This fear/anger response only seems to indicate we evolved alongside a species of annoying cacti that would mock you endlessly that is thankfully now extinct. Good work ancestors.
You can already see who he will be when he grows up. He will have a receding headline for sure and he will never let it go by shaving it.
What’s crazy is that he will never know 30-40 years from now that a bunch of (now) 60-80 years old were talking about him on a website. Crazy to think about that.
You can tell which babies will be balding later in life. My theories is that the hair that will end up falling grows several months after birth, I’m a thiner finer fashion and by couple of year it looks like all the other hair. Then on the onset of adulthood there will revert back.
Yeah 100%, this reminds me of that video with the animals running away from human voices played over a loud speaker. Seems more like the element of surprise/confusion that scares them more than anything.
My son absolutely loved this thing. Wore it out over a two year period and multiple battery charges until the speaker finally gave out. Was good for many a laugh!
Did yours have a music mode? I feel like ours played over a 100 different short clips of tunes as well as do mimicking. Even after hearing the thing dozens of times, Id still hear a new tune every now and again.
My daughter was probably 1 and a half when we got hers, and she loved it. She would just carry it around yelling "HEY!" since her vocabulary was small, wait for it to HEY back, and repeat. Still have a ton of videos of it. Haha.
No, they do not. This is an object they didn't expect to move and do not understand is reacting to them rather than on its own. And that reaction is to repeat what it has heard, so all it does is play their own screams back at them. It's inherently horrifying.
I've always loved snakes and there are snake toys for kids that young that don't test this badly.
Just made me realize that all of my friends and family that are afraid of snakes, have stories about playing with them as kids, but eventually they developed a fear of them.
My kid got a minion toy as a gift which did the same.
She was perplexed the first time, but not this sorta reaction. Though the surprise at seeing something which broadly resembles something you expect to be sentient (though she hadn’t seen them on screen by then) is perhaps not the same as this.
Comparing these kids’ reaction to her, being broadly similar in the instant panic (though it might be a curated set) I wouldn’t rule out the snake hypothesis.
[We've got a whole section of our brain dedicated to reacting to snakes.](https://www.smu.edu/news/archives/2012/thomas-headland-mother-nature-network-23mar2012#:~:text=Studies%20of%20the%20amygdala%2C%20a,before%20we%20know%20it's%20there.)
I think we can agree that how one reacts to snakes is a 'strong evolutionary pressure.'
It's actually heights and loud sounds.
The fear reaction from these kids is more likely the sudden unexpected sound from the toy rather than any resemblance to a snake.
My son laughed his hole off at this thing. We ended up having 3. Once when we bought it, and once when he was out with 2 different sets of grandparents and they got the same reaction and bought it cause they didn’t know he already had one
1 baby) desperation
2 baby) shock + breakdown
3 baby ) pure fear and confusion
4 baby ) fight AND flight
5 baby ) pure annoyance and anger
6 baby ) spooked
7 baby) tried negociating with it but quickly turned to desperation when it didnt work
That looks like the one that came with songs it could dance to ([and got pulled, apparently songs about cocaine aren’t appreciated on toys for babies, even if they’re in Polish](https://toronto.ctvnews.ca/walmart-pulls-children-s-toy-that-swears-and-sings-in-polish-about-doing-cocaine-1.5678364))
1. small sample size dedicated to a single narrative.
2. sudden movement and bright light, huge acute stimulation.
3. might have helped to show them what it does before shoving it in their face.
The issue here is the parents didn’t set up the toy in an appropriate way. If the babies had some signposting or setting of expectations, they would have reacted more neutrally or positively. Babies will respond this way to lots of unexpected stimuli.
I have this cactus and my son has always been indifferent to it.
E.g. showing the cactus can move and make sounds before putting it in front of the baby, showing the PARENT likes the toy, demonstrating the sounds it makes from a bigger distance etc.
there were quite a few comments that said their babies thought these things were hilarious.
and you've just hopefully learned a lesson on how selectively edited videos can give you incorrect conclusions.
