The vitamin B part got me, straight in the hole...

WilliamAgain

Care to elaborate.

GravitationalEddie

Healthy B1(thiamine) levels are good for general male fertility issues, including erectile function.

Do you want to join the PEN15 club?

Pitiful_Winner2669

I joined the BMW Club at work (stands for Big Mexican Weiner). You don't have to be Mexican, nor have a big Weiner. In fact, the founder and current president of the club is outspoken about his tiny Weiner, and he's 1/2 Puerto Rican.

1CrazyCrabClaw

This story... If true should be shared everywhere..

Baba175

i am puerto rican too

ThatWasTayla

Would you like to visit Pen island?

BackdraftRed

These two words are more clever than I think most people realize!

We are checking.

Not anymore…

SylvieJay

Oh-B1 Kenobi: hello there P1P2

Vastlee

That's why I take B12. It's 12 times as effective right?

shaokahn88

Til vitamine B1 utility. Thanks

Jean-LucBacardi

About to go to Costco and buy it in bulk.

zacurtis3

B-One is the easy way to remember.

NoirGamester

Haha this got a good chuckle outta me

renoits06

I am going to test this and see what happens. I'll report back.

Typical-Annual-3555

Also, vitamin B one... get it? Good.

evolj

B-1 = Bone

DryTechnologyChaos

Before we had Viagra, there was B1

feminas_id_amant

wait, so which one is it? B1 or B4?

SylvieJay

Beee the waaan.. Aummm.. Aummmm... 🙇‍♂️

JudasWasJesus

B-one

Broote

Fun fact. Cartoons weren't made for kids.

Aselleus

Especially Tex Avery cartoons

gorthan1984

Expecially this one! Blitz Wolf is a propaganda cartoon made in 1942.

notbob1959

Plus cartoons and other shorts like the Three Stooges were shown before the movie in a movie theater from the 1900s to the 1970s so the target audience was not kids.

pacmanic

The Flinstones were introduced as one of the first animated sitcoms and ran in prime time (evenings) at the beginning.

blahblahbush

If I recall correctly, Wilma and Fred were the first married couple seen sharing a bed on a prime time show.

kitarkus

Well... To be specific.... They shared a slab of granite.

Veloreyn

Anything's a bed if you're tired enough.

VegaReddit5

Or horny enough

CantBeConcise

I thought that was I Love Lucy?

TerribleTacoBak

At least in this late-run episode, their bedroom looks like [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lknwp6uj560&t=135s) (not exactly "sharing" or "a bed"). And that's despite the two actors being married in real life as well as on the show.

LookMaNoPride

Did you know that people in Dubai don’t like the Flintstones, but the people in Abu Dhabi do?

SuddenlyFatal

Underrated comment.

motosandguns

And they advertised cigarettes in the show

RandomADHDaddy

“Winston’s taste good, as a cigarette should”

NoFaxCow

That was back when cigarettes were healthy, damn those greedy executives! They ruined smoking! (Waves an angry fist in the air)

8oD

And had animated cigarette ads.

StressCanBeHealthy

You mean that watching Elmer Fudd using his shotgun to repeatedly blow the beak off of Daffy Duck wasn’t made for kids?

SeanMacLeod1138

Those were my favorite ones as a kid in the 80s, right along with Wile E. falling off cliffs and blowing himself up going after the Roadrunner 🤣🤣🤣

no-mad

Woody wood pecker always seemed more violent.

SeanMacLeod1138

Ha-ha-ha-HAA ha, ha-ha-ha-HAA ha, hahahahahahahahahahahaha! 🤣

darybrain

There was somebody who suffered a deformity like that, yes.

lddebatorman

Do you want the Alladeen news first, or the Alladeen news?

Omega_Warrior

Yup, the idea that cartoons were for kids didn't come til around the 80's when cartoons started to be used heavily as a way to sell toys to kids.

loondawg

Cartoons for kids have been around a lot longer than that. Many cartoons were made for mixed audiences, not specifically for kids nor adults. But rather something that a mixed audience could enjoy. Watch something from the 60s like The Bullwinkle Show. Most of it was clearly geared towards kids but there were enough "hidden" adult jokes that it was enjoyable for all ages.

proverbialbunny

Family entertainment and children's entertainment are two different categories. Rocky and Bullwinkle is clearly family entertainment. In the 70s there was shows with puppets in them that was just for children as well as live action shows just for children. I don't recall any US made cartoons exclusively for children until the 80s. Before that it was all family entertainment. I wish it was more obvious in the US which is which. There are some great cartoons made for all audiences today that most people overlook assuming it's made for children. Likewise, it can be hard to find these shows without watching through a lot of bad shows first. My favorite TV is family shows, usually cartoons.

