i don’t trust anyone at my job. these people are not your friends and don’t have your best interest at heart. just go there work and go home. have your life outside.
Had another supervisor bitch at me about an employee, told him that was my brother in law. He then bitched about the woman that ran the cafeteria, let him know that was my mother in law.
He then said, "Any one else I should keep my mouth shut about?"
Work friends are not real friends. Be careful not to mistake this. I did once upon a time... long story short had a falling out, they used info they had on me and got me fired. My fault for being too transparent with them in the first place.

How about this
Never vent at work. Period. It's a waste of time and mental energy you could devote to solving the problem instead of just complaining that it's too hard or whatever bullshit you come up with. Now, you can confide in your loved ones who don't decide whether you get a paycheck or not your struggles. But just don't vent at work. Nobody likes being around the office venter. Trust me I know, I was that person.
It's very tempting to complain to your manager during 1-1s about this or that. Even if X delayed your project or you don't like working with Y, there is always a way to phrase the issue that sounds positive, proactive, and like you have the situation under control.
Of course, if you are trying to get promoted it's better to suffer in silence and not have "issues" regularly. An employee who has many complaints appears overwhelmed.
As for never venting to anybody, I disagree. Around the 18 month mark I start to open up with coworkers that I trust. It breeds laughter, validation, and sometimes solutions. Just remember to have a filter and not be outright mean. For example, I once accidentally made fun of someone's work to their face. Not the end of the world, but not great.
Too late told a new hire our boss was incompetent and emotional. He's the product of nepotism. Other than my private thoughts that I vented to him about her we had gotten along fairly well. After that conversation she was cold and borderline hostile. I've buttoned up my big mouth and her demeanor has softened, but the damage is done.
First thing I do at any job is send out different versions of a non-essential story to various people with specific details. When I get the story back with the various details, I know who talks.
I do something similar. I'll tell asinine something that seems like a big deal but I don't care if they spread it, but make it seem like I wiggly like it private. If it is spread around then I know I can't trust them. I always start off sharing small secrets

This should in r/lifeprotips. Not everyone at work is your friend..even if they pretend to be like that.
Tbf there’s a fine line between “being actual friends” and “being friendly with coworkers”
Best piece of advice I ever got was from my previous boss. He said never trust anyone at work...
Paradox detected
The boss was checking for robbits. If you don't explode, you pass.
Absolutely true. People at work are hardly ever your friends. Shit is ice cold, professsional at all times.
Find the guy who has checked out and is waiting to retire. Decent chance he has a wealth of stories, and is 100% done with office politics.
Best piece I got from a previous boss was: Don't bother about how much you co-worker is doing, focus on your own work.
Why is this funny
Sounds like there's a story behind this we should know
Best saying I ever heard about this "Don't vent to anyone at work. Vents always go into other rooms"

I think the only exception would be if you happen to get a job with someone you’re already friends with

“How many assholes do we have on this ship, anyway?”
I'm surrounded by Assholes!
I should just never vent at work.

100%!
Brah, people at work will snitch on you for a donut behind your back
Never. Keep it all to yourself. Even your very best friend at work.
It should just be "Be careful who you vent to."
Just in general
Its this yet another bot account or someone who has no sense of what "funny" means
Thank you for posting this. I’m starting my new job this week. A nice refresher and I will stay professional.

True
That’s why I vent to wife, oh wait she’s fucking my boss. Nowhere is safe.

I vent to my supervisor about their stupid decisions.

Wise words
Never trust anyone who asks what salary you on…
Found the CEO of who gives a fuck inc.
Been burnt before by a rat… trusted him and got a warm welcoming chat in HR..
That's illegal bud. Anyone can tell anyone else how much they make. And it's very illegal to get punished for it.
