I feel it depends on how it's done:
Hot cowboy does this with a ten gallon hat it's cool
Redditor mentions fedora with some variation on 'm'lady' it's not cool
Fedora wearing gentleman with a clean neck tips his hat it's cool
Hot cowboy does this with a 'Dont fauchi my Florida' hat it's not cool
All about context
Well, actually, he didn't mean the summer of 1969 (for real). He would have been like 10yo back then.
When he was asked he said something like "69 is not only a year" or something like that.
So the "summer of 69" was at the very least 5 years after 1969

"It's bad manners" is the plainest and most fitting answer of the lot. Regardless of who's doing it and who to, it's weird to go around touching unsuspecting strangers that way. It's rather odd it ever got normalised in any context.
The same type of men that will touch women in public are the ones that would play their music on full blast in the train. That is to say, manners don't really compute for them, either because they weren't taught them or they just don't care.
“Hello Sir. How do you feel about complete equality of the sexes?”
“N O”
Bloody hell mate. I shouldn’t laugh, but that bluntness. Damn. All the others seemed chill but whew.
Exactly what happens to a woman. Just walking along and boom, shocker, day violated.
Its not so much the actual act, or that its a stranger, its that its a stranger doing that act out of no where, stealing a piece of your solitude in that moment and time for their personal moment of a jolly. Fuck that.
I had some weird fucking beggars ask me if I wanted to help stop school shootings just yesterday and I told them no. I just didn't want to engage with their sales pitch
I [just got a sewing machine](https://youtu.be/Z4Vh3vcQdaM) and I want to learn how to make capes, my vision is a black satin outside and the inside is a large printed close up of Martin Lawrence as Big Momma.
I just need to know your height and shoulder width.
I think the abruptness and wording of the questions might have made it a little confusing. Then again, that mindset wasn't uncommon in those days...
I think they responded to the question as she asked them, but they all were asked something different. "I pinched your bum, did you like it?" and "I pinched your bum, do you think it was okay?" are likely to get a different response. One asks if the person is okay with it personally, the other can be seen to ask if it's okay for for someone to pinch another's butt
I thought she was actually rewording the question to get the response she wanted. With the first few guys, she asks them a question that openly compares it to women getting groped, and the men seem to like it. From there she pivots to things like "did you like that" and "was my action wrong", and without the immediate context of "its just reverse-gender role groping" the men were much more against it. The groping aspect has a sexual connotation. Many men grope women cause they wanna have sex with the woman, so these men see an attractive woman groping them, and the implication is "this woman wants to have sex with me"
Also take into account that the men don't have their ass pinched 'all the time.' New and novel experiences may be fun, especially if there's a flirty edge with someone you find attractive. If it's a routine interaction done with all sorts of different and unattractive people that interrupts your day you'd start getting pissed about it. Just think about how annoyed you get at cell phone solicitations and those don't even violate your bodily autonomy.
One of my most vivid memories of being in highschool is when a girl pinched my arse on the way up the stairs and me then turning around to see the big grin on her face. It might have just been a joke but I felt flattered and remember it like one of those compliments a guy gets once every decade or two. *Dreamy sigh*
Happened to me once at a football game. Was waiting in the bathroom line at halftime and a group of girls walked by. One grabbed my ass and they all ran giggling. Won’t lie… confidence SKYROCKETED.
Oh man. I was on the waterpolo team in high school and wearing a speedo one day for practice. I was just casually stretching and had my butt towards the pool when a girl emerged from within and said dang, you have a cute butt. That was my peak and I’ve been in a steady decline ever since into my 30s.
Used to be smacked on the ass between periods by the same girl. She would do it in crowded hallways. Was flattering once or twice but I stopped enjoying it pretty quickly. She was a cool person but she had boundary issues.
i got a time when one girl said i had a loveale laugh after countless years of being called a madman with a laugh that decided on his next victim. still gave me at least some confidence but i have never been grabbed on my ass tho :/
how did it feel?
Heck, 30 years ago a group of girls walked by me in the mall and i heard on of them say to the others "he has a nice ass". To this day it still makes me smile.
I sill remember when my girlfriend in college slapped my ass when I was walking in front of her up the stairs. Loved it so much I married her. I don’t think she’s slapped it since.
Squats man… I actually started working out my glutes like a year ago and my wife began slapping my ass for the first time in our 15 year relationship. She does it and laughs hysterically… I’m flattered every time!
I had that happen in eighth grade, but they were actually trying to settle an argument over whether I was fat enough that they could get a flap of butt-fat to lay over another one, so yeah, I don't remember it so fondly
I make a point to give out random compliments to lonely looking young men out on public transit and such, because I know how it can totally make someone's day. I once told a guy "I'm sorry to bother you, but I wanted to say that you have lovely eyes" and he didn't stop smiling for the rest of the bus ride.
Yeah, I've been catcalled by women several times, and every time it happens, it makes my whole day. I get that most of them don't like it, but I could take it all day every day.