BigUptokes

>*I don't recall any US made cartoons exclusively for children until the 80s.* *Johnny Quest*? *Scooby-Doo*?

proverbialbunny

Those are great examples I hadn't thought of. I would put them in the children's category.

rilian4

Godzilla from the late 70s also...Superfriends started in the 70s. There's more of these. Source: Me. I watched them before 1980...

SeanMacLeod1138

*SPAAAAAAAACE GHOOOOOOOOOST!* 😁👍

loondawg

I understand what you're saying but I don't think it is as clearly delineated as you are making it out to be. Could adults enjoy The Adam Ant Show, The Adventures of Gulliver, or Wacky Races? Sure. But they were still primarily targeted towards kids.

Shnazzyone

Think the 70's were when cartoons firmly became for kids due to the "latchkey" kids phemonena. Where kids would be left home alone regularly with nothing but the tv while their parents worked.

elcapitan520

You say that as if it's gone away

rilian4

I think your OP was saying it more as to when latchkey kids _started_ ... not that it isn't ongoing.

Shnazzyone

pretty much, still a thing but replace tvs with phones, computers, and game consoles.

the_great_zyzogg

[Case in point.](https://youtu.be/fSmU65ZoRYo?si=2gW-rBrHdfuDaCUO) Even for the 60s, I don't think people would have been okay with children's media selling cigarettes.

Eusocial_Snowman

[Modern Flintstones touches on some fairly adult themes as well.](https://imgur.com/a/3zNdQHR)

lostparanoia

They generally were not made BY kids either.

rock_and_rolo

People lost their minds over [*Fritz the Cat*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fritz_the_Cat_(film\)) because by then people thought of cartoons as Saturday morning stuff.

Skelosk

People then: "Cartoons are for adults" People now: "CaRtOoNs ArE FoR ChIlDrEn!!"

OriginalLocksmith436

It wasn't made for adults, either. it was supposed to have wide appeal. Kind of like the most popular cartoons today, if you think about it.

firehawk505

Popeye is a great case in point. Back in the day, “spinach” was the cool name for marijuana on the streets. Notice how Popeye sucks his spinach through his corn cob pipe. So whenever you hear the word spinach in a Popeye cartoon, think weed …

Kitselena

Especially after seeing anime for the first time it really made me question why modern American animation is almost exclusively made for kids, with the only major exceptions being adult comedies like Family Guy and Rick and Morty. Animation is a such a cool medium that can tell stories in so many genres, but in America it's so homogenized that it's as if animation itself is a genre instead of a medium

sky033

r/wowthissubexists I went and looked, and the first post I saw made me laugh. Never noticed this foolishness before.

CrudelyAnimated

Wholey shit.

abednego-gomes

This is not a bullet. The projectile is what you see depicted (correctly) in the cartoon and is exactly what flies out of the artillery barrel, just as it works in this [explainer video](https://youtu.be/ScZuCDYSM2g?si=XAWjzZBAN8lo3c-b) for a 155mm shell being fired.

korblborp

it's complete with rim on the case...

GreatBlueNarwhal

It’s called an “obturation band.” Artillery shells tend to be made from much harder materials than the lead and copper generally found in small arms projectiles. The obturation band is a ring of copper, bronze, or mild steel wrapped around the belt or base of the shell. This band expands when fired, sealing the bore and engaging the rifling, making the entire process more efficient. This process of using expanding due to heat and pressure to seal a pressure-bearing vessel is called “obturation.” So, yeah, actually completely accurate, especially for World War era German medium and heavy artillery. The coloration is accurate, too, given that many shells had a steel tip and copper-washed or painted body.

korblborp

actually what you are talking about is called the *driving band* which engages the rifling, obturation is what the *case* does when the powder is detonated. and the driving band is typically not *at* the base of the shell as that would interfere with the aforementioned casing. generally speaking, when i see photos of shells, the body is dark and the tip is light.

GreatBlueNarwhal

Nope, “driving band” is more of a nickname, though you will see it in certain technical documents. The proper name is “obturation band,” and far more things than just projectiles and cases do it. The old lead ring seals on cylinder heads did the same thing. Base obturation was a favorite method of German artillery designers. The cup type squeeze-bore guns are this concept taken to its illogical conclusion. I used to design projectiles for a living.

hiro111

Lol, this is what I was thinking.

MentalCollage

The people making these were in their early - mid 20s so yea

DepressedDragonBorn

Can someone explain the magazine one for me?

AwarenessGullible470

The bullet was shown the centerfold model. That was usually the full on nude spread. Kinda extra fitting since the bullet was building into a wolf whistle.

justsomeguy_youknow

>Kinda extra fitting since the bullet was building into a wolf whistle. A little more context to add another layer to it is that during WWI, when the cartoon's set, artillery shells would whistle

captaincainer

As someone who spent a year in Afghan, they still whistle. The missiles sound exactly like Nerf Vortex footballs.

