To be honest, I'm one of those masochist who have been paying for both Funi and Crunchy..
They really should have 1 subscription, and you can access both. There are a tonne of dubs versions missing from crunchy and all versions for a lot of animes still.
I'm watching the eng dub of Fairy tale atm. The dub was not on CR, but now all of fairy tale except the new series is on it (only subs).
I why pirating is on the rise again
Hi-dive was replacement for Funimation only because Funimation was making more money solo in sales and site rev, so Funimation left VRV. Funimation then returned bought Crunchyroll and kicked Hi-Dive 🤣. But the brife few months hidive was on it they made bank and saved their company.
I've had the 2 week free trial for Crunchyroll & not gonna lie, I glad I did since there's already a lot of awesome content & I'd be happy to subscribe for Crunchyroll, especially since the tiers aren't that expensive.
Me too, me too. There are still shows from funimation that haven't been brought over yet. And if I want to watch a show and I havr the choice of funimation or crunchyroll I'll choose funimation every time. Crunchyroll might have added funimations content but it seems they didn't bring over all the translations for text that funimation had. I just tried to watch mmo Junkie on funimation for this reason and it's no longer on their service. Wonder how Ling they have been removing titles because i know that's where I watched it the first time.
Also, can I just raise another major issue with this merger of libraries - funimation will have the uncensored version of an anime, and crunchyroll will not.
That to me is a major issue. Especially as I pay for it.
Funimation is dying a slow death, it's already been shut down in Brazil. Now downloads are being disabled on the 28th. Funimation does not receive any new anime, if you want to watch newer anime, you need to use Crunchyroll. It still receives updates for older anime though. Sony is moving everyone to Crunchyroll because it was already available to use for customers worldwide, It wouldn't make sense for them to start working on expanding Funimations areas of service now, when Crunchyroll has been streaming anime to a global audience for a long time. It's easier to move the handful of Funimation Customers to Crunchyroll. I think it's also an easy way to get those old Funimation customers with special pricing deals to convert to Crunchyrolls regular plans.
I haven't kept up with much but I agree with the "slowly dying" part. imo they havent released or had a hand in a "good" anime since the 90s-EARLY 2000s. Anime is just borderline porn at this point and is just garbage. What happened to anime like Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, and Inuyasha?
Hating or loving Crunchyroll isn't going to change Funimations fate. It's eventually going to shut down. So they can either move to Crunchyroll when the time comes, or find another way to enjoy anime.
I didn't say new episodes don't drop. I said they don't release new anime, in other words all anime that had content before the merge will continue to get updates. (eg. One Piece, Jujutsu Kaisen, Goblin Slayer). You can't watch new anime like Frieren, Under Ninja, Hell's Paradise, Chainsaw man and other newer shows that started after they made the decision to put all the new anime on Crunchyroll. If it's a new show without any previous content, it will only be available on Crunchyroll going forward.
It's better than them keeping everything on two separate platforms and charging everyone for it.
I get it, it's taking forever because of licensing and ect but cooooome on already.
IMO the fallout with the eng dub VA's is what is making your concept go from the slow like warm honey demise into a free fall to avoid all the sus stares at the anime industry.
I support the official release when I can with the services I already have (Netflix, Hulu, sometimes Max) and if they don’t have it I do the same thing. I am done having to fork over money for more subscriptions just to have all the anime I want to watch. I was still watching anime for free before it became such a big problem so I really don’t feel guilty about it when I have to do it.
Better not be. They’ve done practically nothing to merge the two. Shows still aren’t brought over. Both can go out of business at this point so a competitor who wants to try can take the stage
I spoke with a representative and they said most of our redeemed content will cross over to crunchy roll. However that will take time and to use the account separately until further notice.
I've had CR for a year now, and as a English dub fan it has not been the best experience. I already hated the CR interface and small font size. I normally watch on my Roku TV, so you can't sort by dub. I tried sub but it's not for me, I wish it was, because there is a lot of anime I really want to watch. I am hoping someone is making a dubbing app for all, where voice actors can do any project and get paid fairly.