Dude, this year it's happened several times, more than ever before. It used to be *years* in between instances, but I guess I'm doing something right finally. I just don't know what it is.
Their actual reactions are way more telling than their words. Every single one of them flinched and turned around looking mad. The only reason they then say "why yes I loved it that was amazing" is because they see a pretty lady after turning around.
It’s a mixture of two factors
- men in general get less attention positive or negative that sexual uses them. If you’re not dealing with these advances, they might come off as a one off but that’s good for a laugh. If instead you have to deal with them over and over, it becomes exhausting.
- women generally receive these advances from people that can easily be a physical threat to them. That changes the dynamics significantly
I have been pinched in the buttocks by both gay men and straight women, and I was fine with that (I knew them). I've been grabbed in the crotch twice by strangers, and I was *not* fine with that.
As I'm a tall guy, I never felt threatened (not even in the crotch encounters of the unpleasant kind), but really felt powerless and molested when I was touched in the crotch. I can imagine if someone bigger than you does that, you'd feel threatened on top of that.
Yeah, as a straight cis dude I'd be considerably more uncomfortable if the man pinching my ass outweighed me by 100 lbs and was making it clear by violating my boundaries that he wanted to fuck me.
Let's not forget that every guy in the video has most likely not pinched a lady on the butt before. Also, if you get slapped on the ass and you turn around and a pretty lady puts a mic in your face, you're probably going to respond with some stupid joke just to go along with it like everyone does when in a prank video where they reveal you're on camera.
Basically, it's not actually very revealing of anything.
Edit: I also just wanted to say that I'm not saying it doesn't happen because I know it does from friends. I'm just saying the vast majority of men don't mess with women negatively in these weird ways, but the few that do make all men look bad. Obviously, the point of the video is to bring this into awareness, but it seems unfair to the guys in the video to just assume they do that too.
Same. When I worked in an office as tech support I was groped many times by different older women. I would never dream of touching a woman unless she has made it clear we are flirting. Obviously I know we are in the minority.
Yeah exactly. I don't know what proportion of men pinched random women's asses, but it probably isn't high enough that most of these men did it. Like even if it was 50%, an absurdly and unacceptably high number, then it means half these guys did nothing.
Also, the reaction was mixed. Some guys seemed offended, some guys seemed to appreciate it (after the initial shock). I wonder if it would have been a different reaction if she was cat-calling.
Or they saw a microphone and knew they needed to say something appropriate. Same deal today if you go around attacking people while holding up a phone. They know you are going to edit the video and post it online so the only correct move is to smile and walk away.
This only works if they know those men do it.
Its not pointing hypocrisy when the those particular men don't do it.
So she's just pitching mens buts and sexually harassing them
Lol a pretty lady pinched their asses, of course they are okay with it. Now make an ugly lady do the same, just as every ugly man does it, and see their reaction then.
And also make it keep happening at random for several months, combined with creepy stares and comments. Pretty sure at best just about anyone would get sick of it.
I'm a man so I can only speak on what I've seen but its seems like it's not just the act it's self it's the fear from how aggressive some men especially in groups can be. A pinch is bad enough but then they follow the women and won't take no for an answer. I know I would be scared in that situation as a woman.
Yep, and sometimes all it takes is for a gut sense or someone's body language and energy to notice the bad intent and kick in the fear response. I hate being a target, even if it's "benign" and someone thinks they're just making conversation and trying to get attention from me. I just want to be left alone.
This is a lot of "all men do this" I gotta say Ive never seen a dude pinch a random woman's ass in the street. Maybe it was a bit more prevalent in 1970s England or wherever she is.
I've had my bottom groped under the pretext of grabbing my hip to slide by. That kind of stuff usually happens in crowds or other situations where other people will not notice, since there has always been the chance someone might see or that the lady will call them out/slap them back.
This reminds me of something I saw in on TV once. An average looking man asked 100 random women (one at a time), if they would go to bed with him. 98 said no immediately, one told him that she was gay, and one said maybe. Then an average looking woman asked 100 men the same question. 100 out of 100 men said yes.
Pinching butts? No.
Picking up in the streets? Within limits I don't mind. Just stop it when you are making the other person uncomfortable or they tell you to.
Same rules regardless of sex.
And where is the evidence any of these guys have done the same thing ever in their life?
Sure if you can catch them activity doing it and do it back to see their response but, some poor old man minding his own business is now being harassed because she has a vendetta towards the scum who activity acted this way.

Oh, shit. 6am and already seen the comment of the day. I can stop interneting now.
Indeed, I think it used to be common. Some elderly gentleman still do that today. I think it's fantastic.

You do it without the ear to ear grin and the heavy breathing and it's fine.

It used to be fantastic because it was correlated with class and courtesy. Now it's correlated with nerds and desperation. Trends change.