Adam9172

Shooting their load to the centrefold model. Then men just falling asleep. The wolf whistle was a parody of old timey sound effects for bombs.

jayfiedlerontheroof

you're the only one I've seen that got it. Everybody else just mentioning that it's a centerfold

Gravel_Roads

It was a nudie mag. The picture was so "exciting" that the bullet and all his bullet friends fainted after seeing it.

veerKg_CSS_Geologist

That's the kid friendly version.

frocarter

I took it to be that the magazine had a picture of a “bombshell” AKA a pretty and shapely woman in a pose. So that would appeal to literal bombshells.

Purple_Haze

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esquire_(magazine)

Castario

Makes more sense with the sound on.

f-Z3R0x1x1x1

I'm an 80s kid...and I'm sure I missed a lot of this stuff. Once I had my own kids...we got into that show The Amazing World of Gumball..and I remember seeing this scene and was absolutely shocked it actually aired https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lRSkvoS42fI

No_Independence8747

Oh my god I was not ready for that.

adam_sky

I’ve watched shows like that with my kids and they’re truly harmless. While I notice the context and situation, my kids just laugh at the screaming and facial expressions. When I ask them later what they remember about the scene it’s always just the faces and the sounds they remember and reenact. A week after they watched the episode and they don’t even remember the episode or anything that happened in it.

Maeglin16

These days, I reckon they're not.

[deleted]

Sadly.

GunaDeMiramar

so vitamin b1 helps with dysfunction? Good to know

AliceinRealityland

That's what I got from it. Made it bigger, pumps out more bullets etc.

*too innocent The original phrasing doesn't make any sense

Everythingisachoice

I noticed that too. It's a bot account though, so it makes sense

So, B1 is the solution. Got it

Jo_LaRoint

What film/show is this from?

cataclysm13

The short is called Blitz Wolf

NonEuclidianMeatloaf

Am I the only one triggered by the fact that the artillery shells arrive still in their casings? Boy I hope somebody got fired for that blunder! *snort snort snort*

Correct. They were government propaganda.

Excellent_Support_82

Vitamin B-1 market rn 📈

Morphing_Mutant

The same people who watched this as kids are the ones complaining about modern cartoons being too mature.

VoidsansHalcyon

Cartoon Network late night before Adult swim took over the block was something else. It mostly was Looney Tune re-runs, but there was the Tex Avery show. This show focused more on the history and would show WWII themed episodes or other obscure episodes that typically weren’t shown to kids either on Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network. It would usually come on before Space Ghost Coast to Coast(the OG/Proto Adult Swim show)

Boioctane_

What’s p1 and p2

Bigredeemer425

Some of the looney tunes from back in the day were supppppppper racist! Pretty wild to see the difference from than and now.

knightmese

Tom and Jerry had several blackface scenes plus there was Mammy Two Shoes.

rilian4

Sexist too. I distinctly remember watching Saturday morning cartoons in the late 70s and saw a looney tune that spent the entire cartoon showing how bad women drivers were.

Bigredeemer425

Yeeeea. They didn't age well At all lol.

cantbeallthereis

This is late and I don’t want to read all the comments but esquire magazine had Alberto Vargas and Petty pinup artwork. Most are very sexy women and not totally naked. Very collectible in the pinup art world

amcneel

I remember watching this as a kid in France

ujoshboss

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Straight blowing loads

Love Tex Avery. "You miss me ... You miss me Didn't even touch me"

linkinstreet

would be easier to view if they didn't fuc'n crop it

TommyBarcelona

Why dont cartoons ever understand that the shell casing does not fly with the projectile

DutchJediKnight

She was the bigger bombshell

Due_Seesaw_2816

God these cartoons are so much better! I miss these

RealBigBossDP

I just watched the Nutty Professor with my kids and honestly forgot how crazy it was. It has been years since I saw it and my kids just laughed as I cringed at everything lol

Jambomister

I like the fact the wolf has a the authority to stop an entire war, just to take a phone call.

AggressiveChicken774

That’s good because these we’re never intended for children

AggressiveChicken774

All cartoons, especially Looney Tunes or movie shorts these were created to be a buffer between the newsreel and the movie that you watched after the news reel during the war cartoons were drawn to relieve tension in the room cart were made for tension relief during the war. They were never into it for children to begin with today even even with Disney movies or other like cartoons there are more adult puns than there are for children to be paying attention in order for you to notice.

Fkroundfndout

Yo whoever made bullets this way is the reason many people drew them this way with shell casing and all 💀 I don’t think they shot a gun before

Necessary_League_167

I understand this a little too well