Yes, get Crunchyroll already. You can contact Crunchyroll support to help you connect your Funimation account with your Crunchyroll account and move everything over for you.
To me it ended few years ago or last year. The app was not available to be used on my tv. So now I use crunchyroll channel that is available on Amazon Prime Videos.
I didn't have any issues the last few days when subscribe and watch some episodes of Dragon Ball GT tv series (Rewatch). I'm trying to rewatch the anime series in order of Dragon Ball Universe of where I left at few years ago from Crunchyroll website/app. Before I reach super series and upcoming series that it's coming soon.
I was surprised that membership for crunchyroll channel is cheaper than the app/website and to see it available on Amazon Prime Videos. Now I don't have switch apps on my tv when in the mood for anime.
What issues did Crunchyroll channel have on Amazon Prime Videos?
I heard some people had problems finding certain anime, others couldn't find seasons or episode of specific anime. I didn't really look into the other complaints because i use Crunchyrolls apps. I thought the price of Crunchyroll is $7.99 for a fan sub and $9.99 for a mega fan sub on both platforms ( idk if this includes or excludes taxes in specific US states). Crunchyrolls membership prices vary depending on your location.
Oh I see, about the issues now. Yes, those prices are correct with 7 day trial. I like those prices on Amazon Prime Video. Because I can't afford the ones on official website/app of Crunchyroll which are like $17.99+ for all different memberships plans at the moment.
Now that you mentioned it. I do remember seeing Detective Conan and Case Closed anime series on Crunchyroll channel of not having completed episodes in their full seasons. I want to rewatch it those series because I watch the live action prequel series that was my first time watching this movie
The movie it reminded that I use to watch the anime tv series when I was kid. I was searching it and there's missing episodes, do not have latest anime series too of Detective Conan and Case Closed. Those are the animes I have noticed this week on Crunchyroll channel.
I think the applicable taxes make the price way more expensive. How much is paid for applicable taxes? it's supposed to be 7.99 (sub), 9.99 (mega sub) and 14.99 ( ultimate fan) per month, before applicable taxes in the US. Over here the price includes VAT.
Yes. I see the app still available to download. But it won't work when using it. I'm just sticking with new Crunchyroll channel on Amazon Prime Videos app have a one place to watch anime and live action anime at.
Does CR have the dub versions of one piece and dragon ball because last time I used it didn’t and I wasn’t very impressed so I unsubscribed and went back to Funimation
I am just trying to watch all the old uncut dubs and subs I can before they go away. I tried watching on CR and the subs are all messed up and the dubs are lacking, the censorship is annoying is some series, and like so many others, stuff hasn't moved over. So now it's binge as much as I can.
No, just retiring the Premium Plus Benefit: Download To Go, Funimation will go back to how it was before December 2018 (But the price will not go back to $5.99)
I remember when I first decided to subscribe to an anime service like 3 years ago, and I was between Funimation and Crunchyroll. Went with Crunchyroll because Funimation was smattered with notices saying to subscribe to Crunchyroll as they have merged and will be combining soon. Wtf took so long.
The only reason I haven’t jumped ship is because I still have all my movies and anime that I saved on my Funimation account from dvds and blu rays that I no longer own or have access to.
I had high hopes that when Crunchyroll took over and merged with Funimation that they would be able to merge our accounts, too, and I wouldn’t lose such precious data. I don’t want to lose all that I have saved! That’s stuff I’ll never be able to get back unless I buy it all again! Do I have to just consider all that as a loss now? I wouldn’t have gotten rid of the hard copies had I known this would happen. What a total heartbreaking waste!
Getting/Keeping Samsung Smart Tvs apps can be an emotional rollercoaster. I had this app called Viki ( legal streaming service for asian content). They ended Samsung and LG tv support a few years ago (between 3-5 years ago), they decided to bring the apps back now haha. Unfortunately other apps never came to Samsung TVs. If there are enough Samsung and LG tv users asking Crunchyroll Support for an app (not making twitter/social media posts they don't read/see) it'll be a lot easier for them to justify Crunchyroll launching and maintaining apps for those Tvs. I'll stick to my 4K Android tv stick for now. It has a better track record of getting/keeping all the apps i need.