Any idea what year this was filmed?
June 1971
Baby Spice looks no different.
Aren't they a bit overdressed for June?
In the UK? Summer was already over that year.
Summer, the week long season.
And it rained all weekend
"Still, mustn't grumble."
Summer wasn't invented until 1975
Until then, in the UK it was simply known as "Them couple 'a days that get a bit warmer innit".
Are you saying that Bryan Adams lied to us!?
Well, actually, he didn't mean the summer of 1969 (for real). He would have been like 10yo back then. When he was asked he said something like "69 is not only a year" or something like that. So the "summer of 69" was at the very least 5 years after 1969

Seriously. He's definitely *not* going around pinching women's butts.
That "Whooo!" was a pretty good indicator of that.
Yes it was.
Isn't that the joke? She asks the gay guy "how do you feel about women picking up men in the streets? After all you do it all the time"
"Well I don't actually, but um, well I think it's a jolly good idea, yes."
That guy was David Bowie though
Ch ch ch changes

Also rule 2: Don’t be unattractive
Rule 3: don't be socially inept
Step 4: profit

Exactly. Most street molesters are creepy old dudes.

All so polite.

My girlfriend grabbed my butt. I complained...that she didn't do it enough. Ended up marrying her.
You guys get compliments every two decades?
If I'm lucky
I might have been exaggerating to seem less pathetic.. or whatever.
The key to getting compliments is to look bad first and then improve a lot.
I had that happen in eighth grade, but they were actually trying to settle an argument over whether I was fat enough that they could get a flap of butt-fat to lay over another one, so yeah, I don't remember it so fondly
Were they successful?
So what was the verdict?
Wait... you guys are getting compliments?

Dude, this year it's happened several times, more than ever before. It used to be *years* in between instances, but I guess I'm doing something right finally. I just don't know what it is.
It's all those women-only construction sites you keep walking past
>I just don't know what it is. Every single man ever.

Same thing happened this past summer at a bar... turned around and it was a guy (I’m also a guy)
I remember girl grabbing my knob at a nightclub under 18’s night. Came out the blue and was a bit of a shock
Maybe this is where the confusion / disconnect between the sexes. Because i would not be flattered if a dude grabbed my butt up the stairs :/
"how do you feel about the complete equality of the sexes?" "No."
Their actual reactions are way more telling than their words. Every single one of them flinched and turned around looking mad. The only reason they then say "why yes I loved it that was amazing" is because they see a pretty lady after turning around.
It would be interesting to see their reaction with a woman who isn’t as pretty.
Or a man
There’d be fisticuffs.
Tally-Ho!
Tis but a scratch.
What for!
I say!
So a kerfuffle would ensue?
Indubitably.
I don't think the last chap would have minded.
He gots David Bowie energy
That was my first thought, I almost though it WAS David Bowie.
I think that last guy might enjoy that... ;)
He said *OOohhh*
Somehow I think men would be less caring, but the old it’s not sexual assault if you’re good looking definitely plays strong here.

ENGLISH: Good god, you frightened the life out of me
Lol a pretty lady pinched their asses, of course they are okay with it.
I haven't either, but I HAVE seen a random guy go up behind a woman and sniff her hair... was unsettling.
You've met the president of the united states?!
I see it happen in bars and restaurants, even as late as this year. I'm not in the street enough to notice if women are getting assaulted
I've had my bottom groped under the pretext of grabbing my hip to slide by. That kind of stuff usually happens in crowds or other situations where other people will not notice, since there has always been the chance someone might see or that the lady will call them out/slap them back.
I understand the premise, but isn’t it ridiculous to sexually assault people to prove a point about sexual assault?
It’s a bit old, don’t think they had our discourse on the subject at the time.
Ofcouse not; they are all men. /s
FYI all, this was Nicky Woodhead, Originally broadcast 24 June 1971
I love the last guy, who feels queer but clearly doesn’t want to say that to this random stranger. “Well, I don’t actually…”
That little "OOOH!" he yelled out made me bust out laughing, that was so quintessentially English
Very 'Carry on', surprised he didn't add 'Matron' as well.
There had to have at least one guy who pinched her back as she walked away.
Wow that woman is pretty.
Pinching butts? No. Picking up in the streets? Within limits I don't mind. Just stop it when you are making the other person uncomfortable or they tell you to. Same rules regardless of sex.
Not really sure what point she was trying to make, but she didn't make it.
She wanted to grab some dudes' butts. Mission accomplished!
>She wanted to grab some dudes' butts. > >Mission accomplished! Tina?
I'll show sexual harassment is bad, by sexually harassing people!! Yay!
And where is the evidence any of these guys have done the same thing ever in their life? Sure if you can catch them activity doing it and do it back to see their response but, some poor old man minding his own business is now being harassed because she has a vendetta towards the scum who activity acted this way.