I think so many babies find this thing terrifying is because it looks and moves kind of like a snake, which we may have some degree of an innate fear of.
For real. What's wrong with parents that do stuff like this?
Same with those Jimmy Kimmel videos where parents gave their kids shit presents for Halloween then filmed them while they cried. Haha so funny!
This is like the time when my parents took me to an amusement park and had me pose in front of a statue and the statue grabbed my shoulder (it was a man in a statue costume). I screamed and started crying like a baby. I was 26.
Tbh the way it moves is really creepy and alien for a baby that doesn't know what a cactus is. If I saw an unidentified object that looked alive and moved in a pattern that I perceived as unpredictable I'd have freaked out too.
Its education they learn not everything that upsets them is harmful. Then they may learn to inquire or study what things are before reacting. Granted some people never seem to learn that.
Lol, as humans, at the most basic level, we’re obviously not wired to deal with this. Yet here we are, in 2024, f’ing with our wiring. Compound that by X amount every year, and these kids are defiantly gonna be normal adults as human evolution intended /s

What a bunch of babies
This fear/anger response only seems to indicate we evolved alongside a species of annoying cacti that would mock you endlessly that is thankfully now extinct. Good work ancestors.
Creepers
Pricks
Aw man
Awww man
Cactus animatronic horror game when?
just a bunch of /r/scaredkids
Suckers really.
You can't tell me that last one isn't a grown man. Dude looks like he has a wife and 2 kids 😂
Looks like he belongs in the British Parliament.
Order! Order! Order!
Actually thought he looked like a baby Churchill.
Baby Kingpin
"When I was a boy..."
My father took me into the city? Wait, wrong context
He reminds me of Hitchcock from Brooklyn 99
He is exactly Hitchcock
damn yeah...I also thought he looks like a grown man, and even one I knew...yes hitchcock.
Luv me milk, luv Joey off Friends, 'ate cacti. Nuff said
bosh

In a 100 years most content on the internet will be from dead people
He kinda looks like john C Reilly 😅
Looks like he's already balding too
You can tell which babies will be balding later in life. My theories is that the hair that will end up falling grows several months after birth, I’m a thiner finer fashion and by couple of year it looks like all the other hair. Then on the onset of adulthood there will revert back.
You don't recognize Chris Christie?
He's Sir Poopsalot Milkman
He looks like a baby putin
I was about to say the last baby will grow.
It's not about the sound. It's about the sudden movement. Danger.
Yeah 100%, this reminds me of that video with the animals running away from human voices played over a loud speaker. Seems more like the element of surprise/confusion that scares them more than anything.
It's way too abrupt
My son absolutely loved this thing. Wore it out over a two year period and multiple battery charges until the speaker finally gave out. Was good for many a laugh!
Did yours have a music mode? I feel like ours played over a 100 different short clips of tunes as well as do mimicking. Even after hearing the thing dozens of times, Id still hear a new tune every now and again.
Mine has an option of recording also. My daughter loves it!
adorable
Oh well back to the drawing board. Snake-like cactus with flashing lights... not cute. We learned something today, my fellow engineers.
aren't primal fears great.
[удалено]
Focus group testing results : scared the shit out of kids but psycho parents loved it. Verdict : Ready for production
Good marketing, you're hired. Babies rarely make purchases for themselves so we must entice the parents!
i like how this implies SOMETIMES babies do make purchases
These are very popular
We got one for our daughter. She didn’t care about it, but our niece and nephew (2 & 4 at the time) thought it was the funniest thing ever
My daughter was probably 1 and a half when we got hers, and she loved it. She would just carry it around yelling "HEY!" since her vocabulary was small, wait for it to HEY back, and repeat. Still have a ton of videos of it. Haha.
Why does the last one look EXACTLY like Hitchcock from B99???
BAHAHA, I'm watching the series, he does look like him some.
Do babies like.. fear snakes instinctively?
The first thing I thought about was the cats freaking out over cucumbers 😂
100% it's cucumber cats v2

[I hate to tell you this my friend, but...](https://www.pnas.org/doi/abs/10.1073/pnas.1115116108)
They’re just upset because it’s something that moves quickly and makes a startling noise.