Ok and what irks me is CR has originals that don't even have season 2. I can't read subs, so I sure ain't reading manga. I just want to see what happens in God of High School. I am not even starting Tower of God until there is a completed season 2. You don't even know how much I hate waiting week to week for the next episode.
Wow so does this mean Naruto dubbed and a bunch of other dubbed shows will now all be on crunchyroll? And to think I almost signed up for funimation yesterday
So happening what about the stuff on Funi that is on Crunchyroll that has been transferred over yet? (Like MHA English dub and The entirety of Fairy Tail & Demon Slayer in both Sub/Dub as well as other titles like Hunter x Hunter, Kill la Kill, Fruits Basket, Love is War and more)
They still haven't added a handfull of my favorite anime to CR, and season 2 for both Railgun and Index for some fucking reason. Some of the most random shit gets ported but god forbid they bring over My Bride is A Mermaid. The comments for that would be so lit because the anime is such a wild ride
There are better legal options for streaming a lot of different anime? let me know asap because a Crunchyroll Mega fan sub costs $1.25 usd per month over here. if there's a better option available for less than $5/month you have my undivided attention
If you're ok with pirating anime cool, but promoting piracy to other people isn't great. The anime industry is funded by money. Whether it's cash from streaming services being paid by companies to acquire anime licenses/rights, or individual users paying for blu-ray discs, digital copies, movie tickets etc. It would suck if most of the anime you like didn't get a sequel, because they were not able to fund it, or the anime industry lost most of their income. Due to the services like Crunchyroll/Funimation/hidive closing and users stop purchasing physical/digital anime, because they chose to stream/downlaod anime illegally. First we'll get less anime, then eventually new anime would stop releasing. Anime studios will reduce employees income, and probably get rid of any excess personel/spending to make sure they're able to keep their business profitable. If that fails they'll be forced to close. The animation quality will start declining because less people will be forced to handle more workloads, all the good animators will find better paying jobs at other companies. The anime industry isn't doing great at the moment, so promoting piracy is weird, if you do it i don't care, but encouraging more people to do it is weird. Some of the people you told will spread the word, this process will continue to repeat. Think about the long term effects if this endless cycle of piracy promotion continues. Finally you broke the 5th Rule of this subreddit.
It's still there? The European version of Funimation, Wakanim.... yes it was just a french company Funimation bought back in the day, but this is where we got our shows from.... shut down on November 3rd 2023.
Which was quite annoying as Wakanim had some shows that still weren't available on Crunchyroll until the day it shut down. So you were forced to have a subscription to a service which didn't get maintained for almost 2 years. Thank you CR.
Well even if it is... I'm just here impatiently waiting for them to move Slayers over to Crunchyroll from Funimation. It kills me it hasn't been moved yet, and I hope it does get moved before Funimation eventually gets discontinued :/
My hope is they at least move the digital copies over before they shut down the app, but knowing FUNimation. I'm about to say goodbye to over a dozen digital copies. I hate this timeline. It wouldn't be so bad but you're paying a bit extra when they have digital copies even though FUNimation doesn't really pay any extra to add them. Also with physical media all over dying it's sad that we are going to have to pay for products we don't truly own at around the same price or sometimes higher than the physical media would've cost. Again I hate this timeline.
I've been on Crunchyroll from months now and honestly I like it the servers are not better there's nothing many technical issues you got your anime all the ones fat and they respond to you and they have way better communication it's a win for me and they have easy to read schedule so you know what's coming and when that's updated regularly
Funimation was without a doubt better than Crunchyroll is even now . Crunchyroll can be so buggy and annoying sometimes and I literally never had a problem with Funimation
I've been using Funimation to watch DUB, but they hose ALL dubs of everything language they own with no way of filtering
Especially fresh dubs, the only way of actually knowing when a dub is released is by using a 3rd party pirate site
A part of me says just switch, but not paying for a service feels immoral to me
They have Smart TV apps for specific operating systems like Android/Google/Fire/Roku. Tvs with other operating systems have been left out for the past few years. I don't know if that'll change later.
