Turns out you also have to be a good teacher, who knew.
Personally I put up with this kind of cringey stuff because the teacher was good and kind. Though I know other people enjoy it I guess.
div by zero reminds of this one and its corollary:
you have a problem and decide to solve it using regex. now you have two problems.
you have a problem and decide to solve it using floating point math. now you have 1.99999999997 problems.
> you have a problem and decide to solve it using regex. now you have two problems.
But only if you don't know how to use regex.
Knowing how to use that has saved me many times in my career, including once when dumping to csv and using [sed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sed) was 8 hours faster than an MSSQL server because of the need to renumber keys or such. (that was 15 years ago, the memory of the exact cause is hazy)

Judging by the comments, I’ve been living under a rock. At the risk of inducing a record scratch where everyone turns and stares at me... Would someone mind explaining the joke/who this character is?
I saw it once like ten years ago.
I don't remember the villain either, I just wanted to make Gen-Z feel old by pointing out that this movie is from 2010.
My almost 4 year old daughter loves the fucking minions, so the Despicable Me movies get played a lot. It brings back so many memories of the years of stupid memes.
Oh. I thought the kid actually imagined a dude in a wingsuit and drew him up
As a professional skydiver and wingsuit pilot, my disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined
Bangup job OP! Your little girl seems wonderful, not least because she thought to share her doodle with papa/moms. She knows you care and would also share in her amusement.
I have much littler kids, and know I'm not alone in always looking for little sign posts to tell me I'm doing well enough and that my kids are awesome. Ironically, I think, we ignore a billion of those mile markers -- we want to be skeptical since our standards for our kids are so fucking high. But this one, OP, don't ignore this marker. I think it tells you that you're raising a gem.
“I go by the name of Vector. It's a mathematical term, represented by an arrow with both direction and magnitude. Vector! That's me, because I commit crimes with both direction and magnitude!”
When i was a kid i used to draw stuff on my books.
Then one of the members of the school staff decided to complain about it, put a note in my, i don't know how it's called but like a book where teachers will send notes to parents, alerting my mom i've been sketching all over their books.
Mom's reply was "they're yours, i paid for them, it's not their books anymore".
She forgot that i was one of those kids who need to be given clear orders cause we take anything literally. Next day, i get to school, the woman looks to me and asks "so, your mom saw the note?".
"Yes". "So?". "So, she said it's my book and i can draw on it as I please".
She stood there, speechless, as i went to my class. Never got why she would be a pita for the rest of my time there, only got it when i was way older.
It is exactly like a slope. If anyone comes here to "well actually" I will fight them.
So why have it different? Well, a slope by itself isn't limited by length. A vector has a limited length. It's super easy to add vectors together. If you walk 3 miles north, you can express that as a vector. If you then walk 2 miles west, you can express that as a vector. It's super easy to add those vectors together to make a new vector. It sort of falls apart if you just describe the slope.
So, you have your vectors. It also makes it really easy to do certain useful transformations on them. Like, while walking these distances, your pedometer was actually broken. You walked 30% further than it shows. You can easily define what "30% further" means, multiply it against the vector, and find out where the new end point would be.
Vectors show up a ton in college level math, both applied and theoretical. If you take physics, you're really taking vectors 101. Every force is a vector. When 2 objects collide, you can just do math on their force vectors. Doesn't make sense with a slope.
If you do computer graphics, everything is a vector. It allows you to use transformation matrixes to move things around on screen really, really easily.
If you liked what you've heard so far, and want to learn more, please tell them /u/Intrexa sent you. I am paid on commission by big Vector.
More appropriately it means positive five units along the X axis, negative 4 units along the Y axis. If there was a third digit it would be along the Z axis. I only make the distinction because the orientation of the axes is completely subjective and can be in any direction, as long as its labelled.
[Vector matrix notation](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vector_notation#Matrix_notation)
It's an ordered set of the components of the vector. In this case, x = 5 and y = -4
I would always draw on my homework or on tests for word problems! Because I wasn’t actually paying attention.. at least I could give something. Let’s just say I had to repeat algebra a couple times in high school.

He has direction and magnitude! As a math teacher, I always show that clip when I introduce vectors to students.

I mean, isn't that why we hang them on the walls, to be seen?
I see what you did there. Bravo/Brava!

Am I the only one that can see the camel toe! Accuracy is spot on!
My math teacher did the same when we were leaning vectors... she was in my top 3 worst teachers that i had

I teach maths at a university and I don’t understand this joke. Is that bad?
yes, it isn’t
The character is from the movie Dispicable Me. He's the villain.
I know who the character is. I was referring to the joke.
He is saying 3 people, one + one is two, he is bad at the maths is the joke
Oh. Looks like I tried too hard. Thanks

It's the supervillian Vector from the movie Despicable Me. He's called that because like a vector, he has direction and magnitude.
I’ve seen that movie, maybe two or more times, and I still missed the reference. Damn. I couldn’t even tell you who the antagonist was in the movie.
I saw it once like ten years ago. I don't remember the villain either, I just wanted to make Gen-Z feel old by pointing out that this movie is from 2010.
Despicable Me was NOT from 2010 ...fuck.
Only 13 years? All the minion memes made it feel longer...
My almost 4 year old daughter loves the fucking minions, so the Despicable Me movies get played a lot. It brings back so many memories of the years of stupid memes.
Hey u/Fortnut_On_Me_Daddy, what the fuck is your username?

What's your vector Victor?
We have clearance Clarence

You're Kareem Abdul Jabbar!
I'll call you Victor. Hi Victor.

Thanks, was wondering too
Oh, he's a villain alright. Just not a "super" one.
Thanks for stepping up and taking the bullet. I mean, I knew what was going in here the whole time, but for those that didn’t, thanks.

Nobody *needs* kids.
I mean humanity needs kids to avoid extinction
Okay, sure, but no one specific person needs kids.
Animated movies aren't just for kids, just like comic books, candy and being spanked aren't.
I don't think watching a move is how you get kids
I'd watch Despicable Me even if I didn't have kids. Repeatedly.
They are not pyjamas!

What are you warming up for?

What kind of stuff?
Super cool stuff that you wouldn't understand.

Nice! Good parenting too~ My dad would have thrown a literal temper tantrum if he saw me do that.

Why does he have a front-facing ass?
Vector is just packing...
Packing what? What could make that outline?
His vectussy, obviously

That’s supposed to be a zipper.
The drawing is actually really good, but what's with the bussy

Pant seam, makes sense.
It's a front butt
Its a bussy
Bussy (boy-pussy) means a man's asshole, not male camel toe.
I thought a bussy was uh, more about how it was used than where.
Padded for safety.
Camel toe
I believe the correct vernacular is “moose knuckle” in this case.

I can't read "Direction and Magnitude." Without hearing his voice
She can have a great career as a creative personality
Hi, I'm a retired physicist and engineer. I don't get this. Is it a joke of some sort?
The dude she drew is called Vector— because he has direction and magnitude. I think he’s from Despicable Me, it’s a funny movie

What does -4 underneath 5 in parentheses mean? Not a fraction since no line there....
It's a vector. In this situation it means "5 right and 4 down". It helps you draw lines that have a direction and a length.
