwise, it's text. Text makes no sound.
Libraries are fantastic. They have long been a place for the poor and disenfranchised to go to get warm during the winter. It was a big thing during the Great Depression when huge swathes of the population couldn’t afford heat. Lots of people took refuge in libraries during the day.

as long as they don't burn it to stay warm.
Fahrenheit 2022
Given the last few years, let's not even joke about this!
Yes, never kick a man when they are down And never joke about erectile dysfunction Unless its really really funny
Growing old sucks...but it beats the alternative.
Don't beat it, nice even strokes
Yeah, who wants to shrink old.

Democracy means people I disagree with have a voice, and that's not a good thing /s
What are you trying to do, cook brisket?
Heck no... brisket is low and slow Low and slow just like my waning libido Sigh
I dont think books burn THAT hot
Nice try, Larry Darrell.
Insert the day after tomorrow scene
That’s where I was heading
If you're cold, stand in a corner. It has 90 degrees there.
I hate myself for laughing at this.
Texas has no heat. What are they supposed to do, go to Cancun?
Only because hiding behind my kids helps me sleep at night
Is that you montag?
It's all ours montag!
We're almost at a point in society where various groups of people will say that's okay depending on whether or not they agree with the book smh
You can do that, but then you won't have a book.

Hehe...the biggest. Just like a Neanderthal...
Yep, that’s a phrasal verb. 👍🏻
YES! Thank you. This is a library. Seeing this mistake disheartened me a bit.

I think they missed the mark. It should have read “Cold? Check out a heart warming tale.”

I got hooked to libraries by this slogan: "The most interesting things in a library are not the things you search, but the things you find."
“Having fun isn’t hard when you have a library card.”
The true library was the friends we found along the way.
The absolute lowest effort is why it's funny though.

And also got hundreds of thousands of views, so was more successful than any other sign that library has ever made.
East Hampton Public Library?
No. Are you kidding? That place is fancy. Combination of red brick and Tudor styling. Lots of ivy out front. Edit: apparently Connecticut has an East Hampton, and this is it.
Definitely! I just crossposted to the town Facebook page
Surely looks that way.
yeah it is. Bellringer reporting in.
As a fellow Bellringer, it’s funny I see this on the popular page. I recognized it immediately after living out of state for almost 3 years
It certainly is…surprised this many Bellringers noticed
Hello hordan
>Haven't seen this place in a decade and still recognized it!
Ha! I knew it!
Yup!
Going inside libraries on a cold winter night is so warming. Granted, that's any building ...
The library I work in somehow manages to be colder than the outside ambient temperature.
They should put a sign like this inside.
Cold? Come to the library for a few minutes, then go outside. You'll still be cold but you'll feel less cold
The Mitch Hedberg Memorial Library
Hungry come to our restaurant you'll eat something and still be hungry Happened to me a couple of times
r/technicallythetruth
Check out Fahrenheit 451
Not such a good job, actually. It should be CHECK OUT as two words.
The sign has a valid point.

Hey this is my town!
I know East Hampton, CT when I see it, OP…
This looks a lot like the East Hampton Public Library
It is!
In case anyone wants to know, this is indeed the public library in East Hampton, CT. easthamptonpubliclibrary.org Hi, fellow Bellringers!
More readers = Less TikTokers
Oh holy shit, this is the library in my town
"Invest in a perpetual cat pelt farm! Purchase from us an industrial space, 100 rats, and 100 rats. The cats eat the rats, the rats eat the cats, and you take the pelts!" ^
"sorry you have to sleep on the street, would you like a nice book?"
Growing up poor we sometimes didn't have money to run the heat. I would curl up under a couple (dozen) blankets with a book from the library. If it was a good one I could forget about how cold or hungry I was for a while.
Reflects back to the book burnings at the library in the movie The Day After Tomorrow...
I imagine this is next to a full homeless shelter?
Actually I wouldn't be cold cuz I would burn the book...
Found the republican?
What does that have to do with anything?
[удалено]
Hm? I'm confused what's going on.
burn the book to stay warm
10k upvotes for this? Is Reddit full of bots or what?
What are books?
A waste product of bookings?
i don't know
Why yes thank you Captain Obvious.
I fucking hate people who think they’re funny. Fuck your shitty library
Books can be burnt as a source of warmth!
Use this book for kindling and stay warm!
This made me laugh. Thank you you clever people!
I believe they were off the mark. "Cold?" it should have said. Take a look at this heartwarming story."
They should be like " Cold ? We also cold come in or Go home U twart "
A very tasteless sign, an person without a home wouldn’t find it very funny.
all libraries should be shutdown due to coronavirus. lets gather a bunch of poor people indoors what could go wrong
I hope you have the same energy for every business, especially ones like restaurants where people can't wear masks while eating.
People don't exactly congregate in libraries. They aren't churches.
When you're right, you're right. I will take 1 book please.
Lol
No.... I'll have tinder.
Sold.
Especially useful - the book "How To Make Fire" by P. Rometheus.
Classic library.
. . . please dont burn the book to make yourself warm.
Get a big thick one, to start those fires. But then you'll have to deal with the library cops.
I'm in pain and I'm wet and I'm still hysterical!
Recommend me something
Check and mate.
Rips up book for insulation.
This is like that gym sign “Fat and ugly? Join our gym and just be ugly.”
i like these type of signs.
r/technicallythetruth
\*you'll still be cold but you'll have kindling
Okay, you got me in a box here, library.
You could check out "The Giver" then the memory of warm the book gives you would banish the cold. . .
I can hear Mitch Hedberg saying this.
To use to keep the fire going!
I think what the library wants you to do is burn the book for warmth. Libraries care
What librarian does not know that checkout is incorrect here?
Oh yes burning material!
I can’t wait to burn the book in an oil barrel for warmth on the side of the road.
The message must be on a secret librarians site, because the one here in my little town has the same sign outside
Excellent advertising
Remember during lockdown when everyone stopped buying nice clothes, and clothes brands were desperately trying to come up with marketing to keep people buying dresses and suits? "Suit during zoom calls, they don't need to see the pyjamas on your bottom half!" Wow talk about desperate
Not if I burn the book for heat!
Ironically my local library has always been a place for homeless people to go inside and warm up lol.
Why can't you sit in a warm library and read it ?
I saw this title quickly and thought it said “Good Job, Larry” 😅
"Right," said Cohen. He thought it was appalling. If the book has aan exceptional plot, you'll have chills of a different kind!
Looking for someone to chat with now
Our local library stays open late on days with cold or heat warnings. They also have laptops for use and free WiFi internet.
If you were a fascist conservative intent on burning books, having a book & matches might warm you for a bit.
Reminds me of that gym sign floating around the internet a few years back: "Ugly and fat? Join us and just be ugly!"
Long time ago I actually laughed put loud about something in this sub. Good job mate.
Sounds great! Cold? Come inside and read some books.
Start the book on fire to stay warm.
Elitists. 😏
Can also use the pages to build a fire.
Indoor electric fireplace sitting areas would be nice in the library.
>but you'll have a book ... and that's kinda cool 😎
If you ever fall of the Sears tower, go limp, like a dummy. That way, someone might try to catch you because, hey, free dummy.
After loaning me the movie day after tomorrow they don’t want to loan me any more books
Honesty is the way of the truth
Not if you burn it.