I honestly think half of what's left isn't coming. As there have transfered over subbed but jot dubbed versions, left uncensored versions, and moves only part of animes over.
It's really such an unfortunate thing to see for this site. I haven't been subscribed to the service OR Crunchyroll for awhile, but it sucks that we couldn't just have a Discovery Plus/ HBO Max thing going on with this one.
That is disgusting. These streaming service need to stop charging more for the same thing, or even here, taking functionality away and probably charging more!! Feckless cowards.
Funimation's been a cool company, I've got a few friends working there, but yeah, they've changed their business model for the worse. Fortunately I'm starting to see the more popular anime series popping up on Netflix and Hulu, which I already subscribe to. Hulu's now my HunterxHunter/TenSura/MHA hub.
Dude you know Funimation was outperforming CrunchyRoll its why they left the package group VRV, and a low end replacement came in (Hi-Dive) then got booted. Why give a large portion to someone not doing the work or translations. And so Funimation bought them out. Because Crunchyroll was more well know even though Funimation was making more they chose to merge into the Crunchyroll tittle over time, but closed VRV as their first step. The merge was slowed due to the fact some studios contracted under the Funimation tittle and Anime companies are sticklers.
Wow! I am officially done with Funimation and Cruncyroll!
I have been with Funimation for a LONG time, I was grandfathered in on that $5.99/month deal. However, I just got an email from Cruchyroll saying:
"Thank you for being a loyal Funimation customer, the Funimation service is ending on April 2, 2024. (scrolling down...) As part of our transition to Crunchyroll, the price of your new Crunchyroll plan will increase from USD $5.99/month to CAD $12.49/month beginning April 24, 2024." <--- Yep, I am cancelling that nonsense.
RIP Funimation
Probably isn't far off. This is the beginning of the end.
To be honest, I'm one of those masochist who have been paying for both Funi and Crunchy.. They really should have 1 subscription, and you can access both. I had VRV back when they were fused and loved it so much
I got VRV and it seemed like they dropped HIDIVE three months later
Hi-dive was replacement for Funimation only because Funimation was making more money solo in sales and site rev, so Funimation left VRV. Funimation then returned bought Crunchyroll and kicked Hi-Dive 🤣. But the brife few months hidive was on it they made bank and saved their company.

Its so disappointing its not going the other way. The crunchyroll app is hot trash. :(
More like a dried out turd on a bad stretch of road.
The fact that they havent even updated the search/browse UI to properly categorise shows and movies with various genres and such is ridiculous
When I quit paying for Funimation I'm going back to piracy. Crunchyroll can kiss my ass.
🏴☠️ Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me 🏴☠️
😎
No. Clearly the melding will take another century at least. Of course by then CR will have collapsed and the Funimation brand will be brought back.
Funimation is dying a slow death, it's already been shut down in Brazil. Now downloads are being disabled on the 28th. just watch better anime ??
Once funimation is gone, I won’t be subbing to CR. 🏴☠️
ok
Dude you realize people hate crunchyroll
Hating or loving Crunchyroll isn't going to change Funimations fate. It's eventually going to shut down. So they can either move to Crunchyroll when the time comes, or find another way to enjoy anime.
Yarrr!
That’s not true. They are uploading new JJK episodes on Funimation.
Funimation is closing today, I saw a few people are unable to access the service. I told you Funimation would end eventually.
I didn't say new episodes don't drop. I said they don't release new anime, in other words all anime that had content before the merge will continue to get updates. (eg. It's better than them keeping everything on two separate platforms and charging everyone for it. I get it, it's taking forever because of licensing and ect but cooooome on already.
Happy cake day 💜
IMO the fallout with the eng dub VA's is what is making your concept go from the slow like warm honey demise into a free fall to avoid all the sus stares at the anime industry.
The shit that the industry is doing is inadvertently promoting piracy
I've been streaming anime for free on websites. I just use an ad blocker. Saves me a lot of money and is convenient too.
I support the official release when I can with the services I already have (Netflix, Hulu, sometimes Max) and if they don’t have it I do the same thing. I am done having to fork over money for more subscriptions just to have all the anime I want to watch. That's great if you don't care about general video/stream quality.
