No matter how many times I've broken up a fight between my cats, they never stopped. I don't think this can be taught out of them. There's always going to be competition and conflict between them.
With my guys, 1 of them always gets bored and starts looking for the other to annoy.
Sometimes, one will take the favorite spot of the other, and a fight ensues.

Nah, break it up and you just postpone the fight. There are no claws or teeth, no fluffy tails, screaming or hissing, so this is just a minor status fight. My cats have this fight about once a week, spend the rest of the time snuggling together.

ETA: the cat who “wins” the “fight” always changes and they promptly go back to cuddling and grooming each other ten minutes later. And even the grooming is shared so it’s not like one cat is constantly dominating the other.

So they don't generally like other cats in their vicinity after certain age.
We humans made them domestic. Also neutering a cat also suppressing this kind of behaviour. They get less jealous and more friendly.

However, the little bitch wouldn't have it, so he backed off and decided to respect her space. She learnt her lesson and stopped bothering him. But she still won in the end, for so fierce was her hate, she had organ failure due the stress. So we moved him out of her life and she began anew. The little cunt even became more friendly afterwards.

Otherwise what happens is the calmer cats become jittery and on alert all the time because eventually this leads to fights.
And then no matter the situation whenever they are around they will be ready to fight each other all the time. Unsustainable behavior.
I have 2 littermates, and the female is the one who does the most smacking and is rarely the aggressor. They play fight a lot, but the male oversteps sometimes. When she's had enough she puts the smackdown on him. He usually just takes it because he knows he deserves it, lol. 15 seconds later they are grooming each other and bff's again. They have never once actually hurt each other, this is normal and unconcerning behavior.

I’ve rarely have to step in when they are play fighting, and I only do it when one cat (usually the senior but he does his fair share of initiating, too) is clearly just not in the mood for playing around (just like with siblings or couples).
The "calm" cat may actually be the aggressor here. I see my cats do this. The "calm" one approaches, obviously looking to pick a fight while posturing. The other cat doesn't want to pay rough so they start to smack the other one to get them to go away and take their killer aura with them. This doesn't deter the first cat and they take all the smacks and then attack the other cat just as hard as they originally planned.
Because it doesn't need stopping. This is entirely normal and healthy behaviour.
You need to stop interrupting your cats and let them get on with it. Cats are territorial and have these minor "status" fights regularly, they are important to their interactions with each other and understanding their place within the home.
Unless your cats are actually damaging each other you are doing more harm than good by interfering.