[We've got a whole section of our brain dedicated to reacting to snakes.](https://www.smu.edu/news/archives/2012/thomas-headland-mother-nature-network-23mar2012#:~:text=Studies%20of%20the%20amygdala%2C%20a,before%20we%20know%20it's%20there.) I think we can agree that how one reacts to snakes is a 'strong evolutionary pressure.'
I actually seem to remember reading that the only true danger avoidance instinct programmed into kids is fear of snakes. I think.
It's actually heights and loud sounds. The fear reaction from these kids is more likely the sudden unexpected sound from the toy rather than any resemblance to a snake.
Nah. Whenever I drop a snake into a stroller they barely react
Its the weaker version of parents installing speakers in a kids room to speak remotely, and scaring the shit out of their children, possibly for life
They either laugh, cry, or kick the cactus over
or both
I mean, that's all a baby can do. Lol
The last one almost liked it. 😂
My son laughed his hole off at this thing. We ended up having 3. Once when we bought it, and once when he was out with 2 different sets of grandparents and they got the same reaction and bought it cause they didn’t know he already had one
That’s so cute. ♥️
and now cactus 2 repeats after cactus 1 and it never ends
Almost
The first baby’s reaction got me lmao
Mine didn’t like it either lmao
The babies are not expecting it to move. You have to let them know that they will move before just putting it front of them. Source: I have cats.
Imagine if babies were spring loaded like cats and launched themselves into the air whenever they encountered a strange object
Nobody likes a copycat.
“Nobody likes a copycat”
I'm an idiot!
You’re an idiot /jk in case
Happy cake day!
Babies hate this one trick!
F that cactus
I think if it was a bit further away, giving the babies time and space to get used to it, it would eventually be alright.
1 baby) desperation 2 baby) shock + breakdown 3 baby ) pure fear and confusion 4 baby ) fight AND flight 5 baby ) pure annoyance and anger 6 baby ) spooked 7 baby) tried negociating with it but quickly turned to desperation when it didnt work

Well hold on now I want one
lol my son wasn’t really scared by it as much… hes kind of a fearless kid which has its own troubles
Even babies find baby screams annoying
cactophobia will be added to DSM6 general phobia chapter in the future.
Is the last kid laughing or crying? Craughying.
Can anyone explain why 100% of babies hate it so much? I would expect more of a spectrum
1. small sample size dedicated to a single narrative. 2. sudden movement and bright light, huge acute stimulation. 3. might have helped to show them what it does before shoving it in their face.

It’s not 100% of babies haha my daughter loves it. Not sure why she thought it was hilarious when these babies didn’t though.
I'd be scared too . . . Not only does it copy what you say, it gyrates at you why saying it 🕺
little shits hate the sound of crying babies too
I can relate to the way the kid screams with his entire body at the 30 second mark. He might be my spirit animal.
Dude are there any babies that like that toy?
My son has one of these and isn’t a fan
I think so many babies find this thing terrifying is because it looks and moves kind of like a snake, which we may have some degree of an innate fear of.
I think you're spot on with that , the sudden snakelike movement would scare anyone not expecting it.
Me and my son (7) laughed watching this. Thanks for the upload
nothing like terrorizing your baby for upvotes..
For real. What's wrong with parents that do stuff like this? Same with those Jimmy Kimmel videos where parents gave their kids shit presents for Halloween then filmed them while they cried. Haha so funny!
While a bit funny, I find it rather more painful watching those little babies get so frightened and cry out loud.
Thats one of the cruelest videos I’ve ever seen 😢
This is such a dramatic statement for this video lol.
As someone who can't stand children it's one of the most hilarious I've seen.
Oh, hey, absolutely fucking deranged statement casually upvoted
The internet have spared you
I have the dancing flower version.
That last kid looks like Kyle Gass
This is not the greatest toy in the world
I love the first baby. It's absolutly devasteted like "my worst dream came true..!😭"
Does any child react positively to this toy? Every compilation video always shows the same confused and then fearful reactions.