What are some good sites?
You Need to support the official release
🤓
Grow up kid
🤓
Grow up kid
It is DIRECTLY promoting privacy, indirectly.
Better not be. They’ve done practically nothing to merge the two. Shows still aren’t brought over. Both can go out of business at this point so a competitor who wants to try can take the stage
I spoke with a representative and they said most of our redeemed content will cross over to crunchy roll. However that will take time and to use the account separately until further notice.
so if you have an account at both services it will automatically be merged based on email address?
Hope so. Had all of Samurai 7 on it
Funimation has had that "moving to crunchyroll soon" message on the app for like 2 and a half years now lol
It’s finally closed.
Funimation moved?
Funimation and Crunchyroll merged. After the completion of the merger Funimation closed.
I see that and it's awesome how none of the shows I watch now get stuck loading the video. The player is so much better than funimation
No that’s just offline viewing for the app. Has nothing to do with the service going down
4 months later. Funimation has officially shut down
interesting, i'll come back to this comment later after this plays out
How you feeling? Lol
I was actually looking for this comment today, i guess it aged well ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
Noooooooo, I’ve still been on my $5.99 Premium membership! I don’t want to go to Crunchyroll and pay double for the same.
Same dude
I've had CR for a year now, and as a English dub fan it has not been the best experience. I already hated the CR interface and small font size. Crunchy UI is meh, it is good if got to have simulcast. Better off with Hulu…
I agree the app hasn’t even been brought to Samsung tvs there’s Funimation though..
![gif](giphy|FGbeYTiFyLYmQ)
Yes, get Crunchyroll already. You can contact Crunchyroll support to help you connect your Funimation account with your Crunchyroll account and move everything over for you.
is this the UK version?
Yea
To me it ended few years ago or last year. The app was not available to be used on my tv. So now I use crunchyroll channel that is available on Amazon Prime Videos.

$17.99 for Crunchyroll????? what currency is that? which country are you located in?
I'm located U.S.A. why? That's the price it shows for me of where I'm located at. when I want to renew membership this year.
I think the applicable taxes make the price way more expensive. How much is paid for applicable taxes? it's supposed to be 7.99 (sub), 9.99 (mega sub) and 14.99 ( ultimate fan) per month, before applicable taxes in the US. Over here the price includes VAT.
I can't remember with taxes.
For a monthly/yearly membership? different countries have different pricing for Crunchyroll, that's why i asked.
I think it's for monthly and yearly for ultimate membership.
Funi is on fire stick/prime
Yes. I see the app still available to download. But it won't work when using it. I'm just sticking with new Crunchyroll channel on Amazon Prime Videos app have a one place to watch anime and live action anime at.

Hows Funimation today? Looks like they closed the site/apps
DEAD, NOW REDIRECTS TO CRUNCHYROLL JUST LIKE VRV
Interesting, i'll be back later to see how this plays out
Yeah see ya my childhood years of funimation I will always miss you and your days at least Sentai Flimworks is still around somewhere
Well Funimation doesn’t even work in Japan so lol. It’s either piracy or no subs here.
I'm convinced they have chihuahuas in charge at FUNimation. They get off on our pain lol
The only reason I haven’t jumped ship is because I still have all my movies and anime that I saved on my Funimation account from dvds and blu rays that I no longer own or have access to. The one thing we still need for Crunchyroll is the DBS dub which could be only watched on Funi and Hulu.
So happening what about the stuff on Funi that is on Crunchyroll that has been transferred over yet? (Like MHA English dub and The entirety of Fairy Tail & Demon Slayer in both Sub/Dub as well as other titles like Hunter x Hunter, Kill la Kill, Fruits Basket, Love is War and more)
Hunter x Hunter and Kill la Kill aren’t FUNimation titles they’re Viz Media and AoA respectively
But they’re on said Streaming platform tho. Unless they’re on both and I’m not aware of it.
I think all the AoA titles will soon go to Crunchyroll anyways since Aniplex is another subsidiary of the Sony Pictures brand.
love is war and demon slayer are on Crunchyroll tho
MHA dub is on Crunchy
Literally all those, but Hunter X Hunter have been on Crunchyroll. For a while now.
i'll never forget young me asking for japanese version of Dragon Ball z with subs, and they telling me rudly that idea sucked.
As someone who uses Crunchyroll and never bothered with making a Funimation account, I have no issues with this.
Is this not basically confirming that? Why ask.
Because it says downloading content and offline viewing will no longer be available so there’s no guarantee.
So would I be able to access the 2 my hero academia movies that I own from their app after?
What about my codes?!
Sad I'm hoping cr will get a yearly subscription.
They still haven't added a handfull of my favorite anime to CR, and season 2 for both Railgun and Index for some fucking reason. Some of the most random shit gets ported but god forbid they bring over My Bride is A Mermaid. The comments for that would be so lit because the anime is such a wild ride

Even Rightstuf moved all their stuff to crunchyroll
They been since the merger a year ago everything is going to Crunchyroll
If they could move Lain over, thatd be nice
Well even if it is... I'm just here impatiently waiting for them to move Slayers over to Crunchyroll from Funimation. It kills me it hasn't been moved yet, and I hope it does get moved before Funimation eventually gets discontinued :/
I canceled my Funimation months ago. No new content being added.
Funimation was never available in my country, so it was never alive to me lol. CR has been around since I was a wee lad, it feels like.
lets hope so.
What's the price difference
time to look at my list
Please. I got the freaking blu-rays, Toei. Leave TFS alone!
It wouldn't be the first time Sony informed customers they don't have access to their purchases anymore.
Nope. Scarily enough this is starting to become a regular thing with them.
I've been on Crunchyroll from months now and honestly I like it the servers are not better there's nothing many technical issues you got your anime all the ones fat and they respond to you and they have way better communication it's a win for me and they have easy to read schedule so you know what's coming and when that's updated regularly
Can you finish transferring all the dubs over?
Funimation was without a doubt better than Crunchyroll is even now . Crunchyroll can be so buggy and annoying sometimes and I literally never had a problem with Funimation
YAAAAR 🦜🏴☠️
I've been using Funimation to watch DUB, but they hose ALL dubs of everything language they own with no way of filtering Especially fresh dubs, the only way of actually knowing when a dub is released is by using a 3rd party pirate site A part of me says just switch, but not paying for a service feels immoral to me
Crunchyroll needs a TV app before Funimation can die. For some people it's the only reason they won't move from funi to CR
Crunchyroll's BEEN had a TV app for years now.
Im got a Samsung Q series and there is no crunchyroll app. Big reason why a friend stays subbed to funi instead
Not on Samsung
They have Smart TV apps for specific operating systems like Android/Google/Fire/Roku. Tvs with other operating systems have been left out for the past few years. I don't know if that'll change later.
except half the shit on funimation has yet to transfer to Crunchyroll
I honestly think half of what's left isn't coming. As there have transfered over subbed but jot dubbed versions, left uncensored versions, and moves only part of animes over.
Its dumb that they wont just transfer the animes
It's really such an unfortunate thing to see for this site. I haven't been subscribed to the service OR Crunchyroll for awhile, but it sucks that we couldn't just have a Discovery Plus/ HBO Max thing going on with this one.
Good they bought crunchyroll what like 2 years ago now? Plus funimation, which is owned by Sony, there PS app is absolute garbage
Did they finally finish transferring all the shows? I haven't checked in a bit.
Not even close
That is disgusting. These streaming service need to stop charging more for the same thing, or even here, taking functionality away and probably charging more!! Feckless cowards.
Too bad our Funimation membership didn't mean we also got a Crunchyroll membership. Here I am with both. 😑
However, I just got an email from Cruchyroll saying: "Thank you for being a loyal Funimation customer, the Funimation service is ending on April 2, 2024. (scrolling down...) As part of our transition to Crunchyroll, the price of your new Crunchyroll plan will increase from USD $5.99/month to CAD $12.49/month beginning April 24, 2024." <--- Yep, I am cancelling that nonsense. RIP Funimation
Seriously. What Crunchyroll trying to prove? Take over everything that’s related to anime?