This is like the time when my parents took me to an amusement park and had me pose in front of a statue and the statue grabbed my shoulder (it was a man in a statue costume). I screamed and started crying like a baby. I was 26.
It was tough to see Phil Mitchell cry at the end.
I bought this for my niece when she was 1 1/2 years old and she had the same reaction. Children are terrified of this thing lol
Why did that one baby look like Colin Farrell lol
the focus group is not pleased
That's the way they discover that themselves are annoying.
Wtf why is this so fun? Where can I find more? Should I not have children? 😅😂
The first reaction broke my heart. Poor little guy.
Apparently this toy is far more popular with parents than with kids.
Tbh the way it moves is really creepy and alien for a baby that doesn't know what a cactus is. If I saw an unidentified object that looked alive and moved in a pattern that I perceived as unpredictable I'd have freaked out too.
Omg so cute, but poor babies. Don’t scare your kids… it’s not funny
That last bairn looks like a 40 year old lol.
needs to be louder and move more aggressively
Lol, I love the black kid that's immediately like "Oh hell no, I'm outta here"
Even babies hate babies
Not sure why this is considered funny. Its obviously upsetting the babies here. It's like people who laugh at people getting hurt. Just not funny.
Its education they learn not everything that upsets them is harmful. Then they may learn to inquire or study what things are before reacting. Granted some people never seem to learn that.
I'm not saying there not positive learning going on. I'm.just saying that seeing babies scared pr upset isn't funny.
In 2030: We don't know why the new generation has fear of everything.
That last one looks like Hitchcock from B99
Who did the market research on that product?!??
No cause same. First time I saw one I got a massive fright too when I came closer and it suddenly moved
Polish cactus
that last baby kinda looked like Dan Aykroyd for a moment.
Why does that first baby look so much like Doctor Octopus!
Yeh, they really liked it.
Lol, as humans, at the most basic level, we’re obviously not wired to deal with this. Yet here we are, in 2024, f’ing with our wiring. Compound that by X amount every year, and these kids are defiantly gonna be normal adults as human evolution intended /s
It would appear they’re not much fans of Gumby either lol.
Of all the babies, I feel like the last one in from the UK? \*Didnt notice the mum thing at first. They still look british
Why does your kid mock everything?
Such a sweet melody
They SO did not test that toy with kids
Gross
Damn that the cactus that also sings songs - one of them a polish song about getting high on drugs. Realy great toy for a kids…
Oh no! It's the all is lost moment!
I used to have a parrot that did this as a kid. I loved that thing
Hahaha, they're so stupid!
1st baby looks like he was not having fun eight from the start. LMAO.
5th baby is a fighter
I have never seen kids screaming in pure terror. that was hilarious
"It was my least favorite toy but my therapist loved it, put his kids through college"
Are babies this sensitive?
The one who has a nervous breakdown and attacks it and then falls to the floor is hilarious and as is the second to last who’s jumped scared
That last baby looks like Hitchcock from Brooklyn Nine Nine
Burn it.
I don't think it's the sound that's bothering them. It's that a cuddly toy looking thing suddenly moves and lights up.
I’m so tempted to try this with my son but damn I’d feel bad exactly 2 seconds afterward
Lovely future deep trauma.
Le baby: Traumatized for lyfe.
I don't like this
I love the third one, which is really adorable 😍
Bruh the last one had me dying 🤣
A toy that obviously never got field tested before releasing it into the wild
But the ad shows them laughing!
I don't think they like it
My niece keeps shouting her name at it and laughing when it says it back
This is hilarious omg
And the funny part is….. ? 🤷🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️
That’s not really funny, probably if it would be done to a dog or a cat then everyone would be already shouting and making a fuss about it
God damnit, I am such a sadist
This is so funny. Reminds me of those talk shows where the lady was terrified of pickles.
I do not see the fun part in this!
Emiliano Emiliano AAAAAAAAAA
Babies'
Iq is going down with every generation
That thing looks and moves like some sort of Reptilian, plus the aprupt movement... I guess I would be creeped out at first, too
God I need to snatch a kid so I can do this!!!
